After a party I was invited to in the dunes earlier today scared the living hell outta me, I figured I'd bitch about it here, and start up a list to avoid the 'tards.

PT Layout:

BLM 12 : Davion (leader)

RDM 10: Inguo

BST 14 / WHM 7: ??? (forgot name)

WHM 14 / BLM 5: Chainer

SAM 9 / WAR 4: (myself, shocked at lv gap)

So I get the invite into this pt after being pointed at by Inguo several times. After the invite, as I wait for what I saw on the Member List to sink in, I see Davion and Inguo saying "come on lets go", as if the PT was ok and ready to level. Me and chainer (the only ones noticing a problem with the PT) start trying to make sense of wtf it was that just happened, telling these guys that this PT cannot possibly work, while we get "..."s from Davion and Inguo. I tell them that me being tho lowest lv in the party, + the 4 other members, + the 5 level gap, + the BSTs pets will make my EXP nil. Not that the PT could fight anything in the first place. I tell them that im gonna write down the PT layout for future reference, and the BST chimes in: " oh i wont use any pets unless we need to, so its ok". I disband, /disgusted at Davion, Inguo, and the BST for their utter noob-ness, and seek. About a minute later, a Taru MNK walks in and invites me. His dialect riddled with the usual "ne" and "1" abbreviations, he manages to get a full PT going (all lv 11, me being the only 9 >_<). After many more minutes of waiting (gonna start soloing crap instead of waiting like a damn fool), everyone gathers at the Konschtat zone. Leader Taru MNK decides we'll take an IT Lizard. The WHM stands amongst the melees, curing away, while the THF takes damage into the near-red zone somehow. (Had a BLM, but wearing noobRSE armor. when asked, "I have no money and nobody seems to want to just give me any. (Dalolah)) I get
about 134 EXP, and Sathe, the WAR, says, "40 TNL!"

. . .

Myself being the only underleveled person, I figure I'll have to leave the party next fight. Instead, the next IT lizard decides to kill the tank (Hahaha!). The WHM uses Benediction, not before I die of Poison. I HP, turns out they tried to zone, ended up killing it, I get my lv, disband, type this out.

So yeah, feel free to add names to this list of bad PTers.

Holy shit, man, this is amazing. I heard this exact story earlier from my brother, who just happens to be Chainer. He mentioned that you two were the only competent members in the group. Thanks for listing the names, because he had forgotten. Now I know some more people to avoid in the dunes.

O_O He told me about you too lol. Said that you came here a lot.

Keep in mind that when someone is lvl 10-12 without a subjob it's probably one of their first major pt experiences. Though I'm surprised that the BST (who must have gotten at least one job to 30) didn't point out the lvl gap problems earlier. :?

(BTW, Inguo is in my LS)

the BSTs pets will make my EXP nil

Beastmaster's pets have NO EFFECT on the parties exp., UNLESS the pet is of a higher level than the highest level in the party. IT WILL have an effect on the Beastmaster's exp., if the pet survives the battle.

I got one: Asiamalie

This morning in Qufim I had very strange experiences. First: I get asked to party. I reply to tell "sure". Now, most people leave qufim around 35. SOMETIMES you see a 26 (I was 24 war/nin. Not the BEST combo, but fun). The guy who sent tell, as it turned out, was a 27 mnk w/ no sub. Then he gave me leadership of the party and said "you're leader" at which point I just disbanded. If I could remember his name I'd post it. Then Asiamalie. She sent tell and I replied sure, I'd like to party. So I got invite. there were 4 others, making it 5 people. No whm, but that happens. Patience is a virtue. On way to the tower, Asiamalie sends another tell asking me to party.
This was odd.
I sent a tell back saying "You already asked me and I accepted. I'm in your party now." No response. I get to the tower and someone just quits the party. No word of anything, but has flag up for a new party. Whatever, shit happens.
So I'm just chillin, there's 4 in the party, and I'm waiting for Asiamalie to fill the party. I look up and All the sudden there's Asiamalie with an IT pug. She pulled it 1) w/out healer 2) with only 4 in party and 3) without even so much as a hint that she might be pulling anything. So I voke it offa her, cause it was about to kill her, and head right for the zone. Tell everyone "ZONE" and we did. Then she d/c'd. I sent tells to the blm in the party and told him "she d/c'd right before I could disband" and he said "Me too"

AND THEN

Asiamalie comes back on and invites me to pt. I send tell saying "No, I don't trust you, god luck though" and decline invite. She sends invite again! I turn it down again. She sends it a 3rd time. I decline and send tell "NO!"

I went temporarily offline for breakfast. Came back about 10 mins later. 30 secs after coming back online- Asiamalie invites. I decline. She invites again! I send tell "Why do you keep inviting me? I will not pt with you"
No reply after, and no more invites.

Maybe she was a JP and there was a language barrier, I dunno. Maybe she just hates this game and everything in it.

ALSO-- Do not confuse Asiamalie with Asiamise, a person who contributes to this board. I have never pt'd with Asiamise, but given her writings, she HAS to be better than Asiamalie.

