Where you parents think you have an addiction to gaming...

Well, a short simple story of my current life in the past few days...

I get back from camp and what not, "Ahhh so glad to be home". I walk into my room. My power chords are gone, ether net and router is gone...I go ask my dear mom "Why?". Says that I will never move out if I have access to gaming...I laugh at her and whip out my senior year story. I started 12th grade with a 1.86 and graduated with a 2.4. That isn't easy to pull off in a year, not to mention I made up an entire semester of American History in 2 weeks because my stupid online teacher sent the book to my old address...don't know why...anyway...So I end up staying with my friend a few days, currently there. I'm still seeking a job. Geek Squad I hope...and then I'm going to have my car at the end of the month and be living with my dad for a year since my friends ditched me saying you need credit to get an apartment and just never talked about rooming again. So I'll be chillin with my dad for a year and going to college and then hopefully if things turn out for the best. I'll be living with my girl friend when she gets her degree in a year.

I'm posting this as a question to who ever else has been through this...lol

And my mom claims I'm addicted...sorry I have nothing better to do. MOST the girls in FL are whores...and the others are taken or just not interested or lesbian...and without a car, I can't do much when you live 10 miles away from the nearest movie theater and 15 from Busch Gardens...if I had my car, I would be out of the house almost all the time. And not to mention my job...anyway yeah. Pz and I'm off to level DRK I hope.

Damn to think I got shit taken away for having a 2.5 GPA. Graduated with a 3.5 or something. You're lucky she didn't take that shit away before. I couldn't imagine the shit I would have gotten in if my GPA was that low. Congrats on proving the system wrong though that's always a good thing.

stop gaming, go out, get a job so you can get a car. then u can get credit and a place to stay so u can game all the hell u want ALONE.

This is the beauty of living in Florida...

Don't ever take it for granted in your youth.

I live between Palm Beach and Miami, so I'm between all the fun. :D

Also...

I agree w/what Mysticalone said, except the stop gaming part. Chill out on it a bit? Sure. The job and car are a great idea. GL w/Geek Squad, but if you're truly motivated to get a car, you should find a job you can get until you can move onto something more "desirable" for yourself.

Get you out of the house, and a car to have the option of goin' out.

;p GL w/whatever you end up doing in regard to dealing with the net-nazi.

She just used that as a lame excuse to kick you out. Pretty shitty if you ask me, parents need more balls.

Kicking you out though, is the best thing she could ever do for you. Why would you want to live at home once your able to move out anyway?

Thing to remember is, don't turn into a sponge. That is the worst thing you could ever do for yourself. Nobody respects the sponge.

Thanks for the advice.

I know not to be a sponge, I can stop myself, I was at my friends the past 3 days, and guess what? I'm back at my moms with all equipment at my access lol. But yeah, I have a car, just have to wait till early August, I'm gonna be living with my dad (which is totally sweet since he's not like my mom at all). Then I'll be working for sure no matter what, going to either a Art Institute or HCC (Hillsborough Community College). Thanks for the advice and for wishing me luck. Everyone needs a bit of it now and then. I'll keep you all updated lol.

Thanks again,
Helius

SOOOO yeah, are our mothers related? If it weren't for my father, my mom would have kicked me out a long time ago.

Granted, I'm 24 and have wanted to be out of the house since I was 18, but I got sued over medical bills and have been financially fucked over since then. She doesn't seem to understand that I dont have money to go out, nor do I want to get drunk every night on some other guys tab and get laid because I owe him for a drink. The money I am currently earning... doesn't belong to me. It belongs to my debtors. Slowly but surely I'm gaining ground against them, but if she was able to kick me out, without my father strongly objecting, I would be screwed. Out on my ass with terrible credit, everything, I would be exactly what Dante warned you of. A sponge.

Get as much as you can together, find a way to build an alright amount of credit. Even if its a cell phone plan, pay well on to-date on it every month, earlier even if you like. Your credit will grow quickly, and in a positive light. Best way to find that shit out for sure (everyones situation is different) talk to a financial advisor, advice is free. Good luck with that man, seriously.

I feel for you. My mom went through bankruptcy, and my dad is still paying it off. his credit is fine though since he chose to pay it off. I'll be getting my credit card here in a couple weeks and yeah.

Well, if you ever need help send me a PM, I mean this. We know what it feels like and we can overcome it, just let me know if you need something and I can see what I can do.

Definetly build your credit and that can be done multiple ways. You can build it easy and safe with prepaid credit cards if your worried.

Right now I work full time, play FFXI, and have time to have a social life. It's all about organizing what you can do and what you can afford.

99% chance she's right and you are addicted.

Couple of options here:

1) Accept it, as long as you're not neglecting life its not really hurting anything except maybe your social life. Work, school, girlfriend etc needs to be a priority. Chances are this option doesn't apply to you.

2) If it is affecting RL (if you had a 2.something GPA in high school it most certainly is), quit immediately and don't ever look back. I'd suggest destroying MMO CD's and putting your console shit in an old closet somewhere.

Work is the best remedy.

Work is the best remedy.

Word - took me 3 years to realize this. I'm finally working myself back to my old self, actually caring about working towards my goals and all...

