Very good movie and like Zeitgeist you may not agree with everything that it says but it is worth watching to atleast think about.

Man, it seems like everyday there's a new conspiracy movie on QCDN. Is it just me or are these getting like a wtf moment?

As usual, rampant ignorance on the part of the creator lost me fairly early on.

As usual, rampant ignorance on the part of the creator lost me fairly early on.

I love how several people on QCDN love to make arguments of this nature. Grandiose statements of how incredibly obvious certian things are yet not examples are provided so that it is impossible to make a counter argument against them.

Rampant ignorance in regards to what? history? current political situation? not trusting the government?

If you are going to be rampantly ignorant you need to be rampantly ignorant about a certain topic.

If you are going to be rampantly ignorant you need to be rampantly ignorant about a certain topic.

In this particular instance, rampant ignorance of the political and societal mechanisms existent in both the US and pre-Nazi Germany, and the final straw being the bold assertion that the US was the only country suppressing the rights of individuals in the name of anti-terrorism operations.

This is stuff you'll get in the first 10 minutes of this film. If you haven't picked up the obvious agenda of its creator by then, and the lengths to which they are willing to go to forward that agenda, then I can't help you, as it is incredibly obvious.

Being a skeptic doesn't mean buying into whatever fringe lunacy strikes your fancy on a given month just because it goes counter to mainstream opinion. It means treating everything with an equal level of distrust.

First of all i will confirm that there is a strong agenda associated with this movie. But isn't there a strong agenda associated with anything political why expect anything less from a feminist progressive.

I also do not believe that it makes the assertion that the only government that are currently taking the initiatives is the US in fact it shows clips from the Madrid train bombing and the 7/7 bus bombings in London. But the fact is that there is a fundamental difference between European countries and the US. European countries do not have the same assertions in place for their government. European governments are built on the foundation that the government gives rights to the people and in the US it is actually the opposite in that the the power of government is granted by the people. This ideological difference may sound unimportant but it is actually the greatest gift we have in this country and the one that we seem to be the most willing to ignore.

Let me ask you a question in a different method...

Do you believe that the people who accepted the beginnings of Nazi Germany were naturally evil and dumb or do you believe that they were convinced by their government that they were doing the right thing. Now i don't think that they are naturally evil but i do believe that people can be conditioned to hate. If every day you are hearing that the Jews or the terrorists are ruining your life. Most people even today believe that if not for the events of 9/11 we would still be living a blissful life and this economic meltdown and all the events of the last few years would not have happened. That is a possibility but it is not necessarily true the same way as the Germans were told by their government and media that the Jews were the reason for their economic problems.

Now here is my question... If you were a German during this era would you have been for or against the Nazi party with their answers for your problems and promises of how to fix it? Beyond this what is the difference between us now and them then that we are so much smarter that we would not fall for the same propaganda.

I am not saying that you need to subscribe to the idea that we are heading towards fascism but i believe that it is "rampant ignorance" to completely ignore the possibility and at least ask the question.

Benjamin Franklin once said, “To Follow by faith alone is to follow blindly.” Meaning it is okay to believe but at least ask the questions.

First thing I learned when I took a class in film is to never EVER EVER EVER EVER flaunt yourself around in a documentary. Unless of course it's HEAVILY related to the main idea, or an autobiography.

This as you can see in the first 4mins, is this: Patriotism; 9/11; Bush; HER HER HER HER HER.

Seems like a part of the disinformation movement as well. A mass psychosis where we as humans tend to fabricate nonsense out of nowhere and flood it presented to be the truth, whereas it's just more BS.

Man, Dejavu. Why aren't me and you like best buddies?

Man, Dejavu. Why aren't me and you like best buddies?

Mutual respect im sure but never really had the opportunity to become friends.

I also do not believe that it makes the assertion that the only government that are currently taking the initiatives is the US ...

The very first thing she says in the 2nd clip is, basically, "Other nations were attacked by the same bad guys, but went after them while protecting the rights of their citizens".

Which is a complete and utter lie. Other nations did the exact same thing that the US government did, to varying degrees, and trod upon the assumed rights of their citizens as well.
Do you believe that the people who accepted the beginnings of Nazi Germany were naturally evil and dumb or do you believe that they were convinced by their government that they were doing the right thing.

They weren't stupid; they were ignorant, anti-semitic, and in some ways desperate. To a degree that nobody in the US can truly understand. Germany had lost a war, had their entire culture brought under siege in many ways, and had recently suffered hyperinflation to a degree rarely seen before. What's worse, they hadn't just lost. They'd surrendered, and done so under conditions that left many Germans believing that the surrender had been... premature, at least, and possibly unnecessary.

