They won't give Bahamut, my guess is Phoenix.

They won't give phoenix for the same reason as Bahamut

Hope this helps.

In an interview by Final Fantasy XI producer Hiromichi Tanaka with the popular Japanese electronic gaming magazine Famitsu, some interesting information was provided. A news item on GameSpot has info about the mention of a new MMORPG in development, by one of Tanaka's development teams:

In an interview published in the latest issue of Famitsu magazine, Final Fantasy XI producer Hiromichi Tanaka disclosed that his development team is currently working on a new massively multiplayer role-playing game for next-generation consoles.

Tanaka declined to comment on whether the MMORPG in development will be a successor to FFXI or a new product. He did confirm that the technical demonstration shown for the Xbox 360 during E3 was one of the experiments his development team had created to see what kind of graphics a next-generation console could achieve.

Tanaka also disclosed that the Xbox 360 edition of FFXI will sport graphics of a quality similar to the currently available PC version of FFXI. However, he added that the development team is seeing if the Xbox 360 can display graphics for about twice the distance than the Windows version.

The game's beta test is slated to begin simultaneously with the launch of the Xbox 360 later this year. Similarly to the Windows beta, the Xbox 360's beta test will be conducted on servers separate from the rest of the FFXI world. One of the main objectives for the Xbox 360 version's beta testing is to see if there are any problems with the game's network environment, since this will be the first time Xbox Live will be allowing a connection from an external system.
Further information is provided from GameIndustry.biz, including the possibility of a PS3 version of FFXI, assuming Sony puts a hard drive standard in the next generation console:

On the massively multiplayer side of things, FFXI producer Hiromichi Tanaka was equally evasive - admitting that his team is working on a new MMORPG for next-generation platforms, but declining to give any further details. He did, however, admit that the tech demo shown off at Microsoft's pre-E3 conference was one of the team's experiments with next-gen graphics, which tends to suggest that Xbox 360 is seen as a target platform for the game.

One might reasonably expect PlayStation 3 to be the other target platform, but Tanaka seems perturbed by rumblings from Sony which suggest that the hard drive may not be included as standard with the console.

He told Famitsu that he was surprised to hear that Sony is considering shipping without a hard drive, saying that unless broadband connections are suddenly upgraded to fibre optic speeds, the PS3 will need a hard drive in order to support the kind of character development required by massively multiplayer games.
Other reports based on this interview provide more, possibly accurate information about the development for FFXI. In CVG Online, it is mentioned that there will be new jobs and possibly spells added.

According to Tanaka-san, there will be new spells, new jobs, and a whole bunch of other additional content in the game, as well as double the draw distance of the current PC version. A beta test is said to be starting soon too, though how exactly this is going to work without lots of Xbox 360s is as yet undisclosed.
This is mentioned as well in the XboxAddict news account of the interview:

Hiromichi-san claimed that the 360 version will offer a draw-distance twice that of the PC version, and will feature an assortment of new content such as jobs and the possibility of new Summon magic spells.
Any possible additions of jobs or spells are no doubt features that will be provided in Final Fantasy XI's bi-monthly patches or the currently unnamed expansion. It is highly unlikely that there would be such additions to the Xbox 360 version specifically, given the stated desire by Square-Enix to keep the content as similar as possible across the platforms.

and of course me being the idiot I am ill own both consoles. You can never have to many ways to play FFXI. The only problem I have is that XBOX will clean up this time. I say this because of this artical on PS3 (Asshat Sony wants to ship PS3 without a hard drive).

$300: PS3

$100: PS3 Harddrive w/FFXI (name uknown)

$15/month: For POL

Spending yet another year lvling a new job: Pirceless

Meh, so far it's all rumour, and mostly outdated at that. We'll know more about the HD in a few months, so people need to stop getting their knickers in a twist over it.

If you bought the PS3 version, or even the 360 version, you should still be able to use your current characters. All of the information about your character is server-side, I believe, so you would log in to your pol account like normal, just via different means.

The only bad thing is that, as soon as new jobs come out everyone will be in the dunes leveling bluemage or w/e. Finding a party there will probably be very hard.

