lol, i been in qcdn longer then you have. just because i joined another sight doesn mean i wont come to this one. I suppose if you participate or use KI or ala, i should refer to you as 'you KI folks'.

That’s over exaggerating to make your point. Decency to a fellow person should not be so foreign a concept. Saying whatever assy thing that comes from your internet amnesty mind shouldn’t be openly embraced. No matter what is said I believe there are repercussions for how you treat people. It’s “foolish” to think it’s all fun n games to belittle anyone.

If people really wanted to do away the FB so much, why do 90% have a majority of the posts in the FB? If you had felt it was so detrimental to the community, you should have stopped posting. If I wanted to boycott a porn shop or strip joint because it lessens the value of the neighborhood, I don't use it's services and then complain it's a problem. You send one message with your posts which suggests to everyone that your behaviour is ok and then you say the opposite, that the FB is inappropriate and detrimental to the community. Really, which side are you on? Or parhaps you are just a bandwagoner? I just want the people who are complaining about it and used it regularly to shut up. Damn hypocrites.

I don't even know if you could consider this a flame. On one hand, I am stating hurtful words inciting comtempt from my fellow members, but on the other hand, my words are entirely truthful. The truth hurts. No matter how you candy coat it, people are always going to be hurt. People will always take offense to it even if it's the truth. So why not have a place where people can take out these angry words without worrying about reprisals from admins or mods? We could call it the Flame Board even... And to keep the FB from spreading to other areas, we could have admins willing to do what it takes to keep the content of the FB in the FB. That doesn't mean slapping people's wrists, it means banning and read only access when rules are broken. No exceptions.

There you go. So long as you're happy with that contribution. But again, I don't know how I sound happy fuzzy or how I sound like I'm holding anyone's hand. And it's arguably making a lot of people cry (read: post a lot of lamentation). But oh well. You've got it, and that's what matters even if it's sarcastic at least you show you know.

I am not rating posts. I am just saying that some of those who lament the depature of the FB do so because it did have readworthy content, could provide that content elsewhere on QCDN. I can't provide stuff that is worth reading, regardless of what each individual member considers "worthy".

Because it's true.
Last month there were over 11k unique IP addresses used to access QCDN (not counting search engine spiders). Reduce that by a number of people who access QCDN from different IPs due to (work, school, home, dial-up, etc), you still end up with more readers than registered posters.
There were people who simply read the FB and likely not much else. The FB generated a lot of traffic, that's no secret.

Much of that traffic will now be lost since there is no FB and since other areas of QCDN won't make up for the lost drama. The reason I am fine with that is because I rather have a harder time to keep this site running with fewer users, posts, and reader, than have an easier time but "buy" that easier time by allowing one to be a prick to someone else.

You (as in the general QCDN populace) didn't want QCDN to run off of gil seller ads because you believe that gil sellers have a negative impact on the game. I don't want QCDN to run off of revenue that was largely generated through a QCDN feature that encouraged users to be pricks to each other. I also do no longer provide a venue where users can be pricks to each other. That's why I won't miss the FB generated traffic.

Now that is the best thing said on the subject over the past few days.

I am curious why, now that there is an alternative outlet, people are still going round and round on the subject. The Flame board is gone, if that was the only thing that you all feel ever made this site worthwhile then it should no longer be worth your time to post here, yet you still do. Some of you obviously care about something more than the flameboard or you would have left already.
 
Well a splinter website... I've been on the internet for ten years and seen this many times. There will be some interesting times for the next few months when both sites finally get their own course :)

Well it seems to me Sculli, that you shoulda said something more direct shouldnt you have? like... 'I don't care if I lose traffic due to the removal of the FB' or something like that, unless you did, and I just missed it... and I'm speaking of before this post

I miss the flameboard but being on QCDN to harass people doesn't help me interact with my friends on Quezty that i have no other way of talking to outside ls.

What else could the site have been made for?
 
I'm not sure whether anyone else has noticed, but the number of posts (and especially the number of threads) on the General board has jumped by a huge number since the flameboard closed.

Most are useful as well...
 
If I may...

