For some reason, I usually end up in lower leveling areas doing stuff, like Qufim or the dunes. Anyway, I'm one of those people who helps another person out if they need it. Like if I see a train of gobs chasing someone, I kill as many as I can, and save their life (and EXP). I do this out of all the kindness I have. I could just run by and let them die. My problem with it is, all I want is a little recognition. I don't want them going around "/sh SWISHIEE IS MY HERO!". All I want is just a simple <Thank you>. I rarely ever get this. It's for times like this, I want to stop helping people, for the fact that they didn't appreciate my help.

Another thing is, I'm tired of people asking for help, and nobody helps out. This game makes you rely on other players to get through it. You shouldn't have to pay for help. I help people out all the time, if I'm able, and not busy. I don't expect any payment at all. It's annoying knowing that most of the population either wants money or a favor in return (ie: Oh, you're going to do a quest in Quicksand Caves. I need to do one there too. Let's do mine first so I can ditch you when we go to do yours). If I were to ask of a favor, it'd be this one thing: Help somoene else out for free. Don't ask for payment or a favor in return. Just go out, and help someone.

Now, I hope that some of you read this, and do some of what I'm saying. I'm not saying that you have to, but it'd be a lot nicer to have a community that actually helps out.

/comfort.

I know how you feel. If you ever have anything you need help with, that I could possible help with, send me a tell. If I'm free, I'll be there as fast as the airship takes me.

I love to help people out in game, and I feel TERRIBLE asking for something that I can't repay. (Like the Ninja that helped me get Rank 5, I'm still guilty that I can't do something to help him.)

/befriend "Yomiku" ^^

Nobody has ever regreted it ^.~

I'm always helping people but it's rare when I get help (Took me 2 months to do Genkai 1... oh yeah... LONG time cuz no one would help me ><)
It gets frustrating, but there's not much you can do... :/

I love helping people out. I've helped a few players kill the Rank 3 dragon while I'm farming in Gid, I've saved countless numbers of people from Gobs while hunting mary in the highlands. Someone attacked a light elemental in Qufim once and called for help - I ran in, Summons blazing and died a horrible death but it was worth it and my HP wasn't too far away. I'm actually looking foreward to getting Raise as my WHM because i feel so horrible running by little bodies on my way to various cities.

But I know how you feel...I don't believe in charging for help, after all it is a community based game! People should be more polite though and when they do get help say <Thank You> It goes a long way to making someones day.

Man.. if any higher lvl than me comes by and helps me or my party when we need it I am always grateful. Any person that actually helps/saves me and my party gets at very least one "Thank You".

I do RAoC's alot. (Random Acts of Curing) and whenever someone doesn't say Thank You, i put them on my Little Notebook next to my Monitor. Then they get cut off.

I feel the same. all i want is a Thank You. i'm not asking for help and get embarrased when they /kneel and such. But not even thanking someone ... that's low.

I am amazed at the attitudes of some people that play this game. Courtesy isn't dead, but I think I saw it in a Bastokian ditch coughing up blood.

A couple parties ago in the Dunes (disasterous party, but that's another story), a particularly bad set of circumstances caused a call to Zone. In quick fashion we're all on our way back to Selbina with goblin, leeches, and a bogy in tow. HP was getting used up rapidly along the way.

As we're nearing town, a couple of high levels ask if we need help, to which I respond {yes, please}. In sort order the leeches and bogy are being dealt with. Since we're in disarray, the party zones to get rid of the Goblin. No one dies, but it's close.

Back in Selbina, I look through the log, get the names of the two players, and send them a {Thank you}. I then tell the party the names of the two players that helped us out, and that it'd be nice to shoot them a thank you.

Most everyone is quiet. The leader responds something to the effect of "Why? We were in trouble, that's what they should have done."

