The Future of QCDN

Sculli explain to me, by what you meant...

You don't care if you lose traffic? Wow man, now that shows awesome commitment and willingness to, really keep us coming back, and keep us with QCDN, I'm sorry but by you saying that... it really kinda deters me from the forum, and kinda confuses me how you could say that :/

Now go ahead and post about how it wouldnt matter if I left, which it prolly wouldnt but I'm sure there are others who think the same... but really why did you say that ?

To make QCDN a happy forum that the server loves and everyone can happily goto in unity. It's a very noble goal, really, but y'just can't go and make an entire server happy. Column (a) loves that a FB is gone, column (b) wants it back. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. =/

With that idea though really Ish :/ he's getting a more negative response now that the FB is gone, when it was there no one really said this much about it, or complained this much...

cause the drama kings/queens that loved the FB have lost their purpose for comming here.

Throughout this entire Flameboard removal process I have seen countless refrences to the abscence of self moderation as one of the primary contributors to it's passing. I would ask where is the accountability as it relates to a persons ability to moderate themself from even entering the late Flameboard? The ToS pulled no punches and made no promises. Numerous people have come foreward with confessions of nothing short of bleeding eyes and permanant psychological damage as a result of the FB. I would query them, why were you even in there if you know that what the ToS described was not your personal niche? As far as I know entering www.qcdn.org has never directed you to a forced 45 minute viewing of the Flameboard. Was it a blight upon the face of QCDN? I say thee nay! As many times as anyone can say, "There was nothing but one-liners, toilet humor, and pwned pictures on the FB" I can say, "Why did you continue to look?" Malcom McDowell, I think not.

The FB has been crucified for not living up to a promise it never made in the first place. I've seen, "The FB never yielded any resolutions," when did it ever purport to do such? For my part here at QCDN, 18 months or so I think, I've looked to the FB for a resolution only twice, during the two months that Cubs placed a Political topic as a sticky at the top and a handful of us would battle it out. I know that political topics can still be discussed in Reality Sinks In, and will continue to debate with fellow posters on such topics as we can fit them between, "I cut my labia shaving today" and "Cumshot art."

The allure of QCDN, to me, has never been solely the FB. It has, and will continue to be, interacting with fellow players from our server in a non-charater-limited enviroment. Granted, the same can still be done sans the FB, however I forsee the community the removal of the nefarious FB strives to protect dwindling greatly.

I want to repeat some points I made on deleted threads, because I'm not sure I ever got an answer to it. In my personal opinion... this sight has served me well and for free. I have never considered this place as a right (although, that is the problem with free things that last a long time...eventually people assume it is a right)... I'm not paying for it. I am willing to work with the new rules, but it comes down to understanding the new rules. And as long as Sculli is taking opinions...

If I understand things as they are, the new rules are designed to keep people from stating their disagreements with each other because these disagreements tended to boil down to name calling and rarely ever were resolved. However, because we are still human and will always disagreements, we have the neighborhood watch to list, it seems to me, people who have chronic problems with being...disagreeable?

I have read and reread the rules and standards, but it seems like there is a general.. obscurity.. as to what the ultimate intention is going to be here. "Offensive Material..." is very subjective unless enumerated because even the Supreme Court seems to have a hard time describing it, saying "I know it when I see it" (Jacobellis v. Ohio...not full quote I know). And the whole concept of "Flaming..." being difficult to feel out because, people will take "clearly insulting" differently.

Case in point, The Neighborhood Watch, in my opinion, is suffering from people not knowing what they can or cannot do. But the problem is how much proof is required before a thread will do any good, because honestly...how many people expect to be scammed, harrassed or what have you? "Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition." Unless you are running FRAPS or what have you, how will you have proof of your words, and if you have no proof, then it is a contest of who's argument is better or has a better reputation. And it is in that "argument" where the old flames used to grow. But without those debates over the facts, how valuable will simply stating the accusation become?

What I would like to see is something to the effect of "thread warnings," listing in clear words what the subject is lacking, needs adding, or what have you--somethign I notice E.leibfrid is starting to do. If a person is only on the edges of the new rules, a statement of "more proof" or "being an inexperienced player is not a valid argument" before the thread is locked or a user is penalized will help people finally get the hang of the new rules, and leastwise understand them. If nothing else it will demonstrate IF this is the new home of the "mod nazi" or not.