I've tried moving out twice and both times i've gone back to my parents. As soon as I finish Uni and get myself a full time job i'll be moving out for good though. Just with university and the costs of moving out whilst on a student budget it's not worth busting my ass off. Especially not when I get on with my parents and sister so well :)

when you are still studying and really cant afford an own place its ok that you still live with your parents... so you can concentrate more on finishing your studies...

I consider myself fortunate that I wasn't able to join FFXI until *after* I got my degree (due to firewall restrictions at college). Yeah, it meant I was 3 years behind everyone else, but I was also financially set before I started gaming.

It's not always easy, but RL should always come first. The better jobs tend to have you work fewer hours (depending) which also equals more game time. Priorities should always be job > housing > car > everything else. FFXI should be waaay down at the end (even though it doesn't always feel that way).

Easy ways to boost your credit:

Get a job. That's the biggest factor

Have a savings account. Keep the minimum (usually $100) in it and never touch it. Just having one gives credit, and the longer you keep it, the better you look.

Get a checking account and have minimum waived by having your income directly deposited into the account. This saves you from having to cash a check every week, and creditors like it when your income goes to a bank before it goes to you. Setting up a direct deposit is free, because it saves the bank and your employer money (don't have to go through the costs of issuing and cashing checks).

Get one of those credit cards that doesn't require any past credit (they make up for it by charging HUGE amounts of interest). Now here's the hard part... DON'T USE IT (always use a debit card when you need plastic). Take it out *once* per month to buy something small (like a pizza) then log onto your account the very next day and pay it off from your checking account. So long as you have your account number, bank name, and routing number, you can set up to transfer money from any bank account to almost any credit card. Each month that you pay off the sum total of your credit card, no matter how small that total is, builds your credit. I'm 24, and I have a credit score just under 800 (which is really high for my age) - I have it because I've never run up credit card debt.

Once you build up a bit of credit, go back to your bank and request a small loan, something like $300. Put it in your savings account. Pay it back in full from your savings account when it comes time for the first payment (make sure you have that option in the loan). It may cost you a bit of money on interest, but it builds your credit by putting a fully paid off loan on your record. How much it builds your credit varies, and you'll have to experiment by requesting credit reports before and after you do it to see what that number is. Whether or not the boost to your credit is worth the cost of interest is up to you.

Agree with everything Celv said except these two statements.

Looks nice, perhaps... Count toward your FICO? Think not.

Find something to prove this. Long as you can pay on time, who cares?

Worked in the Financial Industry for almost three years before retiring to press on in school.

Find something concrete to back these two and I'll shut my yap.

Everything else, dead on Celv.

Cheers for pointing the whipper-snappers in a good direction.

No Credit Card companies don't want you to pay on time. They make most of their money, like banks, off of interest.

Otherwise listen to Celv he hit the nail on the head.

That was from a CitiBank underwriter (those who make the decision on whether or not to approve credit). While bank accounts don't change a *large* portion of your credit score, they do make you look more "stable." I believe this is why some cell phone contracts require you to have one.

Again, from an underwriter. By using direct deposit, you are giving up immediate access (and therefore, temptation to spend) your income. This is why banks will wave certain fees on accounts and certain fees on loans if you have your income set to directly deposit to your checking account. Same applies (in reverse) for utility companies waiving a deposit if you set up for automatic drafting.

I'm not 100% certain it changes your credit score, but they do make you look nice... which, when you think about it, is the whole point of the credit score to begin with. You're trying to convince an agency like a bank or a utility company to extend you a line of credit. If having an account and using direct deposit helps them make that decision in your favor, to me, it's as good as a higher credit score.

I know how it is slightly..

Im 17 I work not full time but as much hours as the will give me a week 20-30ish and my gf is out of town at her moms house for the summer. I don't have many friends that are available at the times I am and personally I'm a cheapskate.

I do spend a shit load of time in front of my pc when I'm not working there's nothing much to do besides spend an hour and a half walking to my mall because I don't have a car been saving for one for a while and of course the parents that bitch about you being in the house don't want to do anything to get you out of it.

But sometimes they can just be total pricks about it and just shut the net off and lock the cabinet that the modem is in up and not even consider the fact of maybe if they let me get something that could of taken a few hours to get people for / attempt (cause you know sometimes you just aren't successful at whatever your doing in game) then maybe I wouldn't have to spend possibly as much or even more of my time doing again.

So I look forward to the day I have my own place and I come home from work and the gf/wife w/e is still working her shift that I get to log on a game and play for a bit with no interruptions.. /drool

Well, me with this situation is 90% reality so far, but when my g.f. gets off her shift, she'll join me on FFXI or what ever game I'm playing >.<. Then we will prolly get freaky in the bed or something...lol jk. Anyway, yeah.

I pretty much fixed all my problems. Major one is college and to actually get a job I applied for.

I never had this problem because I excelled in high school even with sleeping in class and never doing homework (graduated with a 3.6 on a standard scale; it was over a 4.0 according to the school's scale, though). It's amazing your parents let you even play games with a GPA lower than a 2.0. Just count your blessings and move on.

On that same note I spent more time out of the house working out at a gym, hanging out with friends, and a part time job than I did playing FFXI.
