I'm fed up, and I'm laying down the law. Fellow QCDNers would be wise to follow in my footsteps. To any future pickup party leaders that want me in your group, please take note of my new rules for partying:

1) If you invite me, make sure there will be a party when I get there. No less than 7 times in the last 5 levels, I've gotten an invite, grabbed Signet and a chocobo, only to hear as I'm starting to travel "Sorry, party disbanded." Number of times I've been reimbursed for chocobo fare: 0. Completely low-class. The money isn't an issue, it's the principle. Which leads me to...

2) When I arrive at the pt, I will buff, get the SC/MB down, and eat a +1 food. If, in that hour, 2 or less members of the party eat food along with me - I will not use any more of mine. If no members eat, I drop the party. It comes down to the fact that, by not eating ANYTHING, you're basically saying that your gil is more important than mine. I refuse to accept that.

3) If your gear is bad (i.e. 15+ levels below and/or completely inappropriate, i.e. Taru WHM in full level 27-33 RSE,) I will call you out on it. If you decide to give me shit for it, I will send the leader a /tell to either replace me, or the gimped player. If you are the leader, I will disband. Bad gear costs a party untold numbers of chains and XP/hour. On that topic...

4) I have four tiers of XP/hr:

a) 3k+xp/hr. I will happily stay in a party like this. The higher this goes, the happier I am.

b) 2.5-3k/hr. I will stay in the party. This, at level 50+, is the bare minimum for what I consider a decent party.

c) 2-2.5k/hr. I will express my concern for the XP, and give the party another hour. If it does not improve, I will disband.

d) Under 2k/hr. I will express extreme disgust with the party for not being able to produce even the poorest of xp, and disband. I may also /blist members that I feel 'contributed' to the mess.

50+ is where you need to get serious. You don't need 5000 to level. You need 10,000 - and it shoots up dramtically from there.

5) If the party does not have a designated skillchain, I will be more than happy to provide one (Ever since SMNs got the ability to SC/MB, I've gone over the Renkei charts religiously.) If 30 minutes of XPing go by and the melees cannot consistantly pull off the desired skillchains, I will disband. Again, at this level, you should have at least a basic knowledge of these things. If you don't, I wonder how in the hell you made it this far.

6) Regarding AFK: Everyone needs bathroom breaks, random RL problems, and so on. But if you are AFK for more than 15 minutes, and/or go AFK without notice in the middle of a pull/fight, expect to be added to my 'do not party with again' list.

7) Please, PLEASE get rid of the macros that are annoying "Hey <t>! I'm the squishy white mage you want!", not a necessary /p macro (Boost, Warcry, Sentinel, Sharpshot, and other JA's that only affect you), or both (YO IM FEELING FROGGY{Jump}). On the other hand, for things that NEED macros (pulling, Escape, etc.) PLEASE make a macro. Nothing pisses me off more than a puller that just brings things back without warning, or at most, an 'inc' as they come into camp.

8) I am, by nature, a fairly quiet person in a party (those that have ptd with me can attest to this.) Do not expect me to join in your conversations about Ashlee Simpson's tits, the local sports team, your gil making woes, or anything else. I understand this is a social game - but that's what your linkshell or your /shout wars in South San d'Oria are for.

9) If you have to leave, make it known at least 15 minutes ahead of time, and find a replacement for yourself if possible. You may not find one, but make the effort. Or lie to me and say you made the effort, whatever. Emergencies are obviously different - but I will /sea for you during the next hour - and if you're in another party/have your flag up/etc, you're likely getting blisted for lying OVER A VIDEO GAME.

10) If you do not like me, or my rules, or my Taru hairstyle, or whatever, feel free to not invite me, not party with me, it honestly makes no difference. But when you invite me, you can rest assured that, as long as the rest of the group keeps up their end of the bargain, I will work my ass off to ensure a fast XP session.

I write this because of what Ryme said a day or so back - we, the NAs, as a whole are not closing the gap the way we should. We've had this game for a year now, and yet I run into the same people I ran into in the Dunes making the same mistakes now that they did then. Only now, their mistakes cost them 1000 xp instead of 300. And worst of all, most of them really don't seem to care all that much about improving themselves, making the grind go by at all faster. I may not be able to change everyone I party with, but damn it, I can deny them my services and make sure they don't piggyback me to levels they don't deserve.

I have to disagree with this. I understand the fact that you may not want to talk but I think a party should have conversations during resting times or during downtime or something. Personally, I don't take place in any conversation if the party is sucking but if it's good I enjoy conversation. Partying is something you have to do in this game but it's not suppose to be like you're going to school or work. If I misunderstood your post then please disregard this post.

