Due to the continuous earthquakes occurring in the eastern regions of Japan since Mar. 11, 2011, the power companies in Japan have encouraged everyone to cooperate by conserving as much energy as possible as it is feared there will not be enough power supply. Based on the current situation, we have decided to shut down the game servers temporarily, and therefore to suspend services of FINAL FANTASY XIV, FINAL FANTASY XI, and PlayOnline temporarily.

The services will be temporarily suspended for at least a week starting on Mar. 13, 2011 3:00 (PDT). We will provide an update regarding the reinstatement of the service as additional information becomes available. In connection with the temporary suspension of services, players will not be billed for any PlayOnline service throughout the April billing cycle. Additional information regarding this matter will also be posted as it becomes available.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and thank you for your understanding of this unusual situations.

[Date & Time]
A week starting from Mar. 13, 2011 3:00 (PDT)

* Please be advised that we will continue to operate the official websites, FINAL FANTASY XIV Lodestone, forums, and the SQUARE ENIX Support Center to be able provide our customers with updates on the current situation.

An excerpt from the Caution posted on
TOKYO ELECTRIC POWER COMPANY (TEPCO)’s home page:

A big earthquake occurred in the northern part of Japan at 2:46PM of March 11th 2011. Because TEPCO's facilities have been seriously damaged, power shortage may occur.
TEPCO appreciates customers' cooperation in reducing electricity usage by avoiding using unnecessary lighting and electrical equipment.
We are taking all measures to restore power, however, we expect extremely challenging situation in power supply for a while. We kindly ask our customers to cooperate with us in reducing usage of power.

Go figure this would happen durin' Spring Break.

Having lived through a natural disaster, i care more about the missing people.

Me too as well; if you can guys, I'd suggest donating April's fees to the Red Cross or something like that because we can't help directly.

As for me, I'm glad I got Secret of Mana for my Ipod Touch; I'll proly be playing that a lot this week.

Already put in my name to volunteer to deploy for relief efforts.

Man, this blows. Being logged in made me feel safe. I don't know what to do now D:

Misi is prolly right. They prolly didn't want to do it, but they had to because of the power situation. In the meantime if people just want to talk; I'm usually hanging on IRC. Best place to look (I am sure most of you don't like Pretty Cure and stuff like that) is on irc.esper.net channel #ffradio. Be nice to Tebian if you do that ok? (He runs FF Radio if you didn't guess from the channel name)

Not happy because I really wanted to do some FFXI today, but I completely understand. I also want to donate my monthly fee and will do so next check (Kinda broke atm...)

Wow what kind of selfish bastard would bitch about this?

My heart goes out to those affected by the earthquake, especially those killed/injured and those who are still missing.
Ya as far as power usage in a crisis like this, game servers are not a priority. wonder if they ever found backup power for that nuclear plant =x

^^b, guess no FFXI or assault static for me this week, but Ill be fine after Tuesday, when the Dissidia012 prologus/demo comes out...it'll give me something to do til servers come back up =P

I was very surprised we were able to log on the day it happened.

Like many others I'm more concerted about all the damage and loss of life than playing FFXI. I'll find awhy to help or something and I hope the death toll doesn't go too high :(

just read this, ""Tokyo Electric says the outages will last until the end of April (Kyodo News)"" going to be May till SE is back online.. and I too would Pay April fees for knowning there goingt o red cross or some relief funds.

it would be nice tho if they dedicated all of their GMs to testing since they are still going to be paid neways and came back with the game completely updated and 99 cap done... Ah i can dream

I'm donating my fees (and a little more since I can afford it to Red Cross Canada).

You can never go wrong with donating to the Red Cross.

My thoughts are with the people of Japan. I wish my WHM existed in RL and I can go help them.

DONATE so says the lord and master!
(do it for the school girls)
