I miss the good ol' days...

The days of Mario and Sonic battling to the death. I miss Knuckles vs. Luigi. I miss "Blast Processing" vs. the "millions of on-screen colors." I miss MIDIs and sprites. I miss Laser Scopes and 32xs. I miss the days when you would go and rent a video game and play someone else's game-save file. I miss the days when I could actually throw my controller across the room, unhooking if from the base-unit in the process, because I was obviously cheated by the game and not having to worry about if the controller would still work when I plugged it back in. I miss the trick of being able to yank the cartridges out and then put them back in "just right" or with that "magic touch" and getting them to work properly. Things used to be so much more enjoyable and simple.

Remember when arcades were everywhere and the games only cost a single quarter? Remember the first time you beat Bowser and were able to see the Princess for the first time? Remember the first time you got to use real NFL plays and teams in John Madden football? Remember the first time you used ZELDA as the file name and found yourself in a very confusing, yet familiar world? Remember the first time you went spinning around those loops in Sonic and you had no idea where the hell you were gonna end up but you know you were gonna have a blast getting there? Remember when there was no such a word as fanboy and that you played every single game you could get your hands on, regardless of the system/controller and you tried your hardest to beat the game, no matter how much it sucked?

Good times. Good times.

Word.

I hear ya. Those were the days of gaming I grew up on. I still remember how overjoyed I got when I beat Mario for the first time. I remember how excited I was when I pulled off a fatality for the first time in the orginial mortal combat after I figured out those, at one time, very confusing button combinations. I remember playing super off-road with my cousin for so long that the game started itself over even though I still had all the upgrades. I remember unlocking super sonic for the first time and having 2x the fun going 2x the speed and somehow still manage to die from some crushing spikes. I still remember the days when bowser was called king koopa. I remember when all i had to do was blow on the game when it didn't work and all of a sudden it worked perfectly. Eh I know this rant is similar to what you did but you made many good points and I just wanted to add to it.

Miss those good ol days.

Oh man...good ol' Mortal Kombat. I remember when the pizza hut just down from my house got that game. Me and my friends must've easily blown $200 in quarters playing that game for hours on end. I know there was one day I spent $15 just on myself. Man those were the days.

Heh I remember the first time I loaded up Mario Brothers. I had finally saved up enough money to buy a NES. I played that damn game with hardly any breaks. That is when I coined the phrase Nintendo Thumb, which I use regaurdless of the system I play on. I had played so long and hard that some of the black of the D-pad had transfered to my thumb and my thumb was sore to the touch. That didn't keep me from playing though.

SMB1 to this day still has my favorite easter egg of any game. The famous, or infamous, Lost World. It's also the first game that I was able to discover a cheat on. If I remember correctly, if you held A & Select and pressed Start you could continue the game even once you used up all your lives. But my favorite all time memory of this game, albeit slightly embarrassing, is that my mom was the first person in our household to finish the game. Granted I was 5 years old, it was still a GIRL that beat it before me or my dad. LOL Crazy that those NES cartridges cost upwards of $70 from 1984-86.

hopefully this thing doubles as numchucks for the next ninja turtles release

I remember discovering the 100 lives trick in the first mario. Just hop on the turtle shell against the steps at the end of stage 3-1 and if timed right, you set there and watched to 1-ups fly as he keeps jumping on the shell.

I don't think I ever actually discovered an easter egg by myself. I did once find a Glitch in Super Mario 64, ad I have been able to recreate it time and time again.

After you get all 120 stars, you gain the ability to fly around outside the castle. if you climb to the upper most point, then take off with a triple jump, then turn around in mid air and aim yourself at the steeple right above the stained glass princess, you will go thru the wall.

When you go thru it, you will hit a boundry and fall down into the inside of the castle.

The glitch is that you are inside the castle, but the outside is still loaded. If you open the door, it loads the inside and puts you outside. Very strange. Poor mario was doomed to live out the rest of his days in a small square that is an unloaded area.

damn your just necroing everything huh?
tho it is funny to look back at this and see how everyones attitudes and opinions have changed

I'm locking all these necro'd threads. Shin, let this be a lesson.

If anyone has something relevant to post on these topics (read: not necro'ing them for BS reasons) then let me know with a PM. Otherwise, no more thread necro'ing.
