The Old Republic

I've partied with a number of tanks that either couldn't hold hate or couldn't take damage. I'm a healer, so when I'm getting my ass kicked it means one of two things: You can't hold hate, or I'm healing too much because you're taking too much damage.

As for tanking, I made a Bounty Hunter tank as well. I tanked no problem, my damage was easily mitigated by my stuns and it seems that just by being a tank you just garnish more hate from attacking, that's it. But i'm only level 13, so I really can't say anything definitively about that. My third character is a DPS smuggler. You get a couple stun's, knockbacks, and slowdown effects to make it so that you can use both countdown attacks and do a kite/instant attacks in between. If you're not a dumbass, it's fairly easy.

So there isn't like a Blood Presence/Righteous Fury/Defensive Stance and it's more like Paladin/Ninja solely using ability to build threat then? So I take it bosses can be stunned/silenced/whatever debuffs are in game.

I want to seriously devote some effort and time to this game but...

I find it hard to trust Ecks with all his Dark Side propaganda. >_>

I'm a Sith Juggernaut Tank and it's almost like your traditional tank. You have tons of damage mitigation and are generally beefy as hell, with a heavy focus on Endurance and defensive stats, heavy armor. The usual tank. We have our taunts, 1 singled target, 1 aoe and tons of aggro gaining abilities. I even have a fair amount of ranged abilities for a class that is primarily an in-your-face tank. It's easy as hell to tank as a Sith Juggernaut.

Again, I can't comment on any other tanking classes as I've yet to see them in a party dynamic.

Not entirely true.

There are actually different stances that you can toggle on/off. I'll use myself being a Sith Juggernaut; We have a total of two forms. There is Shii-Cho Form which gives an increased damage buff and slight defensive buff and you get that, I think, at or around level 1. Then when you actually become a Juggernaut you gain Soresu Form which is highly defensive and meant for tanks. Soresu form gives you a much larger defense increase, but also gives a bonus to threat generation and a huge buff to your armor rating, as well as giving you a bonus to your shields. This is the primary form for the Immortal spec tree, which is the tanking tree and you get it just for being a Juggernaut class. There is another form available to Juggernauts but it's only available on the Vengeance spec tree, called Shien Form and it is basically an improved Shii-Cho, basically doubling the amount of damage that Shi-Cho Form grants and has some nice bonus that will give you more rage available to use more skills. This is for the primary DPS tree on Juggs, the shared spec tree Rage does not have any special saber forms associated with it, so you can use either Shii-Cho or Soresu as needed, though I would guess that Shii-Cho would be your primary saber stance because it is meant for doing damage.

Immortal skill tree abilities specifically function with Soresu Form only so that there really isn't any use for an Immortal Juggernaut to ever be using Shii-Cho form, but if for whatever reason you wanted to, the skill is still available to use.

There are other saber forms for Mauraders and Assassins as well. Though, Assassins instead of actually using a 'form' just use different energies focused on their saber staff but these are toggles just like the forms.

I haven't gotten the threat generation skills yet as I'm level 13. I've trained everything, as money isn't really that hard to get as long as you level

Even as a Juggernaut I don't remember what level I finally got 'Taunt', I think it was level 16 though.

And as far as money goes... x.x the level 40 speeder bike skill costs 200k. I've only had a little bit over 200k once, briefly, and then I trained a skill. (Should be breaking that money limit again soon though, not sure how long it will last)

Normal skills cost around 30k to train up and the cost only increases as you level up. However there aren't but 1-2 skills to train per level at this range.

Yeah I'm about to hit 28 and I don't have my speeder yet on my Jedi Healer. It's more laziness then anything else as I can easily craft up a lot of money per day. I just enjoy playing the game and I spend those credits on helping my friends with gear, since I pay for all the gathering and then craft their gear and not take anything in trade.

Meh. He wasn't totally pessimistic, but in the end didn't really sound all that positive.

Me on the other hand am still playing and enjoying SWTOR! My Juggernaut is resting comfortably at level 50 and I gotta say I loved the story and they way it ends (as I imagine the way they all end) leaves it open to be expanded via future content/expansions. Currently playing a Bounty Hunter and it's also a lot of fun and also has a pretty cool story.

One of the things I'm working on with my Juggernaut is collecting all, and I mean all of the Datacrons in the game (accessable to the Empire). My guild took a bunch of our level 50's and even did the funky glitchfest puzzle to obtain the "hidden" datacrons that give you +10 to all stats. Quite an experience that was. Must have been about 9 or 10 of us romping around in the hidden area. Stuff like that makes you really wonder, who the fuck found that shit out first?

