The elusive Pipira

I was wondering if anybody had any pointers about fishing this rather annoying individual.

Being a poor Mithra who also chose both of her "mains" to be rather expensive jobs (SAM and BLM) I'm trying to make the best of my fishing career gil-wise and from 14/29 the lovely Pipira seemed like a good choice since I can either sell it or cook it.

I did the usual homework, checked the Clan Wind database and I tried all around Windurst with a minnow getting an amazing 10 or so bites and one fish in over an hour.

The database had some other spots but before trying those and wasting more time I thought I'd ask. So, does anybody have any pointers as to where I could fish Pipira reasonably, or is it just a rare fish and not really suited for skilling ?

No idea where to fish for Pipira... I leveled fishing from 10 to 17 in the rivers in East Ronfaure (composite and fly lure), and from 17 to 27 fishing up moat and tricolored carp in Zeruhn Mines (mithran and insect paste, fish off the bridge). Skillups were rather slow in the mines, but moat carp were pretty common, so you can get decent money from selling them (or work on getting Lu Shang's if that's what you want) while you level.

Pipira fishing is going to be slow no matter what. However, you'll probably have better luck with meatballs as opposed to a minnow. I was fishing these back when I was making meatballs to level cooking and had a huge overstock. Standing at the fountain in Windy Woods, I think I got a stack in about an hour to an hour and a half. It was then that I saw they only went for 5K a stack (at that time, dunno what the rate is today) and I quit fishing them, lol.

Like you say, Ronfaure and Zeruhn are usually the most common roads to high 2x fishing, but I was just wondering about the possibility of doing something different.

Moat carp gives gil but not skillups after 11 and in theory Pipira can take you from 14-29 while also providing gil (currently a stack of Pipira is 6k and you can cook it with farmed fire crystals to 10k).

Naturally, I approached this concept with very little optimism (if it actually worked, everyone would be doing it) but I guess I'm just not ready to assume that every possible thing in the game has been done and we all must walk in our "forefathers" footsteps

Young mithran foolishness, most likely 8)

Anyway, thank you for the advice :)

I'll try that and see if I get better bites... Thanks.

Pipira are notoriously stingy with bites. You'll probably have better luck with meatballs than lures, though.

Moats do only skill up to 11, but most anywhere you fish for moats you can also catch tricolored carps (cap at 27) and gold carps (cap at 56), so you can make some gil by catching the moats and still level your fishing.