I don't think this person was doing it because they were a JP and couldn't understand you, she saw that you kept rejecting her invites.

I really think this person was just doing it to be an ass. Though the pt invite after you had already joined is an odd bit of WTFery.

In addition to the lvl gap problem, I see you are the ONLY melee in the group. Were they thinking the lvl 9 guy in the dunes was gonna be the tank? What WERE they thinking?

You *can* go to dunes at lvl 9 but my personal philosphy is to always solo any new job to a minimum of lvl 11 before I even think about partying. Lvl 11 can be tough enough.

I know people complain about parties in lots of places, but the Dunes is "special" -- it's usually the first place where people get any party experience at all. I'm always pretty careful when joining a party that includes people who have no sub-jobs of any kind! I'll do it as long as their chemistry isn't averse to accepting some guidance from the more advanced players. "Noobs" I can handle -- eveybody has to be a noob sometime (some just handle it a little better than others). Abbrasive and arrogant noobs I cannot handle!

I got a paper party in Eldieme last night. Me, the only 49, and a thf, sam, drk, and rdm, all level 50. We had a 65 rng, Rashyyk, helping us, but he left because he didn't want to go all the way through E ron>>pass>>glacier. His original plan was to have the drk tractor him up a cliff. Me and the drk (Kloud, cool guy) pointed out several times that tractor works on only dead people, but he didn't respond. So we get there, we start killing Lichs (I think we killed six or seven in two hours, sadly). The rdm (Getshorty) keeps pulling Mummies along with the Liches. A few times, when the Lich proved tougher than we thought, the thf (Turii) would hit flee, shout ZONE ZONE ZONE ZONE and then do just that. We'd stay and kill the lich and wait for her to come back. We didn't do all that badly, especially considering we had a drk tanking, and we only had one death. After we decided to disband, Turell, the sam, gets really pissed and shouts "(Help me out!) very desperate (Samurai) needs (limit) Paper!." He does this twice, and immediately after the second uses a warp scroll. So, all in all, a few hundred xp, some earth crystals, and an Eldieme chest key are all I get.

Heh, the valk lvl gap club. I love it. I was lvling my thf not too long ago in valk when i get an invite to a pt (i had been seeking for roughly an hour and i was desperate for a pt). So I get into this party and look at the member list (i do this quite a lot in all my parties b/c I like to know the roles of each person). But the party i was in was running 3 warriors, a black mage, a monk, and me the thief. I was lvl 13 at the time and our party ranged from lvl 10- lvl 16...../help!
One warrior finally disbanded saying they were too low, the lvl 10 but i decided to go too and then the warrior (who was also the Party Leader) argued with me about disbanding along with the rest of the party.
"No, you stay and be a strong party"
"..."
Narel>"No, how about you stay and be a "strong" party leader"
"whats the deal with the ""?!!!!"
"Well im messing up everyone's exp"
"Guys plz doooooon't fight!!!!!"
Narel>"What exp? Have you seen the gap? Im only lvling thf to 15, i don't wanna spend my entire life as a 13 thf."
"What do you mean?"
"Quit being a fucking noob"
"..."
Narell>"Nevermind, im leaving. Bye all"
[disband]

This was the tail end of a party that did nothing but talk for around 30 minutes and killed 3 or 4 snippers. The most exp i got off one kill was 30 something. And someone died too, i just cant remember who. But i had to put this up b/c Kyo's pt was so like mine.

Well.... isn't this just the greatest problem of levelling? It seems it always happens when you first party. That's why I DREAD the dunes and the level 10-17. After 17, people smarten up and figure out they can't deal with huge five level gaps.

However! if a party is set up properly, you can still take on enemies with a big gap. The tanks have to be the highest level though. You can't have a level 16 whm with a level 11 tank...that's just stupid. If the whm is the lowest level and the tank is the highest level, I can see it working better. The damage dealers had better be high up in level. Now that we're done with theory, this probably only ever happens once in a blue moon since many people who actually levelled past 20 will never touch a five level gap party.

I was in party with a gap from 11-15. Our level 15s were a rdm and a whm....I was a paladin at level 13, with two other warriors at 12 and 13. I forget what the sixth person was. ANyways, fine fine... I'll deal with the party because I was having trouble finding one. But then the two warriors think they can tank over me! We even compared defenses and I had them beat by 20 points. But nope, they decide a warrior with no sub job can tank better. So I try my best to keep hate, but its hard to when they voke after I voke...kind of defeats the purpose.

I hate levelling between 11-17. I try to get together with people and party in the maze at least until 14 or so...but it's hard getting a party in that area nowadays. That's my rant. But one final comment on "Maybe she was a JP and there was a language barrier, I dunno. Maybe she just hates this game and everything in it. " To assume they're just japanese is just lame. There are many different reasons it could be but any intelligent person, Japanese, European, or North american would get the hint after 3 or 4 declines plus a disband. So I would just say the person is stupid and move on.

I have one to add . . . mind you, this happened a long time ago, but I was reminded of it when I saw this guy in Jeuno the other day. His name is Bushwick, and last I saw he saw a low-20's BLM.

