So I have now been unemployed for two months. I have applied for countless jobs online, via applications, and resumes. What annoys me more than anything is the online applications that ask you all kinds of questions to figure out if your a smart person or if you have ethics or common sense. I wish I didn't have to do it for every job. There should be a uniform job application process so that you can just auto fil your information. I know I'm dreaming but I needed to complain. And since the dog just looks at me I figured I would vent to you all.

Anyone else annoyed by this. And it's not just the process, some of the questions are silly. I just had one if I had smoked pot in the last 90 days. Like anyone is gonna acutally answer yes.

I hate trying to find a job. It does get redundant and maddening to have to fill out a lot of the same information over and over again. It also sucks when you know that you have the qualifications that they listed and you still don't get the job. Good luck on your search.

Right there with you. I'm very thankful I have the job that I do, but it's only 20 hours a week and I've done about everything I can within the scope of the position.

Been seeking for almost a year now, to pretty much the same effect.

They're called résumés, lol.

By law, they are required to answer truthfully. If a pre-employment drug test were to show it and the person answered "no", it is automatically grounds for not hiring the person. If he answered "yes" though, he might still be considered (unlikely, but more likely than if he'd lied in the first place).

Yeah the job search sucks but don't get disheartened. I finally got a decent job after doing a lot of temp work, and I'm looking at the possibility of transferring to another branch office sometime in the near future, so it does happen, albeit not always right away.

My biggest pet peeve is the companies that still require you to hand write out an application when all the information they are asking for is already neatly printed in your resume. Frustrates the hell out of me. It's like here, let me spend all this time making this organized, thorough document with all the information you need so that I can spend a half hour rewriting it out for you. :rtfm:

Good luck with the search. Hope something good comes up for you to make all the frustrations seem a little more worth it.

That is fucked up and I hate it too.

Yeah I have had to do that several time already. I have been called in for an interview only to arrive and have to fil out an application. And the thing about the drug question is even if you answer no and you do fail a drug test you not gonna get hired not just cause you lied but because you failed the drug test. Which reminds me this one I just did said they do hair testing and I'm like Hmmm all the time spent with my pot smoking friends might be bad. I don't know how hair samples work I gotta check on that (no I didn't smoke with them which hasn't caused me problems in the past so I'm betting I'm still safe)

And back to the applications....

i know how that is i spent 4 years in the military with a bachelors degree in Radiological Specialty aka i was an Xray tech. after i got out couldn't find a job in that field around my hometown luckily for me i also have a background is construction, metal fabrication, and hydraulic mechanic. 2 and half year degree now sits nice and pretty on my wall. luckily for metal fabrication and such there really isn't any applications most places you go to ask you to display what you know via a hands on test like fitting together a test piece thats slightly intricate with non common angles and such or a visual welding test. this is really nice because you are allowed to show off what you know before hand which makes it easier to get a job. where i live i will pretty much never go without a job just for the sheer fact of the number of large companies that are always looking for new hands from the sheer volumne of work around this area

Come live in Alberta! You can't turn a corner without seeing "Now Hiring, training included!"

HAI ILLY!
And I know the feeling sort of. My girlfriends been looking for a job for 2 months now too and she has to sit there fill out these apps and wait to get no responses. I on the other hand went out to get a p/t job to make up the lost wages and got one delivering pizza in like a week.
GL on your job hunt :)

Hey BB... I wondered where you been. Working two jobs it seems lol.

Well funny story. So the job I was applying for that asked the 90 day drug question acutally called me in for an interview yesterday and I got offered the job so long as I passes a drug test. Ok NP right... except its not a piss test... it's a hair test. So after they chopped a section out of my hair and all that stuff I have for 24 hours been wondering if I'm screwed. I don't smoke pot I only did once like 7 years ago. I do however have some pot smoking friends who smoke pot when I'm around. I have only been around them smoking twice in the last 3 months or so but about 3 months ago I did X once and for like the whole month before that I was at my friends all the time and smoked pot daily. Anyone know how screwed I am? Also they gave me an employee guide and the Drug policy gave a list of what is considered detectable concentrations so I'm hoping I might squeak by but if anyone is a science person please explain what Cannabinoids 50NG/ML means...

It sounds like there's nothing you can do about it now since they got the hair. All I can say is good luck! Given what you said it's hard not to worry about it but try not to worry. I have no idea what Cannabinoids is. >.>

Just wanted to let everyone know I acutally did get the job. Started on Saturday.
