When you get what you want in your struggle with self and the world makes you king for a day, just go to the mirror and look at yourself and see what the man has to say.

For it isn't your father or mother or wife whose judgment upon you must pass, the person whose verdict counts most in life is the man starring back from the glass.

Some people might call you a straight shouting chum and think you’re a wonderful guy, but the man in the glass says you’re only a bum if you can't look him straight in the eye.

He is the fellow to please, never mind all the rest for he is with you clear up to the end, but you've passed your most dangerous, difficult test if the man in the glass is your friend.

You may fool the whole world down the pathway of years and get pats on the back as you pass, but your final reward will be heartache and tears if you've cheated the man in the glass.

I like very much. No truer words could have been spoken.

Did you write this?

Very nice. I'll be greatly impressed if you've written it yourself.

If not, who's the author? Haven't read that one before.

I think this sums up pretty much all of humanity really. It is true pretty much with any religion. Even for myself as someone who isn't really religious in the traditional sense, I still feel like integrity is important and I have to be able to look at myself in the mirror.

Nice read, its something that kind of articulates what I've thought for some time.

sounds like an afterschool special...or something you'd hear in some lame high school seminar

That's some deep shit.

Just minimal research it sounds like its really titled The Guy in the Glass and was written by Dale Wimbrow. No idea how valid it is, did see that info from multiple sources though.

Also...whats with the David Bowie avatars...

He's hot. Need more be said??

I like this poem. Like I said no truer words have been spoken, and it's a damn good way to go through life. If you can't look yourself in the mirror and be happy with what you see, you're doing it wrong.

I got this poem in rehab. BTW 6 months sober and counting. Life just keeps getting better too.

When I was drinking I never looked in the mirror.

Congratulations!!

It's a rough hurdle as far as I understand and I'm glad to hear you are happy with the new/old you.

Keep it up ;p

It's a very inspirational poem, and like I said good words to live by.

The only problem I have with the man in the glass is his starting-to-recede hairline. Other than that hes a cool guy. :)

I grew up with this poem on my wall... in a mirrored picture frame. Very true.

The man in the glass and I are on speaking terms.

But only just.