There was an awful lot of blame to be placed, and the Nazis gave convenient targets to place it on, exploited the system to the greatest extent that they could, and ultimately discarded the system after they had attained a sufficient level of power. Hitler had persuaded the Weimar Republic to suspend many fundamental rights well before the Nazis actually took control of Germany.

The situations between post-9/11 America and the Weimar Republic bear only the most superficial similarities.

Now here is my question... If you were a German during this era would you have been for or against the Nazi party with their answers for your problems and promises of how to fix it? Beyond this what is the difference between us now and them then that we are so much smarter that we would not fall for the same propaganda.

The first question is openly insulting, and as such, it will receive no further attention.

Secondly, we're not falling for the same propaganda, in part because we are better informed than the average German was. It's equally easier to reach the average American with propaganda, of course, but on the whole, we're both less trusting of the government by nature, and more importantly, we have considerably less reason to be swayed to extreme action.

The Patriot Act is not, for example, the Reichstag Fire Decree. And it's sure as hell not the Enabling Act.

America as a whole was shocked on 9/11. But let's be honest for a moment. Not quite 3,000 people died on 9/11. Out of roughly 300 million people. The economy hiccuped, but frankly it was already in decline, and would later rally to new heights not long after the event. It was a shocking attack, but in the grand scheme of things, it had little to no effect on the average citizen.

Contrast this to Germany after WWI. They lost ~2.5 million people out of ~60 million. Not just that, but the majority of those casualties were taken from the most productive members of society. They were forced into crippling economic decline by the victors of the war. Before the currency was forcibly stabilized, the government was printing German Mark notes with denominations in the trillions. The political upheaval at the end of the Weimar Republic was vast; in many ways it bordered on civil war.

Conspiracy theorists love to paint the situation with the brush of Nazi Germany, because it automatically demonizes their enemies. In many ways, they indulge in precisely the same tactics that they decry, which I find rather humorous to be honest.

Edit: One more thing. This assumption that Hitler rose to power through purely legitimate means... isn't really accurate. It's fun to say, and it's an argument I've used myself on a few occasions, but it's not really true. Having your goon squads take advantage of social upheaval to actively harass, suppress, abduct, murder, or disband your opposition is by no means "legitimate". Which is precisely what Hitler and the Nazi party did. By the time they seized total power, they had basically destroyed, intimidated, or absorbed almost every opposition party through almost purely illegitimate means. Sure, their first steps were legal. But by the end, they had abandoned the constraints of the system and seized power with no more concern for legality than any other fascist coup.

There is, of course, a distinction between the arguable legitimacy of the Nazi takeover and the culpability of the average German citizen in the events that followed.

Man Raesvelg, why aren't you and me like best buddies?

I had to stop watching after the fucking "WE TORTURE PEOPLE" line.... in all honesty torturing them is a overstatement.... you know what happens when a terrorist gets a hold of you, the rip your nails out, they cover you in hot oil, that beat you, oh and they cut your head off with a butter knife, water boarding is a fucking vacation to what they do to people they kidnap/torture. and don't yell at me about the stupid HUMAN RIGHTS shit because im not going into it i'm done on this part of my post....

There is one thing i agree with though (AND IM NOT CALLING ANY ONE A NAZI/saying we are becoming nazi germany) If you do research you will discover alot of stuff we have done in the pass 20 years was done in Nazi Germany.

Every mirror is different but they all reflect the same thing....

It is good to be as learned as Raesvelg and as questioning as Dejavu.
And as sexy as me.

Although it is technically a documentary i dont believe that it was made as a documentary... It was a lecture that she gave with some video clips added for dramatic effect and supplement.

Also around 6:19 Part1; Sound bytes were leaping off pages.

WAT

THE

FUCK

Um... I think this was just her creative way of saying she was remembering and drawing parallels instantly when comparing the two.

Ah point conceded... i was wrong. I also believe that the woman who made the video is wrong as well because i do believe that a lot of the world is making some really bad decisions on this particular subject. The thing about being wrong tho is that i never pretended to be infallible or omniscient which somewhat proves my other point even better that even those who believe that they are informed are mistaken from time to time and the important thing is to ask questions and test theories. I agree that other countries to varying degrees are doing the exact same things as the US but the fact remains that the US seems to be the one who is running rather than walking in that direction.

They weren't stupid; they were ignorant, anti-semitic, and in some ways desperate. To a degree that nobody in the US can truly understand. Hitler had persuaded the Weimar Republic to suspend many fundamental rights well before the Nazis actually took control of Germany.

In what ways is the common person now more informed than in the days of nazi germany? Do you think that the idiot box has brought forth enlightenment and now we are not able to make mistakes?

