First this test havent done by me but i think its good idea to let other ppl and drk know how to use this new toy

link

First of all the information I have is limited.

Facts:

1) Fact: You take away the same amount of TP you absorb. Proved by letting a lesser colibri hit me. 6 tp a hit. After a number of round I did the following. I would let it hit me and the sleep it, then repeat. Then I would absorb its tp.

1 hit, 6p
2 hit, 12 tp
3 hit, 18 tp
4 hit, 24 tp
5 hit, 30 tp
6 hit, 36 tp
7 hit, ---40 tp instead of 42
7 hit, ---36 tp instead of 44 tp

From this information I would make a good guess that the amount absorbed = the amount of the mobs tp until 36 tp (this amount may be effected by INT, Dark Skill, I was wearing 2 parts of DRK JSE and have 290 Dark Skill), after the mob hits 36 tp the amount absorbed is random percentage left.

2) Fact: absorbing a mob with 0 tp results in 0 tp return.

3) Fact: I used absorb tp on a 100% tp bird.
With Dark Seal: 49% tp return
Wihtout Dark Seal: 59%

Conclusion, Dark Seal only effect if it lands or not, not the random percentage past 36.

4 ) Fact: The highest absorb-TP I have gotten was 102 (happened on lightning's day) from the Decimation WS NM.

5 ) Fact: Timer is reduced by haste.

6 ) Fact: The spell can be outright resisted.

7 ) Fact: Hard cap is NOT 100% tp drain.

8 ) Fact: Walls in lebros cavern assault have tp to absorb .

9 ) Fact: You do not always absorb all the mob's TP. Please refer to the numbers from fact 1.

Speculation:
1) Speculation: The higher the mobs TP the more tp you will get.

2) Speculation: Bursting will increase you percentage past 36.

3) Speculation: Amount drained is effected by weather, and day.

4) Speculation: Amount drained with Dark Staff will increase your returns.

5) Speculation: You can self SC using absorb only.

Please, lets keep this thread from being another OMFG its overpowered! Lets try and get the specifics on how optimize the spell use. Thanks.

Lol, but still be completely useless

One test doesn't make this fact. Something tells me Dark Seal does increase the amount you drain, just like Dark Seal/Elemental Seal increases the amount of HP and MP drained through Aspir and Drain, and his without Dark Seal drain was just flat out luck, or the Dark Seal drain was flat out unlucky.

Speculation: This DRK is a tool for not trying Dark Seal more than once.

"Increases the accuracy of your next Dark Magic spell"

that what it say under the help bar .. i guess it lower the resist rate of dark magic with mob that have crazy resist to dark magic like demons , eye

but i donk know if it give you more HP/MP back tho

Accuracy is just accuracy Skaw. Just like a RDM, it does not matter how powerful your spells are, if you do not hit with them. If Dark Seal says it just increases accuracy, then it just increases accuracy, not the power of the spell. If you want to raise the power of this spell, which ALL DRKs do, get some INT rings and some other INT gear and macro it in when you use it.

Elemental Seal only says it increases the accuracy of your next spell, it says nothing about increasing the amount of hp/mp drained with drain/aspir, but it still does. Without Elemental seal, I can aspir maybe 10-20 mp, with elemental seal I've hit as high as 70 mp; but then my blm is subbed and my dark magic skill is really gimped.

I think, atleast, accuracy helps prevent resists and partial resists. Thats the reason why it can be more, its not that it makes it stronger, It just makes it a direct hit.

That's because Aspir and Drain have many partial resist rates, doesn't work exactly like elemental spells. So by increasing the accuracy of the spell, it also increases the chance that it will drain for the highest possible. Just like by using Elemental Seal, it increases the chance that your next elemental spell will hit for max damage.

Elemental Seal itself doesn't really increase the damage of either, just raises the accuracy.

To explain it better:

Let's say Blizzard IV to 1000 damage max.
1/2 resist would be 500, 1/4 resist would be 250.
With elemental seal, it increases the accuracy, thus raising the chance it will hit for 1000 damage.

