Today I got to witness something that very few people get an opportunity to see. I got a front row seat as the last two F-14 squadrons came back from deployment. They now stand to be decomisioned. Considering how they are a piece of American lore, i.e. Topgun, I felt very privaleged to see it and I gota tell you it was quit a rush.

But, they cant take away the F-14! Who will fly at airshows to "Highway to the Dangerzone"?

They will still be flowen at air shows by plane collectors, but they won't be used as combat aircraft anymore.

I wonder how much one has to fork out for an F-14 ..., and how much gas that thing burns ... ouch.

Sarcasm man, sarcasm.

I'm the new jet fighter.

F-14 are VERY VERY VERY high maintance (I think I spelled it right). The U.S. forces have been trying to get a suitable and more cost effective replacement. I've heard of a jet called 'The Raptor'. I dunno if it is actually in use as of now, but I think the U.S. Air Force is the current holder for the aircraft. F-14's are pretty neat...but I like the F-15's better. They can hover and take-off vertically!

Well now that they are on the road to being decommissioned, pull out all of your old pepsi points and you can probably get one now. Just ell them, instead of the Harrier I'll take an F-14 lol.

Umm... ok where do I start...

The "Raptor" you're referring to is the F-22 and yes it's a U.S. Air Force aircraft. It has stealth capabilities and a much more conventional aircraft.

The only aircraft currently in use with V/STOL is the AV-8B Harrier wich is used by the Marines. An F-15 is like an F-14 except it's used by the Air Force.

Btw F-14 is a Navy jet.

Edit:O yeah the F-14 is being replaced with the F/A-18 Superhornet

The poster was probably thinking of the XF-35B

I'm just kidding I used to go to air shows all the time as a kid but kinda forgot all the stuff i used to know. The F-14 was bad ass, but definitely aged.
