with the shit economy as it is atm, has anyone other then myself had a run of bad luck as of late? i lost my job a month and a half back and havnt been able to find one that will be willing to pay what i need to pay my bills. i dont have any family that would bail be out and all my friends have the same finacial difficulties i am, to a lesser extent.

i dont have any children or dependants per say, but just the run of bad luck in RL, bills piling up nearing the 2k mark and and overall shitty exp in-game the last week... ive started to be come heavily depressed. i have the contant battle between in myself on what to do next.

do i smoke a bowl to relax my nerves, and thus failing any drug test i might get for a job? do i sell my assest to make it threw to the next month, or stash them somewhere and break out the fishing pole and hit up the soup churches to eat. should i quit ffxi? do i go into any given store and just take what i want because i dont have anything else to lose? or do i just end it all together.

dont want get all emo, but this is things that keep me from sleeping more then 3 hours a night. i pray for my misfortune to go away but they go unanswered. so im really at my wits end and really am clueless and powerless to decide which path to take...:irked:

thx for the positive replies in advance...

Sorry to hear about your situation Roady, but as unfortunate as it is job loss is quite common these days. Have you tried going to the local EDD and checking their database for listings? You could even check Craigslist.org as well. You could also check retail since there is always a need in the Holiday season to have more staff just as a temporary relief. I personally hate retail since that was my field at first.

The irony is that it's harder (from my experience) to find a job when you don't have one as opposed to currently having a job then looking for a new one. Don't sulk man, that is the worst thing you can do, put your energy out there and try and use every resource out there to find a new job, even part time to supplement your income for now.

Hope this helps and I hope that things look brighter for you soon in these overcast days.

:)

This is where I found the job I am currently in. There are also many sites you can put your resume up in, so you don't even have to apply per se, people find your resume and email you.

Well first thing you should do is file for unemployment. Second thing you should do is sign up for assistance like food stamps or something. The $12 (average) a month spent on FFXI really isn't going to break the bank. So if you enjoy the game and it helps you to relieve stress then don't quit. As for weed, idk thats all your choice.

Ya, monster and careerbuilder are OK too (they didn't work for me, but my student's have had some success lately, so it's an option). My suggestion - cancel your content ID for a month or two and just focus on sending resumes, following through with replies- you'll find it's so much easier to concentrate on the job at hand when there isn't something like the game nagging at the back of your mind. Go door to door with your resume if need be. The more you get it out there, the more luck you'll have getting responses from potential employers. Set a goal for how many resumes to send each day. A good number is 25/day. Within two-three weeks you should start seeing results.

2 things I'll mention from my experience.

1) If you're putting your contact info on your resume, espicially an e-mail, try not to have anything that can link you to something a potential employer might find that can look bad on you. I'm talking about Myspace. I've turned down a handful of applicants in the past because a quick search of their e-mail brought up some stuff that I didn't exactly like. I don't know how many employers do this, but you never know, you might not get a call back just because of it.

2) If you're looking online, don't stress too much if you don't meet the requirements for a job, if you feel it looks a potential job, go for it anyway. Most places will put 4 years or something of experience neccessary, or a certain degree needed. If you think you can have a shot, do it anyway. My friend applied for a job he didn't meet the requirements for, while he didn't get it, the employer was so impressed they gave him another position instead. Sometimes you'll go for something and you might find a oppurtunity that wasn't listed instead. Don't let huge lists of requirements scare you off, as long as your getting your name out there it's better than not sending it at all.

Good luck, and keep going, don't get discouraged, just keep sending those resumes out.

Prett much goes without saying, the same goes for Facebook. Those 1/2 naked pictures of you drunk at a party might be funny to you and your friends, but to an employer it just means "will probably call in 'sick' more often than not" or "will be an embarassment at the Christmas Party".

Which is why if you're worried about it, you set those profiles so only friends can see.

Check your pm's RK.

They can still see profile pics ;) Trust me, some of my friends have had doozies O.o

If you're a dumbass that has a link to Myspace and Facebook in your email then yeah you deserve it. Although I have heard stories where companies deliberately look through those sites to see what you are outside of work. In my opinion whatever the fuck you do outside of work should be your own business and not your boss'.

Back when I used to smoke weed I applied to Bestbuy and the hiring manager loved the interview I gave. Right before I left the interview he gave me a sheet to go and get a pee test for drugs. I took the paper read it and then just handed it back to him and told him, "What I do outside this building is none of your business, and this is for a retail position not for an executive position. Thanks for your time."

Roadkill i feel your pain along with a large percentage of the country.

I am a 24 year old Civil Engineer. Up until 2 months ago i felt my life was going great and job security was no issue.

Now i have not lost my job but have witnessed 4 friends and great workers get released in the last month. One a co engineer, one surveyor, one head planning assistant and the receptionist...

The owners of our company works right there along side us daily and they have tried alot of things to cut back costs and what not. I now go to work damn near afraid man... Its just not right.

Must be a location deal. I work for a construction management company (commercial not residential) and our business is just as good as ever. So is the civil engineerin' team under our roof and our subs. Then again, Texas is boomin' right now like people wouldn't believe. Residential is definitely a different matter though.

My Uncle is an estimator in Alabama for a commercial construction firm as well, for a pretty nice company, and they've taken a hit with all of this but not so bad to worry about their jobs. They just have to pick and choose their jobs really, really carefully. A lot of companies right now in strugglin' areas are underbiddin' for their services just to get a job which causes smarter companies to loose out as does it cause a lot of problems when these undercuttin' companies ultimately go under because they can't afford to finish a job they underbid.

It all goes back to one thing, people doin' things they can't afford screw up the market for those who simply stay within our means. Its how we got here to begin with, you'd think people would learn.

We have enough work to survive from past jobs.. At the moment its the Trump Tower here i am still working with tho its allready in the building process.

The problem here is the people who are backing out of there projects. We had done so much work in the last year on the Ritz Carlton that was supposed to go up in our city and then bam... They backed out and are waiting for a better market. Thats just one of the larger jobs we were hurt by.

Im not tryin to be a recruiter but if your having a bad time job wise, enlist in the air force... yes i know "its the military" but honeslty its just like a job on the outside world, with a deeper function/stricter guidelines :| like i said think about it i love the air force
