Hey guys I think I'm about ready to punch a friggin wall cause of the old man...

And we all know which old man I'm talking about, thats right: Maat.

I have fought him many MANY times now (more times then i would care to admit actually) and every time its because he somehow resists my sleeps. And I dont know why. I have some pretty decent gear:

Full AF, Black Cloak, Penitents Rope, Spider Torque, standard Int rings, Druid Slops, I use melon pies+1 yag juice and all of my Skills are capped.

I'm a lvl 70 Taru BLM (if the sig didnt tip you off) and i'm really getting depressed here. I mean I hear that its as easy as hell to kill him. Nuke, Sleep, Nuke, Sleep, Nuke and its over. Well I can rarely get past the first sleep. As soon as I nuke him, I go to sleep him and BAM it resists and then I get hit with Aeroga 3 and I hit the floor faster then Courtney Love at a bar.

So what I'm asking the BLM Community (hell i'll ask the MNK community if it will help :P ) for any advice i can get. When should I fight Maat/what am I missing/Does S-E just hate Taru BLMs?

I would like to know what the optimal days/times that i should go. I did some research on Maat, but all i get is the Nuke/sleep ect. formula. IDK what to do about the resists, its just getting rediculous at this point.

Is the a specific day or moon phase that I should go on? I mean he resisted Sleepga 2 with a Spider Torque, AF Body and capped skills, WTF!
 
lets see what did I do..

Flare > Elemental Seal Sleep II > Manafont > Flood > Stun > Sleep or Fire III

I think thats what I did its been a while. If he casts a big spell after yoru initial spell I think you should probably stun. Blink band helps a lot. I was lucky when I Beat him after I casted the first flare he Burned me. Before when I was real unforunate and he casted firaga III idk its been a while.
 
Yeah, i would stun. Sad thing is that he would resist everything i threw at him. Stuns included.
 
Sleepy time for Maat

If you can borrow a friend's pluto staff it makes a huge difference. He sleeps like a little baby! I had the same issue with sleep resisting. (But my main job is Red Mage) So, it's basically the same issue. Also, I included melon pie +1, 1 Vile elixer +1, 1 Vile Elixer, 1 Yagudo drink, and 1 pear au laut

Also, I know a lot of forums tell you to go in there naked and all that... but, go in there fully clothed, it's not worth the MP you would loose from not wearing your gear.

Just make sure it is Darksday. Darksday + Pluto Staff = sleepy Maat.
 
See, thats the weird thing. I went on a Darksday and the moon was at 2%. I thought that it would have a better chance at doing it. Yet here we are... like it has to be like 0/8-9.

But i think i will borrow a LS mates Pluto staff.
 
Wow. That's rough. Wonder if SE made him harder in one of the updates cuz he was a breeze when I took him. Good luck with him :?

Rors, I feel your pain.. nothing ever sticks, sleep II is always resisted ><

I fought him 2 times, and he made me so damn depressed x.x
 
i was gonna ask if you've tried elemental seal after your first move. Also, go on darksday full moon maybe? That should probably help with sleep sticking.
 
Well I did try elemental seal with sleepga 2 before and it did work, the only thing is that I wont have it for the weaker sleep spells like sleep 2. Also i wanted to know if I should even bother with using things like Sleepga 1 or if i should stick with sleep 2. Its weird, I never had problems with things that con IT++ but the old man, who's supposed to be Even to me, resists things as if I just got my first sleep spell.

PS: Vondoom, if you are reading this Thank You SO much for lending me the Stoneskin Torque. I have been using it alot and I hope to get it back to you with some charges left to it. I'll buy you a new one if I end up getting it to 0.
 
Ror, you pretty much are single-handedly responsible for me getting the past 40 Great Sword skill levels just from all the test hunts. 23 more and I'm capped baby, keep it up!

Next time you go, I'll stand by Maat as WAR/WHM and threaten him with Dia / Banish and stuff. Guaranteed he'll buckle and let you win.
 
Oh if only... if only :lol: Wish i was able to take a 2x4 to this guy so i can put him out of my misery for good.

Have you tried macroing in the appropriate elemental stave and enfeebling gear with sleepga/sleep? I can't understand why you're having trouble sleeping this fool :(
 
Yeah what i did with the macros in the beggining was I swapped in the AF body and other pieces that gave + to enfeebing skills. But i didnt know to use the Dark Staff with sleep because i never looked it up since I never had a problem with landing sleep before. But I did that the last few times and it worked like a charm... which brings me to my next point.

I finally beat him! It took a while and a ton of voyages to Castle O and Beadeux but its finally done. Much props to my static: Bigdadddy(3 D's here) Motley (the Hero of Bastock, its because of HIM that you guys have Ronfar) Cmdryfly (Master of the ButterSheep) Daryus (RDM of RDMs) and Mielle (Best Elvan WHM ever!) to waiting and helping me get them all and putting up with the silliness of it all. I also have to thank the rest of my LS "Pheonix Pimps" for being there for me all those times in Castle O and other places to help me get those tests. After that there are way to many people to thank for various reasons cause i would be here forever.

And lastly thank you to those on the board for giving me the advice I used to beat him. If it werent for that, I would prolly still be face down in the dirt.
 
Ah. Congratulations. What might have been cancelling out your sleep is that you might have been using a light-elemental stave (fire, thunder, wind) while you cast sleep, thus weakening the spell in earlier runs.

Anyways, congrats :D
 
Now that makes sence since I would always start the fight with Firaga 3 and had a Fire Staff equiped... Lmao :lol:
