I still say the last truely original games were on the Nintendo. Everything after that are advancements on previous technology set forth in those games. But making this arguement is like saying that all modern computers are inferior to the punch card system because it was creatively first. Just because companies are capitalizing on people that just don't care that they're being fed the same steak with some different seasonings much like all those "family restaurants" do. It's good business to recycle good ideas. It's not cost effective to sit on your ass while you think of something innovative. The first video games were creative out of neccessity, because there was no precedent, they had no idea what was going to be popular.
Stop saying that one system is better than the other because of the "repetative" nature to their games because I can show several examples of how Mario Party is a good portion just 3D rendered 70's arcade games, though I doubt I could put up comparative pictures. Sure Final Fantasy has been a repetitive series but they bank on that fact. It works. Final Fantasy is still one of the best lines of games ever because they created the multi-char RPG market. They know that you'll buy the next one because the others were such big hits, the formula just works. Doesn't matter why. It's all business.
Now I say, if you like a game, play that game. If you don't, don't. Just don't go around saying that others should bow down to your preferred system because it has some feature that you find amazing compared to others. This, last I checked, was a country about freedom of opinion. I personally don't like X-box, but I don't go around saying 'ZOMG PS2 is 10000000x better! Halo SUX' because I respect other's right to like Halo.
The only thing I can honestly knock, being a student in the field of computer engineering, is that all systems made by Sony and Microsoft WILL break down do to poor electrical design. You ever notice how PS2s die after a few years, namely stop reading discs? And did you hear about how Microsoft had to kill their hotline for 360 because every single system of the first shipment had a critical design error? Nintendo rarely has these sorts of problems but I'm not gonna toot their horn. They built durable because they built it to survive maltreatment by kids.
Back to the controller arguement. I bet theres ergonomics experts being paid a pretty penny to figure out what the most comfortable shape and design is for everyone. The problem is the diversity of cultures doesn't allow for an absolute norm. If you notice, you mostly hear complaints that Playstation is too small in the controllers. If you notice, Playstation is an Asian made system. Asians, as a race, tend to be smaller in stature than the average Caucasian. So, it's only normal that they design smaller, and neglect to scale for the American audience. Also, most video game systems are designed to be marketed for the under 20 audience, who tends to be a great deal smaller than the fully grown adults. This is just my oppinion on the matter, feel free to disagree, and I'm probably way off base to the actual design process.
In conclusion, Tetris > all 3D games.