Alot of people used the FB to vent, and joke about it later. Alot of topics there have semi-derailed into VERY nice discussions, even if some people tossed an insult or two around. Outside the FB, I've only seen two topics grow into something that would be 10 pages or more, one being the Illegal Immigration discussion, the other being on the hurricane floodings (which I believe got moved to the FB in the end just because people were losing their temper every now and then)

The best thing about the FB was the randomness. That had the greatest potential to break into a great topic. Technically, anything non-game based that would've gone in the FB could into into Reality Sinks In, but the second someone gets upset and starts saying some insults then the topic would risk getting closed because that's against the RSI rules, thus the potential to become a good debate/discussion is deneuted instantly.

I also enjoyed hearing people's stories about religion, or a bad day, or an accident, because I can -relate-. Everyone can. It's something everyone was able to give feedback in. No one can say "Oh I don't know what religion is, I'm gonna avoid this topic." or something like that...it let everyone participate. Stuff like that was what I'd call a successful community thread.

And now the potential for another is dead. Unless we goto the RSI section and start a random discussion on something and really water down our personal views on stuff.

I don't really understand what's the problem with QCNN being discussed.
It's another thing to say, "Hey leave this dump and head to my site."
We are allowed to discuss other sites like Mysterytour, Alla, Somepage, etc here, so....If it's just discussion and not recruiting, that's ok right?

I registered on the new site, but do not intend to stop view QCDN or posting here. QCDN has new rules, and I can try and keep with the times and fit in here. Time will prove how much time I spend on any one site.

Of the avid posters/visitors to the FB, the vast majority did not make that their purpose of signing on to QCDN.

I would admit that the people that ONLY came for that one purpose will not be missed.

It'll take a lot more than that. ^^

Is it just me or, now that the Flameboard is gone, people have started realising there are other forums and posting a lot more in them? Perhaps I'm just hallucinating.

No, there won't always be, or you'll be removed from the forum. A personal belief that there will always be flames is going to get you nothing but a ticket out of here real quick. There will always be flames? I guess in the sense that they'll always pop up.

But there will always be mods and I for one will mark flames. So problem solved. Right now it's up to the admin and mods to draw their lines where they see fit for the board. There will be lines, though, that you will not cross without having your comments deemed unfit for public display.

You know pere, i really never had any problems with you up until now. Quit with the holier then thou attitude, especially when you were one of the biggest contributors to the flameboard. You are in no position to police anyone. You keep talking about trolls and thread crappers, when you were one of the biggest ones out there. Look at your post history. In another thread, you claimed you purposely attempted to derailed threads (if i could find the quote i would post it).

by the way, this is not a flame. this is me being warm and fuzzy. Everything said in the post has merit and data to back it up. (well, had data until the fb was deleted). Crap, i guess i cant prove any of what i just said as there is no flameboard w/ pere's post anymore. /sigh.. im gonna get banned.

This could be due, in part, to General Discussion being full of useful info on the new expansion. I did notice that since the new forums were listed, even before active, and the FB was bumped lower on the list, GD had an average of 35-40 viewing whereas the FB has 15-20. At least every time I looked.

PS: The writeups from Jentheultimate and Khali should be stickied at least until the next maintenance.

I would be willing to bet that the flameboard would have dozens of posts about BLU PUP or COR sucking because its a new job...or general other crap. I think its probably the expansion like vondoom said.

Also Peregrine thats a pretty hypocritical statement as you were the first person to initiate a flame(ish) post against someone. You leaving?

This post is directed entirely at Sculli.

I'm sorry if this has been asked before; there's been too many posts on the topic for me to follow. Ahem...

Why? Is there some penultimate reason behind all the recent changes?
  • Is it to attract better advertisements, therefore more income, therefore better contests?
    • If so, a few snazzy contests are hardly worth the downfall in traffic I foresee. I loved QCDN before contests; I could definitely live without them if it would return this place to it's original state.
  • Is it to attract better ads, more income, to support the new webhost / bandwidth requirements?
  • Is it because you don't like spearheading something that may tarnish your name? Does this reflect negatively on you as a web admin?
  • Is it due to personal reasons; i.e. you don't like spearheading something with an ugly side?
I never saw a need for changes prior to your decision. Maybe this black cloud over QCDN will pass and I'll begin to enjoy it again, but for the time being I feel like I'm under martial law.

That's right. But Peregrine is not pathetic, he is merely "acting" pathetic.

(again, just illustrating a point...I think some leniency is called for until the wrinkles are ironed out. Obviously nobody is actually trying to start things, but rather just work out some details)