If I may make one small observation and/or suggestion:

Considering we are all human beings, and as has been said before, thrive on insulting and demeaning others while laughing if not directly participating, I have a new twist; Make the Site valuable. Not that it doesn't have some pourpose now, but, if even half the people that logged on the site, stopped to ask themselves this question:

"Hmm, I wonder what I can accomplish in-game today?"

You will have a plethera of answers ranging from "I can have fun with my friends!" to "I can insult some new player in Lower Jeuno!". Now, this is just my opinion here, but I think there is a way to make the Forums about 110% more helpful and productive with the addition of one small section.

"Events, Missions, Guides, and MORE!"

Ok, so we have something like that already, fine. They don't cut it. I'm not talking a place where people post "Zomg, Get me stuffs!", I propose we start work on a Database. And expansive, tested, verified, and openly debated infomation base, pertaining to everything one might want to know about the game that someone else already figured out, but didn't go out of their way to spoon feed it to ya! ^-^

Now someone is gonna say "Thats what Ala/Mystery/and KI are for!", and I will retort with "They suck Teh Gooch!" Most are based on some 15 year olds guess about something he heard or saw one time(Ala) or are simply not thourgh enough to be useful past a "Rough Idea".

Now I'm not saying we should re-write everything that has been written, I'm simply saying we can/should start an information gathering team. Said group would start from Subjob items guide, and finish with ToU. All we need to do, is gather referances (Ie a Valid site with ACCURATE information) and simply insert links refering from your guide to the site.

Example: How to I build Jeuno Fame? Someone who has done said Selbina repeatable quest writes a 5-10 min guide, refering to FFXIatlas for maps, MT for Item discription, and even another existing guide they may know of for even more info. But the catch would be ACCURACY, CLARITY, and EASE OF ACCESS. None of which are easily found by someone that wants to get back on the game and continue what they are doing.

THIS, I think, would be the next biggest draw to the Forums short of the damn FB. I don't know anyone who, on their own, can gather all needed info for everything they are attempting to do, without doing like I did, and kiiling a small rain forest off my work PC. I would kill to know, "Hey, lemme check QCDN for this CoP mission guide" or "What Level is that NM again?", would acctually be of some general benifit to the community. Alot of work? not really, Alot of time? Not if we have people interested. Do-able? I think so.

Sure, some people may say "I'm good enough, I don't need that info." Prob gonna come from the same person that says "Hey, which way do I face for HQ on earth!?!"

But asalways, I don't get payed to think, so I will leave this with: I thought it would be nice to have available.

Deathdealer, thanks for your suggestions. I am activly looking into it as this is something that has been mentioned a few times in the recent past.
I am currently a bit preoccupied with work and other stuff, but I expect to add such a feature by the end of this month.
 
I think you are way too optimistic deathdealer. Mysteryyour in my experience is very effective and gets updated quite frequently. To try and copy that would not only likely fail due to this being a forum and not a website for information (not to mention the fact we would need to start from scratch) but other sites do it better.

Tbh the only thing we actually did better than anyone else was bitch. And whether you like it or not that was what made us different and if you do not like that difference then you must accept being one of the crowd.
 
Its funny that this thread is ranked terrible and the "Majority" sooo agreed with this change. Its also funny that Cubs thread got more support then this.

Its funny though that someone like you (deny it as much you will) Would listen to someone who would say "Having a baby is no excuse..." and would charge 1M to a person for a simple coffer and key that I got within 10 Min's for no charge cause this is what I and we as players do for each other for the most part. Now I know that my role on QCDN is not a major role or is any one single person is either, but to ignore the masses and listen to someone who couldn't pull himself away from the game for a min even if he could.

I'll give you thanks for what you have done for this site and for us on Quetzalcoatl, but you have to remember that we are Quetzalcoatl and not you. So be it as it may we are this site and not you, Yes you do run it but thats all you do and to ignore this... us is to turn your back on us who made this site what it is. I'll continue to help every person that I can that post and needs help, but I will no longer support someone who wants or gets a thrill in trying to rule over other ppl to try too increase his E-PENNIS.

So this is my public request for a refund and my public disapproval of the way this site is turning out.

I don't care who agrees with me or not this is what I think of the "future" of QCDN and its ok that you are trying to sell out cause after all money is money.