When I partied with him, he was a WHM with no sub. I was leveling my BLM sub, about level 12 or so, and got a invite to a Maze party. There were 5 of us, so we decide to chain some tough Akbabas just outside while looking for a 6th.

On the first fight, I notice our tank's HP dropping a lot. When the tank went into the red, I had to start curing (yes, as BLM) to save his hide. Finally, towards the end of the fight, when the tank would've probably died if I hadn't stopped nuking to chaincast cure as fast as possible, Bushwick throws off a Cure 2.

Now, the following isn't an exact quote from the dialogue that followed, but it's close enough for these purposes.

I send Bushwick a /tell, saying "I noticed you seemed to be holding out for Cure 2. At this level, Cure is more mana efficient, you may want to cast that, and save 2 for emergencies."

He responds "Yeah, meanwhile the tank is dead because he didn't get healed enough"

Me: "Well, that's why you keep casting Cure 1 until 2 is needed . . . "

Him: "Whatever champ, who's the WHM and who's the BLM?"

Me: "Hey, I'm just trying to help, I've played healer a lot at this level, and I've found that Cure 2 just isn't worth the mana for a few levels yet"

Him: "Yeah, well who gives a fuck. I'm not really a WHM, so what does it matter"

Me: That's a poor attitude to have- you may not be a WHM normally, but you're one NOW, and the party is counting on you in that capacity"

Him: *string of obscenities*

I'd had enough at this point. I say to the party: "I'm sorry, but I don't think this party will work, I believe your WHM is going to get someone killed, and don't want it to be me. I wish you luck." Just before I put in /disband, I see Bushwick over /p say "Oh boo hoo, go home and cry to momma you pussy"

So yeah, real class act there. Happy end to this story is that the leader sent me a /tell asking what happened. I explained the situation and Bushwick got kicked, and I was invited back in, lol. 15 minutes later we'd found a WHM and Ninja duo which we brought into the group, and I got from 12 to 14 in less than 2 hours. :D

If others have had the same problem with him that I have, it may be part of the reason that he's only low-20's BLM now, some 2 months later. *shrugs*

Yeah... a big problem for these Dunes PTs to suck so much is that the experienced players dont seem to have the patience to educate the newbs...
I cant say I've ever been in a PT that didnt have at least one person with a subjob included... Although sometimes, even I dont have the patience to try to show the truly stubborn ones the light... And it should be a general rule to not enter the dunes till level 11, if only for the fact that even one level under,
you cant even do damage to a lizard (which is what all the dunes PTs ive been in lv 9/10 seem to love pulling)... I have a tachi equipped, and the lv 11 mages are hitting (melee) for more damage than me... Of course, i made sure they stopped meleeing, but jeez... it hurt to rarely hit a mob, and hitting a mob does 0 damage... Its as if they have stoneskin + phalanx on at all times...

I don't even touch the dunes till level 12. 13 if i can put up with the time to solo. I recently started levelling pld and died 5 times in one night at lvl 12. Across 2 parties too. So I soled to 13 and havent really had any problems since. However my NIN just hit 12, and soloing NIN is a bitch, but I'm considering subbing anything BUT war to go into the dunes just so i won't be asked to tank. Don't get me wrong, I LOOOVE tanking, but even as a pld, where I can partially heal myself, none of the ~12 mages could keep me alive. As a NIN? Nin's aren't REALLY even designed to tank. They CAN, but utsusemi only goes so far. I'd be REALLY lucky to get someone who understands NIN tanking and can voke off of me for utsu-recasts. I am not feeling lucky. I talked to a guy who's been NIN tanking at those levels and he said he hasn't had a problem, but any time I tank in the dunes it makes me nervous. When I ran drk through there, I didn't sub war till lvl 15 because I kept getting requests to tank. I tried it, drk tanking, knowing it wouldnt work, and it DIDN'T work.

As far as Asiamalie:
To assume they're just japanese is just lame. There are many different reasons it could be but any intelligent person, Japanese, European, or North american would get the hint after 3 or 4 declines plus a disband. So I would just say the person is stupid and move on.

I was only trying to give the benefit of the doubt. To try and find SOME way that this person couldn't be SO retarded. Its reaching, but I'd rather assume the best than the worst. I was in a pt in Qufim today and Asiamalie ran by. 3 players almost simultaneously typed "Don't invite Asiamalie!". It was funny. She must REALLY REALLY be bad.

That's the kind of reputation you dont' want to acquire. That's so bad I almost feel sorry for her. But then...if I ended up partying with her and she was incompetent...I think I'd be super pissed too.

Haha, Man I just don't see you striking fear into the hearts of others when you're "super pissed."

But it's cute to think of it 8)

My strategy with pre-37 NIN has been to act as a co-tank, rather than main tank. Let someone else be main tank, and then you have the option to voke it off him 1 or 2 times during the fight, in order to cut down on the overall healing needed. But PLEASE PLEASE do not go as a NIN/whatever....everyone of those that i've partied with has just been completely useless in my eyes, and even gotten me killed T_T NIN/non-war is like a Thief without Sneak Attack.