I put up a lame protest, but in the end left the party, and logged feeling rather crummy. I realize that FFXI is just a game, but it's hard (for me at least) to brush off interactions like the one above, and not have a dimmer view of my fellow NA's.
(and unfortunately, this isn't kind of attitude doesn't seem particularly rare)

I really agree with your sentiments. The help that I can provide is pretty minimal, but I do what I can. Not only does it distance me from the kind of folks I described above, but it actually makes the game more fun (go figure).

Last night I was in a 50+ party in the Nest looking for elementals to kill. We were just at the end of the cave leading to the big room where you start to find soldiers etc. The party next to us was low 40's. They were still getting occasionally killed by flies.
Well, the party pulled a fly link, so we pulled the linked fly off and took it out for them, They'd have DEFINITELY been toast otherwise. No thanks, nothing. I'd have at LEAST done a /wave.

Ya thank yous are very nice to get, but it really doesnt bother me most of the time, usually I'll get more bothered if someone doesnt say thank you for a raise, but even then I dont spend much time worrying about it.

But what bugs me are the people who yell at you for helping out. One time in E. Sar a long time ago I was just healing random people and all of the sudden I get a tell, "Stop following me around" I then say that I've been standing near the gate and healing people who arent at full HP. I then get the response "Bullshit"

So after that I didnt heal that guy even when I saw him resting. But anyways back to the topic, ya thank yous are great, but not necessary a lot of the time.

Maybe he was undead.

Swish, that was a really nice post. I'm feel the same way. I don't mind going out of my way to help someone, wish more people would do it.

It doesn't have to be about "how much XP will I gain tonight?" or "how much gil will I make tonight"? -- there's more to the game than earning gil and raising XP. The best times I have are when I'm in parties with cool people doing missions or quests on which we really aren't gonna make any XP and probably not a lot of gil either -- but we'll have fun.

It feels great to help someone out whether they say thanks or not. It does surprise me sometimes that people don't say it though. I don't mind people not saying anything if I throw them a cure or protect or something...but when you have obviously kept them from dying you'd think they'd say SOMETHING? I was leveling my blm in W. Sara this morning. I am level 8 blm/4 whm. A level 7 blm with no subjob took on a crawler and finally defeated it. She didn't have much heal left so I went to throw her a cure. She had just started to kneel. She then got up and ran off a bit. Then just stood there. Since she ran out of range while I was trying to cure her she didn't get the cure...I did target her again though and noticed her health was going down further. I run over and heal her...only had enough for two cures as I'd been fighting just prior. After I emptied my mp I kneeled..keeping an eye on her HP. (Damn cralwer poison lasts a long time! lol) Stood up again and cured her to full again. Finally it wore off and she was able to kneel. At one point I sent her a tell asking if she was poisoned and she never responded. Finally as I ran off getting ready to log out I got a /tell from her saying "tanks". My guess is she was Japanese. Anyhow...long story short...even if she hadn't responded at all...just knowing I'd helped someone got my day off to a great start!

awwww Thanks girlie! I really miss getting together with you...I love getting together with friends to work on quests or missions...it's a lot more fun than just grinding thru levels. Kico is doing well....he will probably never come back to the game. In fact he pretty much hates it because he sees it as some sort of competition for him...lol So I *try* to find a balance...easier sometimes than others!

I think the Dunes is getting more plagued with rudeness or something.
I was in the dunes one day, with my NIN(so i wasn't high enough level to solo anything) and i am waiting for LS members to come so we can party, and this group next to me pulled an IT sheep and then called for help shortly after, i didn't check there HP, and they were still fighting it, so i run up and Provoke it, and what do they do? Disengage and rest, i was like, umm...aren't you going to help? and they didn't say anything, the WHM, RDM, and BLM never sent a Cure my way, so i basically commited suicide, thinking they were going to help. So i die, and you'd think(or at least, what i would of done) was send a /tell {I'm sorry}, but nope...i just thought it was riduculous that they disengaged after i voked it...

Seriously you are all going to have to stop the pleasantries here. This board is for complaining and telling people to go to hell.
