So, today I decided that this would be the day I trek from Gridania to the 2 other cities, and perhaps Ishgard. I asked the LS what direction I should go in, and they say to just follow the path; and so I did. This led me on the longest walk, it was like a 3 hour promyvion mission.
I left on the aforementioned path, stopping at whatever camps I happened to pass. Eventually in Coerthas, I get taken down by a condor (wtf?). Warping back to camp, I see there's two other people, so I asked them if I could join them. They let me come along, and turn out to be very nice (I expected the could shoulder that I get so often when asking random people for a hand). Together we make our way to the gate of Ishgard, only to find that we're not allowed access yet.
As you can imagine this was a tad disheartening, but our original mission was to get to the main cities anyway, plus we now had access to camp dragonhead, so when Ishgard became available, it'd be easy to get there. I knew Takumifujiwara had made this trek before (not quite as long and dangerous though) so I decided to ask him what direction I had to go in. He said I should make my way to Thanalan, which of course was nowhere on the map. My newfound friends and I decided to go to a zone we saw in the south, which lead to Nor Dhona.
This was a really neat place, but also a very dangerous one. Mobs there included but were not limited to: basilisks, bombs, arimahns, wild hogs, and ogres. Also, upon zoning in there was a really neat visage, something that reminded me of the openning movie (click here to see it). At the time I zoned in, we were waiting for somebody to catch up to us so I tried to wrap my head around what I was seeing. Not hard, but I couldn't figure out why (watch the openning movie if you don't know what I mean).
So, We see at the very bottom of the area, there's a zone in to Thanalan (yay!). It was a longer walk than I expected, but it was really neat too. At the time we zoned in to Thanalan we'd lost one guy due to RL obligations, but I know that won't be the only time I see the guy. The rest of our trek was rather bland, so I'll spare you the details. As I type this I'm on a boat taking me to the last of the three cities.
So, having done all that, I have these things to say:
- If you enjoyed the perils of navigating CoP areas in FFXI (before they were made easy), you'll like doing this, and most likely will succeed.
- It's totally worth doing this journey, if only to the other two main cities just so you can have access to 12 guild leves per rank range instead of 4
- A lot of the sight based monsters I ran into were very near sighted. If you find yourself in a tight situation, you may be able to escape it by passing a sight based mob not far from directly in front of it.
- Watch out for the condor type mobs, apparently they like to aggro us now ^^
My thanks to Tagas and Silverayne for bring me along
PS- Sorry I'm not as eloquent or funny as some of the other bloggers ^^;