Anyway, regarding things that I can't stand;

1.) When someone decides it should be their job to tell me to voke. Thanks very much but I've done this for about 39 levels and I think I can handle my own job from here.

2.) When I ask for Refresh, Regen, etc. and, when I ask repeatedly for said enhancer, the person starts to get annoyed and pissy with me for asking. I don't spam "REFRESH M3 PLZ OMGOMGOMGOMG <call> <call11> <annoyingasssound432>". I ask for it once or twice at a time.

3.) I will seriously leave a party, request someone is booted, or boot the next person that tells me or says that the exp we were getting without chains in one place is better than the exp we're getting when we're hitting chain 5 in another place. (ex. A party i was in was fighting rumblers in crawler's nest for about 170+ exp and hitting chain 2 or so, we moved to garlaige and took on bats- 100+ exp but hitting chain 5, or beetles- 190+ exp without a chain but usually ending the chain with one. One of the members of the party proceeds to /tell me over and over again about how we should go back to Crawler's Nest because the exp we're getting in garlaige sucks.) [Um...]

4.) Unless previously stated that you are going to be leaving once you level or that you have so much exp to your level and you have so much time till you have to go, don't fucking leave my party as soon as you level. I don't care if you have to go buy some new fucking gear or whatever, it can wait. If it can't, you should have brought it with you. This crap is rude and will warrant either a blacklist or an entry onto my "Do not ever party with this fuck again" list.

I completely agree with everything you said, and it has been my philosophy since I hit 40+. If you don't know the basics by 40+... /blist. No piggybacking going on here. Well, maybe some, but I won't get into that. ^^

I'm actually a bit more picky about my xp/hour though.

4k is what I shoot for. I'm content with near 4k.

3k-4k is acceptable, but I'll do everything in my power to find out why we're not getting 4k. Yeah, sometimes it's just not possible to get more than 3k, but I'll still try to figure where our shortcomings are.

2k-3k is unacceptable. If we can't get over 3k, I will seriously consider leaving the party.

less than 2k Figure it ou, and figure it out quickly please.

Of course, I'm in a BRD, NIN, RNG, BLM, WHM, THF static party, so I have the luxury of always getting 4-5k per hour pretty much every time we go out now. The only time we don't hit 4k is when we run out of mobs or have bad camp spots.

CubsWoo,

First of all, thanks for your rant: I loved it!

Your rules are a great help to "noobs" like me. In fact, I love reading the flames here so that I can avoid making idiotic mistakes and developing a bad reputation. I certainly strive to be an expert player.

I am thinking, though, that most players are not expert players. Admittedly I have not yet gone past level 20. I am wondering what percentage of players over, say, level 40 are expert players?

IMHO there is prolly no real expert player in this game. there is someone that will know something that another doesnt. it comes down to how well you have learned your particular job and how well you work with others in the pts that you join to gain xp.
ex:most people here are over lvl 40, however, not everyone in here has all jobs above 40, therefore they will have to learn whatever particular job they plan on doing next. and the best way to learn that job is to ask for advice on gear choices and tactics, etc

i agree with most everything you said Cubswoo, the only thing i don't agree on is the lack of conversation during a pt. I don't mind when we are fighting if noone talks, and the exp can be great with or without talking, but i'll be damned if i'm going to spend 6 hours in a party without at least getting a word or two during downtime, this isn't enough to warrant me leaving a party, but if i get bored well....i'll look for a replacement and go.

I may not be over lvl 40 (yet) but i pride myself on being the best i can at my job. Any time i play a new job i check forums and various other resources on tips/advice/guides to the job, and try to be the best i can. There is no reason why other's can't do the same by this lvl.

PS- i read your woodworking guide on Allakhazam.com, very helpful, thanks XD

Ok two things, first I still use my RSE pants and BLMs wer thier boots. RSE IS good stuff, if using the right gear.

Secondly I agree wiht most the rest of this, I have noticed and made comments on how many people have not improved since the dunes...

3 things actualy, I disagree with the conversation part. I truely believe that HELPS parties. Some things like whats your favorite RPG and are you looking at any of the new MMoRPGs REALY helps to break the ice.

It helps keeps the members intrest and makes them more proactive in teh group.

Well, he said Taru WHM in reference to the RSE; the Taru RSE has the following stats:

Body: Def 18, HP +36, STR +1, VIT +2, MND +1
Hands: Def 6, HP +12, STR +3
Legs: Def 12, HP +21, STR +1, VIT +2, MND +2
Feet: Def 5, HP +20, STR +2

So you can see how they're not the best gear for a mage at that level

Wow CubsWoo, I wish someone could copy your rant, and somehow inject that info into all the noobs' "brains." This game would be so much better if people could follow your guidelines.

