Terrible performance with top end gfx card?

I'm running Intel i7 920 (Quad core)
3 ghz
6gb DDR3 ram or something of that nature
64 bit OS
GTX295 gfx card (~1gb VRAM), dual gpu even!

I'm getting < 15 FPS in town, or by the camp. I'm -currently- getting 22 fps steady staring at a rock wall w/ next to no one near me.

Anyone else having this problem? This is pretty unacceptable.

Do you have Ambient Occulsion turned on?
If so, turn that off. Even the current generation high end cards simply can't handle it properly.
If you don't have it turned on, mind sharing which other settings you're running the game with?
And as far as towns and other crowded places go, get used to massive loss of framerate there, no matter how good your card is.

And you're saying dual GPU, you know that only works when you run the game full screen right?
If you're playing windowed it will only use the power of one of the chips.

Even with AO off, it runs like shit

Fullscreen or windowed.

1680 x 1050

Tried all manner of AA options

Have you tried updating your graphics drivers?

Win7/Vista 64-bit
http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7-winvista-64bit-260.63-beta-driver.html

Win7/Vista 32-bit
http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7-winvista-32bit-260.63-beta-driver.html

WinXP
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp-260.63-beta-driver.html

I run these (W7 x64) and they perform slightly better then the previous.
I have a GTX 470 and my game runs at 40~60 FPS on 1920*1080 full screen, 8xAA, High settings, AO off, DoF on.
In crowded areas however my framerate also drops to 15~20.

rest of my specs:
AMD Phenom II X4 945 (3.0 Ghz)
6 GB DDR3 1600Mhz
W7Pro 64Bit

Other then that, yes FF14 is a game that can bring even a high end system to its knees.

The beta driver won't do much for me, those improvements are ONLY on the 400 series. I'm pretty sure people running with lower grade cards surely can't be getting 60 fps where I get 20.

Oops, missed that part.
Even so the full screen surprises me, in (true) full screen your card should be outperforming mine, regardless of driver version.
But even if you're not running full screen, getting ~40 FPS in non crowded areas should not be impossible.
Unless you also max out everything else like shadows, weather effects and the like of course.

That said, I do stick to my point of device drivers usually being one of the causes for lack of performance.

Make sure you turn depth of field off too. I run the 460 card with an i5 chip quad and I constantly get over 40fps most times I'm damn near 50. If I'm in not crowded areas I get near 60. This has to be a settings issue for you svina. Keep messing with it to find a happy medium. I'm running my game windowed btw and getting those results on 1650 resolution.

its probably a settign you have or something. I'd recommend runnign a benchmark program to see if you're getting bottlenecked somewhere.

I have an i7 930, 6 GB RAM, Windows 7 64x and 5870. I have everything on max settings (except for Ambient Occlusion, that halves my FPS), and I get 60 FPS everywhere except for towns, where I seem to be capped at 30 - even though I probably could run it higher than 30 FPS since neither my graphic card nor CPU are at max in towns.

I run at 1080p resolution btw.

If I were to make a guess, I'd say the problem lies with your CPU. With a I7 930, it runs at 60c at 100% load with Corsair H70 Hydro Cooler.. Download Real Temp and see what yours give. If it caps out a 100c at 75% load or less, you'd need to upgrade your fans and CPU cooler.

Your problem is most likely a SLI problem. Your card is a dual-GPU card and you still have to enable SLI to get that working right. Run a program that will show your FPS while you are playing and monitor both GPU usage. I assume that one will be fairly high (70+% usage) and one will be hovering around 0% most of the time). My card is a dual-GPU ATI card and I was only getting 40~ FPS until I got the Crossfire working and now I'm almost always at 60.

Download a program like Riva Tuner or MSI Afterburner (MSI card not required to use this)

You have to remember that FFXIV still isn't fully optimized for SLI or Crossfire, though, even though it still works a bit better than with 1 card.

Still, he should be able to run it and still get more then 15 FPS even if only one card was active, though.

Yeah, that generally is the case with single GPU cards, but many dual-GPU cards have issues scaling with just one card and actually see far worse performance than the equivalent of a non-dual GPU card of the same power as one of the GPUs. That is one of the many problems of dual GPU cards, the worst of which in my opinion is microslutter. Fortunately, I haven't seen any issues with microslutter in FFXIV, even with all settings at highest and AO turned on.

Well, I did see SLI fixes out there, but I don't have two cards. According to the EVGA Precision tool, GPU #2 was running about 80% load, GPU #1 only 10-20% usually.

Any idea how to tune this?

I know you don't have 2 cards, you have 2 GPUs in one card. You still need SLI to be working properly for that application to get both GPUs actually working together. I haven't used Nvidia in awhile, but if I recall you can force SLI profiles to applications, that should get it to work. You may need to use fullscreen to get it working, not sure on that and SLI.

Even fullscreen only has one GPU running it looks like.

I am having the same problems. I am running at 1920x1080 with everything at lowest settings or turned off.

i7 870 3.0 ghtz
8 gig ddr3 1600
2x HD 5750 cards crossfire

I have seen other systems running the game better with lower end hardware.

I tried this:

http://www.ffxivcore.com/topic/10596-nvidia-sli-fix-25896-drivers/

Now both GPUs are capped out, getting much better framerate in game at all areas, not a TON better but still significant. Avg about 20-30 fps near the camp and 50+ fps in open areas.

Now the new problem is I'm getting some bad stutter as both my GPU temperatures are hitting 100-110 >_<...I think all I need is another fan to help with that, that's definitely pretty hot though.

So i downloaded real temp. my processor was running close to 100 celsius. I think thats a little high.

Disregard question.