I don't see why they'd make new jobs before they fix the current balance issues with the ones they've already got.

That's why I have my own personal Mithra WHM who power levels me
whenever I want her to.

Just call me "Mithraslaver Debhabob" ...

Wait... That's the Orc NM in Dynamis - Beaucedine... Nevermind.

Anyway, If there really are new jobs, I pray to GOD Blue Mage
(Or "BLU" as I call it) is one of them...

Throughout the ENTIRE HISTORY OF FINAL FANTASY, Blue Mage
as a Job Class has only appeared 3 Times.

1: "Final Fantasy 5" for SNES
2: "Final Fantasy 7", not the job itself, but "Enemy Skill" materia is technically the same thing Blue Magic.
3: "Final Fantasy Tactics Advance" for GBA as a full-fledged class again.

Blue Mage was so awesome... IMHO it was one of the only jobs that
could actually stack up to Black Mage as far as mage quality goes...

Think of a Red Mage on Crack. It's one of those jobs where depending on
how you raise it, it can be really awesome, or really shitty.

I hope they port this job... They can't really bring in "Time Mage" as a
job because all the key Time Mage spells can be learned by other mages.

"Slow", "Bind", "Slowga", "Haste", "Hastega", "Gravity", and "Meteor"
(which is an enemy only skill, right?)

SMNs have Meteorite, that's the only kind of Meteor I've ever seen.

Meh, SE has had lots of years of experience by each of the companies by themselves, they can invent new spells for Time Mage, I certainly think it's very doable. Something like an uber stun could work.

I've never seen this suggested before, but what if they make like upgrades to our current jobs? Like a Dancer instead of BRD, a Necromancer instead of SMN, a Blood Mage, instead of BLM, Berserker for WAR... that's all I can think of now... Pirate for THF?

Besides DRG what lacks ? Seems pretty even par to me for job usage among the others.

Most likely the appropriate thing would be give the names that jobs have
for their AF to these advanced jobs.

But I don't think "Dancer" would work for Bard. They did that in both
"Final Fantasy Tactics", and "Ragnarok Online".

Esentially, they were the SAME job. But only had different costumes and
were gender specific. Any "Dancer" was a female. And all Bards were
males. Which makes more sense because by definition, a Bard is a male.

... But yeah, I suppose "Black Mage" could become "Sorceror", "Thief"
could become "Assassin"... "Monk" would be "Melee" I guess... Not sure
about "Ninja" and "Samurai" becomming "Koga" and "Saotome", though.

ummm...

People like to forget him/her/it but Quina in ff9 was most definately a blue mage. Also wasnt Gau in 6 basically a blue mage? (I'm taking blue mage to mean literally absorbing enemy abilities...)

But yeah time mage is already split up among the other jobs, I cant see that as a separate job.

[Phoenix] [Yes, Please]

Honestly I don't see a huge problem with the current classes as they are. Its been several years most of the tweaking is likely done with. Of course some stuff is gonna adapt in time but what *major class breaking issues* are there? <_<;

4: Strago from "Final Fantasy 6"
5: Quistis from "Final Fantasy 8"
6: Quina from "Final Fantasy 9"

The list does go on.

I'd be all for Blue Mage as a new job, since it would add more strategy to the game, especially if they learn abilities that have chances of backfire/suicide, like Goblin/Moblin abilities.

I think what stinks is, any new jobs/summons they are working on... any speculation is now moot. They're already being worked on, so they won't change something in the process.

I do think we'll see Phoenix though. It's different then Bahamut, and would be able to cover the few bases that SMN can't handle except through their subjob.

When I say different then bahamut, Phoenix can be small enough to use in a pt. :P

Phoenix would offer SMN their own raise outside light elemental, as well as some nifty hp/mp regen abilities. Two things the job could really use.

The only problem would be that... it'd be a hard ass smn to get, of course, and people would expect you to have it for the mp regen as soon as the BP comes.

Well I would be ruining CoP story if I told you the problem with getting Phoenix XD I dunno, we'll see
