Lol, the effect is soon changed when he nearly killed me! There could have been something sharp behind my head, and besides, he CAN be timid when he wants to be, how ever wrong that sounds. I guess I'm just dirty minded =Z

Anyways, chapter 7 is in the making, and I have a special guest in the story! Keep an eye out on up-dates!

Chapter 7

We arrived at Mhaura later that night, and we where cold and battered from the gale that was blowing in Tahrongi Canyon and the Buburimu Peninsula. We ran to the boat which was sitting in the docks, and was ready to leave, but Blabj managed to fall over on the stairs and nearly kill himself, so we missed it. We walked into the “Sailors Stay”, an inn near the docks. The Hume behind the counter showed us each to a room where we dropped our luggage and slept. As soon as I got into my room, I blew out the candle on got on my bed. I lay there in the dark, unable to sleep, even though I was nearly blind with fatigue. The reality was beginning to sink in on what we where doing, this was the first night in my memory I wasn’t sleeping in Windurst. I kept having flash-backs about what I had seen. The bloody mess that was once Larroh Jakobah on the bed. To be honest, I felt sick lying on the bed. Silent tears built up in my eyes, and began leaking softly on the sheets.

The morning came, and I had barely slept at all. Blabj, Zendra and Rasputen seem refreshed, but Sephectja seemed like she hadn’t either. We all walked over to the boat, payed our admission and sat on the crates which were stacked in the waiting area.
“What’re we gonna do next?” Zendra asked curiously
I held my hand on my chin, thinking.
“We could go to Bastok, but I don’t think we would find anything. Maybe Jeuno would have more answers? I can’t believe I have done this… Maybe I should go back… NO! I need to find that man, and kill him. I guess Bastok might not be a great place to start, but it was on that note, and I need some leads…”
“Bastok” I replied, quietly.
Then, the silence was restored, like it had been since we had left Windurst. All that could be heard now was the soft ripples over the waves and the occasional adventurer or local running past. However, we could soon here the roaring of the Ferry trudging through the once peaceful water, and then docking by the jetty. The Mithra guarding walked past the side, and gave us access to the cargo ship. We walked through - all except Blabj of course who had run to get the best section of the boat to wait in - and sat down. There where a few others on the boat. A Beastmaster, he looked to be around level 50, Hume male. There was a party of level 10s, probably on there way to train in the Valkurm dunes, and there was also a Mithran Warrior, who seemed to be around our level. About an hour later, the boat left the docks, and out into Guguru Blue.

After the boat had left, the doors leading up the deck where opened, and we all left the cramped waiting (or storage room…). The sun had risen over the sea, and the weather was warm. Everyone stood, looking out over the sea. It was peaceful, I felt warm and happy inside, which was a relief; I was sick of feeling raw about what had happened. Sephectja was smiling, which I was happy about. If anyone had been affected worse about this entire experience, it was her. Zendra was sitting at the front, throwing flint stones into the water and trying to skim, while Blabj was telling the level 10 adventurers to try there hand at fishing, and his wish did come true, they managed to catch a Sea Monk which began knocking them about, but the Beastmaster charmed it, and manipulated it into jumping back into the water once they began calling for help. The Mithran Warrior walked up to me.
“Hello, could you perhaps you could help me get the Bastok?” She asked, happily
“Well, we’re headed that way anyways, so I don’t see why not.” I told her
I invited her to join the party.
She held out her hand, enthusiastically, which I shook.
“I’m Verha, by the way”
“And I’m Curjos…”

Hours later, we arrived in Selbina; it must have been the late afternoon, not 100% sure. We decided to spend the night in Selbina, but as we weren’t tired we decided to go and train a little in the Dunes.
“Guys, did you hear about that Elvaan scholar in Selbina who is offering people something called a ‘Support Job’?” Verha blurted out, randomly half way through a battle. “He told me he would train me how if I trade him a Crab Apron, Damselfly Worm and a Magiked Skull.”
We decided that we would go and get them. This concept of a support job sounded interesting. At around 1 AM, we began back to Selbina. I felt in a better mood, yet I still felt hell-bent on revenge. I was thinking to me when I suddenly heard “OOOOOH CRAAAAAAAP!!!” Blabj was screaming. We turned around. There was a Bogy chasing him. Without hesitation, I drew my Hammer and launched it at the Bogy, smashing its head. It barely twitched. It then began casting, but Sephectja silenced it. She drew her sword, and began slashing the Bogy, doing more damage than me; but no where near enough.
“OI, BOGY!” Verha screamed at it, it turned its head “THAT’S RIGHT YOU UGLY LITTLE BASTARD”. It shot at Verha, screeching in rage. I healed Verha while she continued to provoke it. Zendra and Blabj stood back with me, nuking it down. It seemed to be at around half HP, when Sephectja managed to pull hate of Verha with a Red Lotus Blade, charged with 300% TP. Sephectja fell in a few hits, her attempts to cure herself where in vane as she couldn’t cast the spell without being interrupted. Verha then lunged at it, putting her Great Axe though its head, making it scream. She had used her ‘2-day’ ability, Might Strikes. The Bogy’s HP depleted, but when I ran out of MP she fell, and I managed to have the enmity. I called for help, but nobody with the courage to help kill a Bogy was there, and suddenly, a Dragoon fell from the sky, his lance pointed down towards the Bogy, and his Wyvern following behind which ripped into the Bogy. The Dragoon began driving the Lance through the Bogy, which was now writhing in agony. It lunged at him, and he did a back-flip, before stabbing the Bogy which then exploded into smoke and ash. We where all stood there, panting. The Hume Dragoon then began walking into the distance. He seemed to be around level 50.
“Than-…” I began
“Don’t mention it” He called back, casually, stopping.
“Who are you?” Zendras asked
“I’m Cleofis” He replied coolly, his back to us, before jumping into the sky, his Wyvern behind him, disappearing from our view into the thick blue night.

