Temporary solution for IE user til this FFXI hacking crisis is solved

I know, but some people have their own liking. Is like people like PS3 and dislike XBOX360, and Some like XBOX360 and dislike PS3

I'm just helping people that don't like firefox and like to use IE instead and feel secured at the same time while using it

Just to quote the first one who said something intelligent in this thread but there are some more...
Damn yes, i'm not a noob with computer, i am a system admin, and a programmer, and i know how to behave to reduce (not eliminate) the risk of an infection/exploitation thru IE.
IE is actually the best browser around, the reason is... ActiveX, one can do almost anything with just IE... sadly at same time IE is the worst browser around,.... the reason is.... ActiveX.... it allow one TO DO TOO MUCH. damages included.

The solution is NOT to tell people to not use IE, but to give advice telling them how to reduce the risks.

There are lot of other browsers... but people keep up with Firefox because it's trendy, not safe... as it's trendy to go against Microsoft in general.
An open source product like fryfox is open to anyone to look into the code to find bugs/exploit, and yes, they have behind a whole community ready to solve the problem and patch it.... after a poor soul had his computer/data fried... and reported it... IN THE VERY SAME way as IE is vulnerable and MS releases security updates.
IE has security/privacy/settings masks that can restrict almost any feature, and IE will be limited as Firefox, and dangerous as notepad.
Solution is not Firefox... it's a reliable, updated set of antivirus/spyware/trojankiller, and KNOWLEDGE.

I can't even honestly recall the last time I've seen a legitimate use for activex controls, to be honest. A handful of korean MMOs use them to launch their games, and that's about it. I'd hardly call that a defining reason for IE superiority, since the majority of its use is to exploit. In my honest opinion, firefox's extensions are a far more compelling reason than that.

IE is also the least compatible regarding web standards when compared with other browsers. It's just a shame that Firefox and Opera's "security through obscurity" are starting to fade, though.

Except Microsoft has been known to be significantly slower about patching things up. Yeah, someone's always going to get messed up before a fix can be made, unless (you'd have to get lucky) someone with benevolent intentions finds it first.

This much I do agree with though, nothing alone will stop this sort of thing from happening, only being cautious, keeping software up to date and in check, and thinking about what you're doing before you do it will truly make a big difference. I have an extremely hard time saying IE is "better" in any way though.

Everybody should stop using IE and switch to Lynx.