They have since, through patches, changed how you obtain some of the datacrons, by drastically altering terrain in areas where they are located. Basically what once was not too hard to reach is now super difficult. (ei. Cunning datacron on Tatooine for Empire)

The game is still a blast. I have personally not gotten all that into the pvp. I've played about 3 matches on my Juggernaut. I probably need to do more though so I can gear up with better stuff than I am using. I can still tank Hard Mode Flashpoints though, albeit I get my face rolled on really crazy bosses. Specially when they glitch to a spot that makes them damn near unbeatable. Still fun, but not as fun as being able to survive and beat them and get fat loots.

finally got back to working full time for a couple weeks, got swtor today and I'm installing it now. I'm pumped! :D

played beta and really liked it, tho due to being broke I haven't been able to get it till now.

Cool cool. Do you have some friends to play with already? If not your more than welcome to come to my server 'Sword of Ajunta Pall', its a PVP East server currently Standard population according to the website. If you decide to hop on there, let me know your toons name so I can toss you an invite. My guild's not a huge guild. On average there are about 8 people on, at max we'd probably have about 15 or more. Quite a few people at level 50 already and a few people that are close to bringing their alts to 50.

Everyone in the guild is a pretty experienced mmo player, though a couple are finding SWTOR to be a bit different than what they are used to. (Which I don't understand because the people I'm talking about came from WoW)

Anyway, we'd be glad to have another person on the roster, if you're interested. :)

Yeah i got some friends from my old FFXI LS Reverence on wound in the force, appreciate the offer tho ^^

and so far I'm loving it, the quests are amazing, and lots of lil stuff you notice while playing thats so well thought out.

My only complaint is this damn UI, all the font sizes are eye strainingly small with no font size option, and that pale blue.... just eww, would be bad enough if it were just ugly, but a good number of the cut-scenes have shades of pale blue in the background, which renders the subtitles invisible >=(

Give us a font size option, and UI/text color option, and i'll be happy.

Well they are working on giving us a more user friendly and customizable UI to work with. No ETA yet, just a little teaser on one of their videos. But it's definitely going to be a major improvement no matter what.

So I finally dove into the game today. While it still may be the "New MMO Euphoria" effect still needing to wear off, I'm very pleased with how the game is so far.

First off: Good god, I stayed on Tython just a bit longer than I cared to. In the end, it worked out just fine and the storyline or character progression didn't suffer at all, but I couldn't wait to get off of it.

Secondly: I personally want to backhand every noob Jedi who expected to have their lightsaber handed to them the moment they got off the intro shuttle. I proudly flailed around my electro-bludgeon trainee shtick and that made it all the sweeter when the cutscene of the lightsaber construction actually happened.

*On a related note, am I the only one who mentally heard the theme from when Link pulls the Master Sword out of the pedastle as the lightsaber was being constructed?

Questing and missions are well done, well voiced and very well organized. I especially liked the first Flashpoint en route to Coruscant.

I only have one question: As a Jedi Knight, I had to actually pay attention and build Focus in order to use my stronger abilities. The moment I became a Guardian, it seemed like I had no issues whatsoever. In fact, I've been spamming my strongest attacks and I almost always have near a full Focus bar. I haven't read all my Guardian abilities yet, but for being the primary tank class, holy balls.

More to come! Need to jack up some Black Sun peeps.

As your polar opposite, a Sith Juggernaut, it's essentially the same thing though instead of Focus it's called Rage. The base class is always going to be slightly more difficult until you branch out into a specialized class mainly because you don't have access to the talent trees that make your job that much easier by giving you more focus back or using less focus than normal. No.. Focus/Rage is not going to be a concern for you. Gotta concern yourself with keeping up good armor/mods and lightsaber/mods so that you can take damage and keep on ticking. But you will find at endgame you will be using all of your focus to keep and hold aggro while dealing damage and there will be times you'll have to use your few Focus building abilities to use harder hitting, more effective abilities. It's all a blast though.

Endurance is obviously your primary stat, followed by Accuracy, Defense, Shield and Absorb. All other stats are secondary as Guardian/Juggernaut. Unless of course, you are only in it for the pvp. Then it's a slightly different story, but not my much, pvp need to just focus on getting the best pvp gear you can get. They have pvp stats on them (read: Expertise).

I'm still having a great time with the game. :)

Also, why does my saber occasionally flash and my eyes glow blue?

Um, that I don't know about. Perhaps a visual aspect to an ability or talent you picked. That or it's a bug, I really don't know. I don't much about how those sissy Jedi play.

I would make a retort about a higher moral standing and getting all the ladies, but going for pure light side is hard on the credits.

you should come to the dark side, we have cookies.

Also murdering is even more fun then it looks. XD

It's exactly like the Karma system in Fallout 3!

Be Evil and pillage everyone and their mother so you never run out of money, ammo or supplies.
Be good and struggle to get by.

In The Old Republic:

Be Dark Side and never run out of money or gear.
Be Light Side and be broke as shit.

Curse you moral integrity!