Chapter 8

After getting the items the man had asked for, we left for Bastok on foot. It must have taken about a day to get there, so when we arrived we where tired. I had wondered all about the meaning of the letter, and now I was going to find out, and I didn’t intend on sleeping until I did.

Zendra yawned “I’m going to get my rent-a-room and sleep now”
I just carried on walking towards my destination; the Metalworks. I could feel everyone glaring at me, this didn’t bother me, I wanted answers, and had wanted them that instant.

When I got to the Metalworks, I went straight to the presidents office, and walked over towards the door before I was stopped by a Galka.
“What do ya think you’re doing?” He spat
“I need to speak with the president” I replied, wiping the saliva off my face.
“That aint my problem, now get lost before I have ya arrested” He retorted
I just stood there, clenching my fist. I didn’t want to start anything, mainly because I was a level 23 White Mage looking up to a Galka, so I backed off and back towards the lift. I didn’t know what to do, and then I saw them. A group of Alchemists where testing out some products. I heard about them before in class, special substances used to slip past monsters un-detected. I remember we had done this because Bastok had allegedly used some kind of device to scan magical energy, and used it on an Elvaan priest who invented a spell to make himself invisible, but back to the topic at hand. They where manufacturing boxes of “Prism” powder as they called it. I walked over and hid behind a crate, peeking over the box to make sure nobody was there. I quickly grabbed and glass phial which was sat on a desk, and scooped a handful of Prism Powder into it. I also saw another box on the desk, containing thick oil. I picked up another phial and filled it; I assumed this was the Sneak Oil manufactured so the Bastokers could sneak into San d’Oria and capture the White Mage undetected. I hopped back on the elevator, which took me back to the top floor. I applied the oil to my feet, and sprinkled the powder on myself. I began walking and I head nothing, and when I looked down at myself I saw right through. Success! I walked towards the door, and new that if I wanted to get through undetected I would have to distract the Galka, how? I walked over towards a space behind the office and began rummaging through my inventory. Don’t ask why, but I pulled out an Orange, which actually worked. A Tarutaru Summoner walked out of the Windurstian embassy, and began staring. For a second, I had thought he had seen me, but he was staring at the orange. He then walked over. I didn’t know to do, so I launched it at him, which hit him square in the face. He screamed, and the Galka came running out, his weapon drew, at this point, I darted towards the door, hearing the Galka saying
“A flying orange?! Crazy Windurstians…”
At first, I didn’t recognise the man talking to Karst, but he when he put on his helmet I new exactly who he was, and it took a huge amount self restraint to hold myself back for lunging at him.
“I don’t know what happened to the note, that bitch must have torn it when she attacked me” He said, coolly
His speaking made my guts writhe, I felt like I was on fire. I couldn’t cope, my head was burning
“At least you’re alive” Karst replied with a breath of relief.
“Haha! She barely scratched me! I got a little cut, but that’s it!” He bragged, his smug voice was like boiling liquid to my skin, with every word I wanted to pounce on him, every word made me want to kill him, mutilate him like he had done to Larroh.
“You want to re-write the note?” Karst asked
“Nah, the pieces will be around somewhere… He will only need the first part of the note, it pretty much gives the whole thing away” He said, polishing his armour. “Maybe we should, and have it warped”
“Don’t talk to me about magic, I lost my only son to it… My only fucking son, a White Mage. He has disgraced my entire family line” The man replied. I stood paralyzed for a second. At first it hadn’t hit me that he had just referred to ME as his son. The agony began welling up inside me. My father was a murderer; my father had tried to kill me. The thing that hurt the most is that I expected my Dad to have been a hero, but he is a cold-blooded murderer. “This is how its starts. Curjos, if you want answers, return Bastore…”
This is when the effect of the Prism powder began wearing; I could feel the grains of sand melting on my skin. At this point, both the men where writing the letter, and didn’t see me slip out the door.