This is somewhat the point that i was making for you above in that i am also not infallible and i am fairly confident that you are not either. I believe the bulk of our country right now is ignorant... i mean look at who we voted in for president. A man with extremely limited experience although extremely smart who believes that he can micromanage the whole world. Who was voted in by people who think that he is some kind of messiah. The funny thing about Hitler is that at the time a lot of his supporters thought he was a messiah as well (without the Jewish connotations of the word messiah of course).

There could have been some preexisting antisemitism in Germany much like there was all over the world at the time but that does not change the fact that the Jews were further demonized as a scapegoat for the events that happened around that time. Surprise surprise much like the Muslims in this country who quickly turned into Islamofascists so we couldn't be accused of hating an entire religion... no then we would be too much like Hitler.

Also do you really believe that people today are not desperate... Our current economic situation has put the entire country in the hands of 3 people out of desperation (Geithner, Obama and Bernanke) 2 of which you can make a case that they played a significant role in the crisis or even all 3 if you believe that Obama actually got anything done while he was in the senate.

The recovery from world war one may have started them down the path to Nazi Germany but the Flashpoint was a single event much like in the US. The Reichstag fire was the disaster that caused the fear for the legislation that was later possible for Hitler. It was not done as a deliberate coup but a strong leader taking control for safety of the common man. People tend to gravitate towards the person who claims to have the answers without necessarily checking if the answers are correct in the time of crisis.

Don't you find it odd at all that the only time that any really significant legislation gets passed is during a time of crisis because people are scared and willing to try anything.

Although i strongly disagree with this sentiment here is an observation from a past president on this idea.
"In any moment of decision, the best thing to do is the right thing, the second best thing is the wrong thing, the worst thing you could do is nothing" —Theodore Roosevelt

The first question is openly insulting, and as such, it will receive no further attention.

It's equally easier to reach the average American with propaganda, of course, but on the whole, we're both less trusting of the government by nature, and more importantly, we have considerably less reason to be swayed to extreme action.

We started 2 wars already specifically because we lost a few buildings... how is that a less extreme action?

The Patriot Act is not, for example, the Reichstag Fire Decree. And it's sure as hell not the Enabling Act.

Explain to me the differences please
http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig6/colmes2.html

The only difference that i know of is the fact that the enabling act gave Hitlers cabinet the express ability to ignore the Reichstag and write laws which the US can do already to a limited extent with executive orders, although that is frowned upon for the time being.

I mean hell Obama didn't even ask congress if it was ok to close Guantanamo but he did it anyways.

America as a whole was shocked on 9/11. But let's be honest for a moment. Not quite 3,000 people died on 9/11. Out of roughly 300 million people. So... were desperate but not quite desperate enough to be stupid yet... check.

Hitlers rise to power was legitimate. He changed the rules along the way as necessary to make sure that it appeared to be that way at least. Also who said that we were at the end of this road anyways... The question is will you still agree with your statements in 10 years.

Overall Raesvelg my question remains unanswered. What makes you today any different than the Germans of that time. What specifically makes it so that you are incapable of making as bad of decisions as they were? Internet, television, I would say books and newspapers but most of this country doesn't read anymore. Do our journalists write without agenda. Do we get all of the information from our government where as they were fed shit and kept in the dark? How do we know that we are not being lied to when history has shown us that governments have been capable of it so many other times?

I agree that other countries to varying degrees are doing the exact same things as the US but the fact remains that the US seems to be the one who is running rather than walking in that direction.

Given that the more contentious aspects of the Patriot Act and subsequent legislation have been defeated in court over and over again, how can you really say we're "running" towards fascism?
In what ways is the common person now more informed than in the days of nazi germany? Do you think that the idiot box has brought forth enlightenment and now we are not able to make mistakes?

Point in fact, to a degree it has. The internet makes it vastly easier for the average joe to find out anything he needs to know, and to express his opinion on anything he wants to say. Television is not owned by the state; it presents a wide variety of opinions, typically the majority of which oppose the sort of steps you say we're rushing down.

Really, we've got the government telling us that the Muslims are to blame for all our problems, and that we should take steps to remove them from positions of power, make sure that they're under control at all times, and oh, don't forget about those evil Communists, who also can't be trusted?

Really?

That's happening?

Or maybe the government has urged restraint, to not hate people just because they happen to share a religion with a bunch of nutjobs in the Middle East.

Also do you really believe that people today are not desperate... Our current economic situation has put the entire country in the hands of 3 people out of desperation

Three people and the entire Legislative Branch, you mean. Which, oddly enough, sounds an awful lot like our government.

The stimulus packages aren't executive orders, they're bills, going through the same process as any other bill, which is arguably part of the problem with them to many people, as the process by which they transit the Legislative branch makes them filled with about as much pork and wasteful spending as any other government bill. Which is to say, a lot. Then again, the real definition of pork barrel spending is simply a congressman looking out for his own electorate in the hopes of reelection, so I guess we can't complain too much.