On a small note, I do kind of disagree with your whole not talking during pt tab. I am always thrilled to be in pts with 6k exp per hour (yes that's right, I have been in 6 freaking k exp pts per hour!) but no conversation can be pretty dull. Usually the most conversation I have in my pts are about some of my favorite tv shows or crafting tips. I am pretty quiet too, but I feel that communication is important.

I also only have one macro: my pulling macro.
Many people have seen my strange and long pulling macros before, and I apologize to them (quifm + dunes pts). I didn't really know what I was thinking, but now my pulling macro is: Pulling <t> <call17>
I know you don't like calls, but <call17> is very soft and short.

Regardless of that, thank you again for taking the time to put that "bible of FFXI" on here, it is so good that I am actually going to be scared to pt with you if I ever do

Yeah, there's a BIG difference between the different races RSE. Elvaan RSE, for example, is pretty much essential for an elvaan mage (I'll be using my RSE gloves and boots til AF, as RDM- hubby plays elvaan BLM and will use gloves, boots, and jerkin). Now the Taru RSE, on the other hand, is TERRIBLE for a mage- but great for a Taru that wants to melee, heh.

But to get back on track- I agree with Cubswoo 100%. I'm getting up into the Genkai range myself now, and thank the heavens every time we xp that I have a great, competent, fun, static group. If I had to take my chances with pickup groups every time, I'd have quit months ago. I wish you luck in your crusade. ;)

Right on, Cubs. I get tired of being on other jobs and having to carry clueless fucks with my good gear and skills. My most enjoyable parties are parties where I don't have to question the competence of the people IN the party. I like to feel relaxed and confident in my party's abilities... and gear can tell me a LOT of that story. A +1 Item here or there really helps that confidence out.
Also, while I played THF myself for nearly 49 levels, I REALLY hesitate to invite a THF unless I know them. Why? Because ~80% of them are downright HORRID players with bad equipment. Takes more than 3 Swings on the first voke to set up SATA? No thanks. That almost defeats the purpose of having a THF in the party... Hell, half of the THF i've partied with in all my time spent on this game don't even use food. Which is pretty much a waste of a party spot that could be taken up by someone competent. ^^

Cubs IS very quiet in a party. I think you all are missing his point... he doesn't give a shit what you talk about, he just won't participate in it. Don't mistake him for being an asshole, because he's a very enjoyable person to talk with; the problem comes with people EXPECTING everybody in the party to chat. Elyssa, as far as I understand, almost never chats in her parties. Does that qualify her as a grade-A-bitch? Not really. Hell, people that don't know her think she's JP. Cubs just isn't interested in party conversation... what little he talks in the parties though he makes up for in LS chat. ^.~ lol

Wow cubswoo your last paragraph encapsulated everything i have felt for the past half a year.

We can no longer go under the excuse that "the JPs have had the game so much longer than we have." Almost a year has passed and to be frank, when i started the game in December the JPs had had it for around 1 year, and I think they were quite a ways better than the level of gameplay I currently see happening in the NA community.

SPECIFIC jobs that have problems? I think RDM would have to be my biggest complaint. Lately in all my parties, I've had to remind RDMs not only for REFRESH, but even for Dispel on the mob. BLMs often dont use the weakening spells like shock, drown, frost etc., and WHMs dont use the regen spells enough! Furthermore, i have seen some DD class with their weapons a few levels behind, i mean cmon, you ARE a DD, at least have the weapon at the right level right?

hahaha...

i don't care about the <call> 'cause i play with the volume off. what i really hate is after every fight, SOMEONE has to go AFK for some bullshit. EVERY mutha fawkin' fight there's someone with a AFK. that shit is stupid and annoying. can't get a chain going when someone has to go AFK.

I have a question for everyone. When you are in a pt and you see these people not doing their job, do you ask/tell them to do something the corret way or have you already given up on them. I like it when people tell me I am doing a good job, but on the flipside if I were doing a bad job I would hope someone would tell me that as well. I know I want to be the best at what I am doing, and that can only be accomplished be feedback.

when i'm leveling a random job and i see something wrong, i'll say something. doesn't hurt my feelings if i get negative feedback, but hell if i'm going to put myself through a few more fights where everything is just out of wack 'cause someone doesn't know what they're doing and won't take any advice.

so many times ive seen someone blanantly playing their job wrong

and instead of taking feedback they get all defensive... that's a big problem =( nyone else ever experience that?