I ran behind the building, while I gradually became visible. I leant against the wall, breathing heavily. I wanted to kill that man, my father, and I was going to do it. I began towards the exit, when he came out of the room. It was that face, all I could see in his eyes was pure evil. I pulled my hood up on my tunic so he wouldn’t recognise me, and began following him down through the hall ways. Once he neared the exit, I couldn’t hold myself back. I pulled out my hammer and advanced on him, his back turned. I got ready to strike, but couldn’t bring myself to do it. I didn’t know whether or not was because he was my father, or because I was scared. I felt like I was such a coward. He continued to walk on, oblivious to the fact that I had nearly attacked him, but what could I have done? I was just a level 23 White Mage…

Chapter 9

I slept well that night, which was surprising considering the new I had found out last night, but I wasn’t complaining as it was the only night I had slept well in 4 days. I didn’t have a clue where I was going to go next. He said something about the Bastore sea. That made no sense at all. Then I remembered what he had said, he was going to Warp another letter. I wanted to do my best to avoid Windurst, so my best option I thought was Jeuno, which was right next to the Bastore Sea.

I woke everyone early that morning. The Bastokan morning was nothing compared to that of Windurst. The weather was cold and the wind was strong. It just reminded me of how much I missed Windurst. We made our way to the Chocobo stables, we payed our admission, and left into Gustaberg after saying good bye to Verha, who was staying in Bastok to finish what she had started, I was right in feeling that one day we would meet again.

We arrived at Jeuno later that night. We would have been there earlier, but we had to walk with Blabj when he fell off his Chocobo. When we arrived in Lower Jeuno, the streets where crowded like I had never experienced before, I couldn’t see past the thick layer of adventurers. There where adventurers of all races, jobs and levels, and the street was filled up with music being played by Bards from across the world, and streaks of magical light where screeching across the sky from the White Mages teleporting to various locations of Vana’Diel, and every now and then you would have to dodge the occasional adventurer warping to the position in which you where standing. We didn’t even sleep that night, we just sat in the “Merry Minstrel” drinking with each other. It was my idea, mainly because I knew that this was probably going to be the last time that we where going to be able to kick back and relax, I knew that after today everything was going to be hectic, and I was right.

Anyways, it reached the morning, and we had slept for only a few hours. We had all had a great time, well, excluding me and Sephectja. When I awoke, she was no where to be found. I didn’t blame her for wanting to disappear, she hadn’t really spoken a word since she found out about Larroh Jakobah, I had barely even seen her let off any steam about it. She just fought on pretending that it never happened. I had been searching Jeuno all morning, but I still found no trace of her. I wondered where she could be. That day was a hard day for me too. It was finally beginning to sink in that it was my fault that she had died. I walked into Qufim island. I passed through the damp tunnels, meters deep underwater. After I reached the end of the tunnel, I saw Sephectja in the distance facing the sea. I walked over to where she stood. I sat down next to her. We sat there for 10 minutes, not talking, just staring into the distance, watching the sea as it thrashed against the cliff on which we where sitting.
“I found this” She said, her voice quivering in what seemed to be a mixture and anger and grief. She handed me a battered red book. I held it in my hands for a second, just staring at the cover. There was handwriting on the book, seemed to be that of a woman. The writing had been smudged, the book must have been an old one, 10 or 20 years I would have thought. I opened it, and the first page read “Curjos, if you’re reading this, then I am probably already dead. I just want you to know, that I am proud of you in what ever you have chosen to do with your life, and I don’t want you to read these next pages until you find that you have to.”.
I put my hand to turn the page, but I hesitated. I wanted to pull it, but something was holding me back. My hands trembled, and then I decided I would leave it. When I closed it Sephectja began staring at me, her eyes where blood shot and puffy, she didn’t seem to have slept in days. She then handed me another sheet of parchment, this bit had been torn. This page read from the point it had been torn “…ore sea. The location you seek is where it meets with the sea of Shumeyo. The crossing of the crystals. The tower which keeps the sky afloat… Here you will find the permit which will allow you to sail to Era…”
At this point, there had been another tear in the page. I sat, re-reading the parchment over and over again. It had hit me instantly that the place was on Qufim island, as I was already facing the Bastore sea and behind me was the sea of Shumeyo, but what did it mean by “The crossing of the crystals” and “The tower which keeps the sky afloat.” The only lead I had was Delkfutts tower, as it was the only tower insight.