On Drain, let's say the max is 400. And since Drain is rather odd, it seems like it'll just randomly drain between 100 to 400, depending on resist rates etc. And the higher magic accuracy, the greater is the chance it'll drain for 400. So with Elemental Seal, it further increases the chance that the spell will reach its cap.

Aspir and Drain aren't outright resisted unless the mob has a magic shield. So if your spell is resisted you'll only drain for a small amount (3-15 or so, from my experience). Elemental seal makes it nearly impossible for a spell to be resisted, which is why it made your spells absorb more.

Uzor beat me to it, and explained in better detail too. ;;

I think INT and Dark Magic Skill affects how much it drains, as Grayswander always macro in Dark Magic Skill and INT equip on his Absorb TP's, and drains upwards of 88% TP (atleast that's his highest I believe)

Would be similar to Drain and Aspir then.

I'm pretty sure ES+Drain/Aspir just gives you an average drain or aspir. I've found if I use it on the same type mobs while in an exp parties (1-2 level variation), I almost always aspir the same amount. Now trying to aspir the same mob twice is difficult since it's a 10 min recast on ES, but given that the mobs are of the same type and approximate same level, I can assume it to be true. I think dark magic based spells are somewhat random and work on a bell curve type scenario. If you use ES, you'd hit the average or mean value, but without it, you can vary anywhere along the curve. I've never known myself to use ES+aspir and get a maximum value which should be the scenario if what you all say was true. I've always known my dark spells to vary and I always seem to get the highest values without ES. In fact, I have never recieved a high aspir or drain with ES. Although to be honest, I rarely use ES+dark magic spells in an exp party (it's very much a waste of ES), but I do use it when I decide to use BLM while farming.

Only thing i have read that can resist a ele seal+ elemental enfeeble and such are the prime avatars mostly when the spell is their element, often when the spell is "neutral" to the avatars element, and rarely when the spell is strong against the avatar.

Its a bit off topic but I think it sorta fits in there, but yes ele seal is powerful unless your a blm in besieged=P

Regardless of Elemental/Dark Seal functionality posts, claiming Dark Seal doesn't affect it because of one test is pretty untester like.

And really, did you have to nitpick so much? Increased Magic Accuracy will increase how much you'll drain. To a point, that is. I never said it raises the max amount.

I never use ES on drain or aspir because I can't tell that it makes a difference. I kill thunder elementals in gusgen sometimes when mining, and instead of sitting to get my mp back, I'll aspir worms on the 2nd lvl. I've tested it over and over. Aspir will get me usually around 100, sometimes as low as 60 or as much as 150. The only thing I have ever noticed having an effect is if used on a MB.

It's hard to test drain because it always just fills up my meager HP pool. 323 is the most I've ever drained for, and it was sans MB/ES.

I've never tested this on anything that rates better than too weak.

edit: My Dark magic is capped

Drain is a pain it's VERY random even when unresisted it seems. I get bored in some PT's and Convert, ES, Chainspell, Drain-spam.
First one hits up to 200, rest go between 20-150, pretty fun to blow a LOT of MP but possibly do some nice dmg if you get lucky.

1) Speculation: The higher the mobs TP the more tp you will get. True

2) Speculation: Bursting will increase you percentage past 36. False. It appears you cannot burst it.

3) Speculation: Amount drained is effected by weather, and day. False. Even Darkday seemed to have no effect. Monsters' natural weaknesses and strengths tend to play a more vital role. (Ants v Crab v Crawler)

4) Speculation: Amount drained with Dark Staff will increase your returns. Irrelevant. Unless used strictly to debuff the mob's TP pool, having TP on a Staff is next to useless. (However, untested)

5) Speculation: You can self SC using absorb only. True. Though Rare as fuck.

Above are observations from a level 50's DRK.

I've seen good DRKs out TP SAMs and RNGs with that spell alone. Personally I feel that it should have a 3 min timer on it just like Meditate and Barrage do.

Lol, probably more random for you because you're a Rdm (don't think you get a high rating on dark magic).

We hae a d skill in dark magic i think like divine magic....

Or was it F on each? they are both on the same rating
