Thank-You feature added

There is now a Thanks! button to the left of the Quote button (for most users). It's a new feature that will allow you to thank others for their post without to actually make a "Thanks!" post. It will also accumulate some stats as to how many thanks you have given and received.

I don't quite understand why you implemented this. What is the upside to it? Is there a way to search for posts that have between 5-10 thank you's and 20-40 thank you's? I just hate to see every post here turn into a "rate me up if you like it" post like over at Alla.

just a nice way of showing poeple that the appriciate things done for them & whatnot. whats wrong with that?

That I will give you a rate up for errr .... Thanks I guess?

Look at the thread by Mornlithe in Good Times forum. After every single post I gotta read that Mornlithe thanks them for saying grats. It's nice when people post a thank you in a thread, but that's just 1 post. Not an individual box under each post they choose to click Thank You to.

It's one thing to say thanks, but all I see this as is spam. IF there is an option to not have to see the Thank You boxes, than I wouldn't have a problem with it.

I believe that since this is a new feature some users are going wild using it. In time the novelty will wear off and people will thank others for truly useful posts.

Thank-You spammers can be dealt with on an individual basis, feel free to point them out to me and I will look into it as we currently do not have mods.

This difference between this and alla's rating system is that you can't rate one down, and your user title doesn't change based on rating, so in comparison there is no true incentive to rate people up unless they actually post something useful.

Should this feature turn out to be a bad idea overall, I do have the option to remove it at any time.

Is there a "Congratulations" version of "Thankyou" button?

Yeah we should just replace thanks with congrats in the good times board.

another pointless feature on forums that most of us will just ignore.

EDIT: SEMI pointless

i been thanked once but how do i know who thanked me?

I would like to see a rate down feature as well personally. Or just a repuation feature all together. Of course it would have limits so that somene who got mad over some small arguement doesn't go and give someone -8million rep. But it would be nice to see what the rest of qcdn thinks of people. You could argue that the rate up does this but not everyone will get rate ups, and some might get it for the wrong reasons or even have friends (sockpuppets?) rate them up to make themselves look better. While many people who post on the board who don't especially get commended for it may be grouped together with the "trouble makers" of qcdn.

Idk maybe i'm just looking too much into this system and its just supposed to be a nice way of saying "hey i liked your post" but with the whole keeping track of it, i can fast see competition sprouting up.

Isn't that the principle of even posting, to congratulate the person? You need to press a button for that now too? Maybe you fail to see the point of this, but that wouldn't allow the original poster to thank everyone...............Because god forbid he has to describe how thankfull he is to everyone, oh wait - he can just press a button for that. Although I'm positive if someone is really gracious, rather than pressing the button they could make a post to say thank you.

There was already a system similar to this "Thank you" addition. However, the old system allowed people to leave negative comments and build a negative reputation, it seems this one only allows positive.

I just don't see why this was implimented. If someone is truely gracious, don't they usually post to say thanks? Maybe it will 'clean up one sentence posts', but there are many more distastefull posts.

In my opinion, a feature like this is quite useless. Based upon replies to the users original post, don't they already know how others think of that post? By posting an enlightening guide about a new quest, does that really heed a thank you from everyone? Imho, the original poster would know that this information is valuable and would also know that most people who use the guide would be gracious.

Now, I'll get to the point.

A positive post is now subjected to a thank you.

What is a negative post subjected to? Negative posts.

Understand?

Ok, more clearly this time.

This thank you system allows for less positive posts, replaced by a simple 'thank you'. In result, I can see a higher rate of negative posts - because there is no option to replace those with a simple 'I do not agree'.

And with the recent departure of the Flame board......Where will these negative post go? Mixed in with the rest.

For those who read that, thank you ;)

Is it possible to get the feature turned off in User Profile? All these 'Thank Yous' in the middle of a thread are kinda distracting. Plus you're going to get people thanking each other for the stupidest things.... I'd rather just be oblivious to the entire thing. (Appreciate you trying to find a way to encourage 'good' posters though)

Maybe make it so that people that don't want to see them, can filter/turn them off?

What they said. Its just adding extra clutter to my forum viewing.

I dig what you're saying dowzer but it's equally possible to acknowledge someone for respectfully disagreeing with you. Personally i find the system a bit onesided also, but i only figure after the hype dies down the thank you button will get used as either a sign of respect for a decent conversation or a tip of the hat on some info or something ... iono, i would just hope that the scenario of people trolling everywhere doesn't come to pass.

I think the Thank You feature will just become another Popularity contest where the "happy go lucky" social shells thank all their LS Members for any stupid thing they post.

No no, thank you for writing it, no really, thanks! ;)

Yeah Dowzer, I see your point, and I do believe this is an angle that I didn't consider prior to adding this feature. As always, it's easier to add something and see it in action, than to make a post about how I would add something to get some feedback before I would actually add it.

I will give this a little more thought, but I think I may just remove the thank-you thing again later on tonight.

But what will happen with negative feedback? It will be posted. It is not equally possible to acknowledge someone for respectfully disagreeing with you. There is no button to respectfully disagree.

Once they hype dies down, sure it could be used as a sign of respect. But can't that same sign of respect be posted instead of a button? Isn't that more courteous?

Do you understand my concept? It is my assumption that this system will lower the amount of courteous posters - to press a button instead. This will in turn do nothing in regards of lowering the negative post count, people will post to address their negative comments - instead of saving space and pressing a button.

IMO this system is very backwards and one sided.

Nevermind what Decidence says, of course this will turn into a popularity contest. It -already- has.

I'm more concerned about what happens with all the negative vibes. Shouldn't they be addressed with this system instead? Wouldn't that lower the amount of negative clutter? What the hell was the point of removing the flame board, if shit like this will continue to spew.

Sure, this is great news for the happy happy joy joy 14yr old posters.

But what has been done to conflict negative posting? Nothing. Infact nothing+1. Removing the flameboard would be the +1. Why? Because where will these negative vibes flow? That's right, straight into general discussion.

Am I going to be a broken record player in this thread, or what?
