My morning commute on school days is usually hell. Driving from York to Harrisburg at 7:30AM is no fun at all. So the last thing I need in the morning is a trucker who doesn't see the NO TRUCKS LEFT LANE sign on the long steep hill that he won't be able to go more than 30MPH over. Hell, PennDOT was even nice enough to include a 3rd lane for vehicles that can't keep speed on that hill and of course, not one person is using it. Seeing as the backup is only about 7 cars long I decide I'm going to use the provided lane to pass them. Of course as my luck would dictate as soon as I'm in front of the traffic I see the cop hiding inside the little clearing on the side of the road.

About now I'm going 85-90MPH. I made eye contact with the trooper when I passed him, and i'm waiting for the inevitable. He pulls out and moves into the left lane behind the traffic. Completely ignores me and pro0bably pulled over the offending trucker up the road a bit.

But that's not all, when I get to Harrisburg I pull into a convience store to get my caffeine fix. I park in the far parking spots because the ones right at the store are open. But some asshole in a Prius parks in the handicap parking spot, right next to another state trooper, because hes too lazy to walk an extra 30 feet. Of course he gets nailed by the Trooper, and of course he argues there were no more parking spaces (I guess those 4 boxes on either side of my car are not really parking spaces then :o) But he gets the $200 fine and I get a good laugh at the expense of someone with terrible taste in cars.

From what I can tell PA State Troopers don't care what you do as long as your not being an asshole about it.

Several things I've done seen by state troopers but not been cited for.
Speeding
Sleeping in a parking lot in my car
Sleeping on the side of the turnpike in my car
Setting off rather illegal fireworks (not on a holiday just a Friday)
Tailgating
Curfew

Things I've seen people do and be pulled over for
Holding up traffic by riding the left lane
25 in a 55
95 in a 55
Blocking intersections
Cutting me off at a toll plaza
Not clearing ice off their vehicle
Stopping at the very beginning of a 1/3 mile long on ramp

In addition I've called them for 2 DUI drivers and they showed up within 10 minutes both time

I was on my way to Hershey Park with a bunch of friends. We needed to piss, so we hit a CVS. They refused to let us use their bathrooms. Hence, my friends Ben, Drew and I pissed on the side of that CVS. I finished and got out of there, Ben and Drew took their sweet time. Ben and Drew received citations from the Pennsylvania State Police for indecent exposure lol probably because right next to where we pissed was a hair salon and the windows faced right at us. I still feel we did the right thing. :awesome:

I can't stand it when people park in the handicapped spots and they don't have the tags. I'm glad he cited that guy.

I dislike when they have the tags or placard, speed into the spot almost running me down, hook the placard on their mirror, get out of the car without a chair or crutch or cane, boop-beep the cheap alarm, and walk into the discount megastore they've just parked in front of.

I think most cops should act like PB mentioned; don't cite someone needlessly, especially if they're not endangering themselves or others. If you speed but aren't weaving in and out of traffic, so be it. If you illegally park in a handicap spot (ever, but especially when others are open), get your ass handed to you, etc.

It's rare that the system always works, but it's nice to see government officials being true professionals.

Kudos.

LOL PBP wish cops were like that here in El Paso Tx. oh well LOL.

its not the state troopers you have to worry about, its the county/local cops that are dick! I know the stretch of road you are talking about... 83 north to HBG yes? I used to drive it all the time when I worked in that area. Isn't the speed limit only 55 in that section? haha

Edit: Tristam, my mom has one of those handicap things for her rear view mirror. At first glance she may not look handicapped, but she has spinal fusions, herniated disks, neuropathy, and monoclonal gammopothy... plus asthma. She's a walking disaster, but she looks ok lol.

So, just because a person doesn't necessarily LOOK like they don't need the tag, that generally is unlikely.

Thanks for sharing the cool story.

Ignorance on my side:... Is sleeping in your car illegal / cit-able? O_o

Some people I work with (for some reason) don't like being seen while sleeping so they avoid the lounge and sleep in their cars when they decide to. Just wondering...

Its illegal to sleep on public property (ie the side of a road) its called vagrancy, and in parking lots if the property owners do not want you sleeping there in that case its called trespassing.