The Reichstag Fire was presented as Hitler taking control for the safety of the common man.

I think it can be safely assumed, looking back on history, that the Nazis almost undoubtedly engineered the fire themselves to give them an excuse to eliminate the communists from the Reichstag. Which it did, since the Nazis has been successfully prosecuting an anti-Communist campaign for some time up until that point (it was a part of their platform, after all) and by keeping the communists out of the vote, it allowed Hitler to attain a majority in the Reichstag.

What it didn't do was give Hitler the supermajority he required to pass the Enabling Act. So, completely dispensing with legality at this point, he simply sent his goon squads out again, and through a variety of means (intimidation, murder, etc) made sure that the opposition parties in the Reichstag simply weren't around when the time came to vote, or understood that their lives depended on them voting "the right way".

So consider that, for a moment. A long succession of crises, blatant manipulation of the system, possibly as ripe a field for that manipulation as one can expect to see, and the Nazis still failed to achieve the powers they wanted legitimately.

Don't you find it odd at all that the only time that any really significant legislation gets passed is during a time of crisis because people are scared and willing to try anything.

Ummm... No, I don't find it odd at all. I find it predictable. Given the current leanings of the average economist in the United States, I find the current response to that crisis practically inevitable, as a matter of fact.

We started 2 wars already specifically because we lost a few buildings... how is that a less extreme action?

Realistically, what have those two wars cost the average citizen? There are places, to be sure, where their presence has been felt most keenly, but most people... They might know someone who knows someone who's been killed in the war. They might have an abstract appreciation for the cost involved.

There has been no general draft. There have been no biting financial measures to finance the wars. There has been no widespread mobilization of industry to meet the demands of the war. The average citizen has not had to become involved in the war. Think about it.

The only difference that i know of is the fact that the enabling act gave Hitlers cabinet the express ability to ignore the Reichstag and write laws which the US can do already to a limited extent with executive orders, although that is frowned upon for the time being.

/twitch.

The Enabling Act allowed the Chancellor to write any laws he chose, in defiance of the Constitution, and pass them without any interaction with the legislative branch of government.

And you can't see any difference between that and the Patriot Act?

REALLY?

A distinct difference regarding Executive Orders is that Congress can override them in a couple different ways. They can pass a law directly counter to the order, and it will take precedence, or they can simply refuse to fund the order. Alternately, they can challenge it in the courts and have it struck down that way.
Hitlers rise to power was legitimate. He changed the rules along the way as necessary to make sure that it appeared to be that way at least.

Changing the rules makes it illegitimate. His rise to prominence was certain done legally, taking control of the government was definitely not.

Overall Raesvelg my question remains unanswered.

No, I answered it, you're simply disputing my answer.

What makes you today any different than the Germans of that time.

I have a computer with internet access, a wide variety of news sources from which to draw, a vast and contentious free press that supplies those news sources, and a government with considerably less reason to try anything as risky as sending out squads of brownshirted thugs to throw the opposition party in jail.

Do our journalists write without agenda.

Of course not. And most of that agenda is precisely counter to the sort of measures that would be necessary to complete this nightmare scenario you think is so likely.
Do we get all of the information from our government where as they were fed shit and kept in the dark?

Relatively speaking, yes.
How do we know that we are not being lied to when history has shown us that governments have been capable of it so many other times?

Lied to about what? Is there secretly legislation under way to abolish the Constitution and place supreme power in the hands of the President? Do you seriously think that that level of conspiracy is even possible in this country?

That smacks of the idiots who continue to insist that the whole 9/11 incident was engineered by the government, and that two empty airliners flown by crack military pilots struck the World Trade Center, while a missile struck the Pentagon, and another airliner was shot down by military jets. Bear in mind that the first three jets were landed, and their passengers (and the planes themselves) "disappeared" somehow. But don't worry, the conspiracy which must by definition involve thousands of people remains perfectly airtight.

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." - George Santayana

Fixed this one for ya.

So because they do worse to us (which I'm not going to argue) it is okay for us to do what we want to them because it is not very torturous by comparison... is that really the argument that you are making. That is like stealing 20 bucks out of the offering plate at church and saying at least i didn't take the whole plate. Sure you can do worse but what you are doing is still bad.

No, 20 bucks is not life and death your argument there is invalid. Stealing and killing are two different things. I'm sorry to make some out of there comfort zone to get information out of them is not considered torture... if you really want see some one get tortured... go find those videos of terrorists cutting that guys head off with a fucking knife...... bet you he would be yelling at you too. Its really black and white here.... save multiple lives for one person who actually most likley Killed American soldiers/plotted to kill 'you'. Or let him go, build a car bomb, drive it up to a U.S bases gate and be like "oh hi your out of gitmo bay?" *BOOM* It has happend........ i really dont see how people can be so ignorant....
