Is the technology we have these days that advanced that within this century we could have mobile suits or gundams w/e you want to call them. They wouldn't have to be advanced as the ones were familiar with but even a proto type would be cool.

won't see these for simple fact collateral damage. each step would mean a new road to build. As for flight I don't think are jet propulsion or AI technology reach near that limit yet. Closes we may see would be the heavy lifting droids from aliens or appleseed.

Actually walkers are the ultimate in military vehicles when it comes to all terrain movement. Think of how a human can walk around rocks and over obstacles, this is the basic idea behind a walker, where wheels and hover cannot go. I think we'll likely see walkers more akin to those in video games and star wars than we'll see actual humanoid suits. Our technology isn't far off, but we need to perfect balance gyroscopes or our billion dollar devices will be falling over into ravines, and we really can't have that.

Queue the youtube video of the walking robot dog that makes that god-awful psychologically-degrading grinding sound of death.

On-topic, I'd also love to see mobile suits before I die.

Hellstorm: if the weight were displaced in such a way that it wasn't *entirely* directed in a one or two-point downward configuration, the collateral damage would be less significant. Granted, in order to carry any real weight though, those footprints would have to be unwieldingly huge.

Maybe we'll get lucky and it can be like power rangers and we all fight the evil forces in our megazords and take like half the town out so it can be rebuilt the next day??

The computer systems would be electrically powered but the thrusters and afterburners etc we'd have to find some new type of fuel i think since gas is at a shortage as it is..

What type of metal would be strong enough to be defensive but light enough to be mobile?

Maybe we can't have the land mobile suits because of the weight problems as you say but we could still have the aerial and sea ones perhaps?

and finally Zero system (Can I have it?)

Sea-based suits (re: Cancer and Pisces, I assume) would be less of a problem because of their buoyancy, but more of a problem for maneuverability and for rapidly changing buoyancy.

Air-based would be neat but, like you said, something would have to be done about the propulsion.

i lol'd ._.

We have tons of metals that are light and strong, and the issue isn't really fuel because we can make realistic sized thrusters and fuel reserves out of condensed hydrogen (an abundant resource). The problem is in the balance of the overall unit. Humans shouldn't be able to stand the way we do but because of our ear's gyroscope things we can. We'd need a sophisticated system that was impervious to shocks and rapid directional changes in order to mimic that balance. Humanoid mobile suites are probably the final stage of development from starting in tank walkers as seen above, and working the complexity up to have arms with dexterous hands capable of wielding a multitude of weapons or, in a non-military application, tools.

Quick lets get the blue prints for the 1st proto type WMD erm mobile suit here on QCDN.

Anyone know how to harness the energy from dark matter and uh where we could uh perhaps refine it from?

That's a good point. Otherwise anything sizable would have to have a long tail to counterbalance its own frontal weight, along with a very precise inertial navigation system lol.

Well, one problem would arise though... the cost to build a mobile suit.

It was estimated that it would cost a whooping 72 billion, 521 million yen (about £371,537,802.61), according to a Japanese site, gonna look for it quickly.

Edit:

Found it:

Japanese website SciencePortial.jp have estimated how much a genuine Giant F**king Robot would cost.

The Morph-X Combat Robot would consist seven electric gas turbine engines and 30-400 Kilowatt motors, 12 in the lower body, 2 in the torso, 14 in the arms and 2 in the neck. It would be able to walk, be equipped with the necessary weaponry and weigh 43.4 tons based on calculated statistics.

And thats for something basic considering our current tech level. If we want something like Strike Freedom from Seed or Exia from 00, we'd need probably at least another 50-100 years of research to make parts more efficient and cheaper, but at least its vaguely possible for now. Who knows, maybe we might actually have mobile suits in the 24th century like in Gundam 00's timeline, which actually used Anno Domini.

ya there is that to cost is not efficient, same reason touch screen tables and other high tech gear you see in movies have not made it to the public sector yet. However there getting closer see here.

Difference being, Microsoft Surface will hit the market in a couple years instead of a couple decades like the idea of a walker would be. That and honestly, we can build all the war bots we want, but if I can't touch wall call my mom while I take a dump in my smart heated massage toilet, have we really advanced anywhere?

as of right now i think nay suit produced would be slow and bulky In this pic the only one that is doable hypotheticly is the brown one at te bottom

I doubt we'll ever see anything like a Gundam for another couple hundred years.

Maybe just a Leo or Aries type :\ lol

Hang on a second, I just thought of something.

There is a theme park attraction in Japan of a 1/1 scale sized replica of The RX 78-2 Gundam from Gundam First. The attraction is called Gundam Crisis, it costs 800 yen to ride and has a game inside it where you have 8 minutes to complete 8 missions. If you win you get to see some sort of Gundam related video. I have no idea where this is or if it is still being used.

Just thought it might interest you.

I think they'll start out with some mech type robots first. Robot like that walker with guns and maybe a small canon in it. I highly doubt that a full fledged gundam can be done today or heck even the next 100 years. The only way I see that 100 year or whatever number changing is if some radical power source is developed. Getting enough power is one off if not the biggest problem.