I stood in my Jeuno rent-a-room that night, staring out of my window at Delkfutts tower. I knew well enough, that going in there at my current level would be suicide. I was going to have to put my vendetta against my father on hold, and begin adventuring. I explained to the others the next day, who agreed, and then we all went our separate ways, not knowing that the next time we would be together would be 3 years away…

Chapter 10

3 years later, I had trained up to become a level 71 White Mage, and I was ready to finish the quest for revenge I had started long ago. I decided I would start in Delkfutts tower, as this was what I had read on the note. I still hadn’t read the book, and it had never left my side since the day I got it. I was attached to it as though it was part of me. It was late at night when I began heading towards Delkfutts tower. I ran through the thin snow, by breath was misty and cold like the bleak sky. I would occasionally walk past an Arcana Weapon, which would start hissing at me, clawing the air in front of me, and the Gigas natives often glared at me, and snorting before turning away knowing that they would die if they attacked me, I remember being knocked un-conscious by one when I had been levelling my Black Mage support-job. Chills ran down my spine every time a Banshee or a Wraith would screech past me after a low level adventurer who forgot to sneak themselves. I soon arrived at the tower entrance. As I walked through, I could hear my footsteps echoing into the tower.

Hours later, I still found myself running around the silent Labyrinth of the tower; I seemed to be on the middle floor when I began getting that chilling feeling you get when you are being watched. I ran around twisting tunnels and walk-ways, climbed endless staircases and warped through masses of teleportation devices. I finally found myself at the top. I ran around the corner, and was soon flung back across the floor by the giant club of a troll. I drew my Dark steel maul and began beating, throwing an enfeebling spell on it every now and then. After the fight a healed up, and cast sneak, invisible and Reraise on myself, before continuing through the Upper Floor. When I reached the top, I pull out the book and began staring at its pages, my hand ready to turn the page. I had never had such a feeling before, it was almost like a voice telling me to turn the page, which I did, slowly and quivering, I was nervous and excited about what secrets and information the next page held. The next page contained a huge series of maps, diagrams and information on Delkfutts tower and the Stella Fulcrum. I began reading information on the Steller Fulcrum which seemed to have been torn out of a library book and stuck down, this is what it read:
“The Stellar Fulcrum is said to be located beneath Delkfutts Tower, Qufim Island. We believe that it is some kind of magical power generator, similar to the Horutoto towers in Sarutabaruta. We have not yet found any reference to what it does, but there are some theories.”
I then began reading another section labelled the “Chrysalis Core”.
“Said to power the Stellar Fulcrum, and allow the ‘Tu’Lia’ continent to float above Vana’Diel. Sends a ‘Beam’ of energy into the sky, and has been known to send off “excess” magical energy, which is deterred by the mother crystals and is normally fired towards Near Eastern continents becau...”
Where it said “magical energy”, there was an arrow pointing towards a news article, off a Flyer which seemed to have come from Al Zahbi, where ever that was… “This morning, several citizens witnessed what they described as “bright lights” flying across the sky over Al Zahbi. Later on, we found several people who claimed to be adventurers saying that they had just teleported to the Crags of either Mea, Holla or Dem and where transported here. We have the suspects in captive, and will be deported back to the main lands after standing trial.”It became apparent to me that I had to find the Stellar Fulcrum in order to find what I was looking for, the permit to Era--, I wish the sentence had been finished, at least then I knew what I was looking for. I new that I was going to have to get to Al Zahbi too, but I wasn’t sure how, and I wasn’t sure why my father had wanted me to go there, but I was soon going to find out. I looked across the page, and saw a map of Qufim tower, or the Upper Floor of it. The hallway system had gone, and I now found myself running through massive halls, my foot steps echoing throughout – not to be seen of course, had the invisible spell up all the way through – I wondered if I should have cast deodorize on the Gigas, because they’re fetid stench bought tears to my eyes, meaning I was relieved to reach a teleportation device, which apparently was my ticket out of Delkfutts. When I reached Stellar Fulcrum, I walked over to the door which stood at the opposite end, and it slowly opened.

Once inside the room, I saw nothing because there was a blinding light coming from the centre. The light soon faded, and I saw my father standing there around a device with a huge amount of magical energy passing through it, and shooting out to the sky. I walked slowly into the room, entranced by the spectacular lights flowing from the beam.
“Ah, Curjos I presume?” Called my Father, his voice barely legible over the blurring noise of the device, I would have thought the Chrysalis Core. I didn’t answer him, I just stared into his cold eyes.
“Look at what you’ve become” He said, disappointedly
I just stood there. I don’t know how he had the nerve to talk me after everything he had put me through.
He began “It’s bad manners not to-…”
“Don’t you dare talk to me” I screamed
“Well, looks like someone has a temper!” He joked.
My skin felt so hot that I thought it was going to begin bubbling. I kept telling myself to calm down.
“So, you’re still after me, hmmm?” He began, he new the answer, he was just mocking me.
“You know, you’re pathetic. I don’t know how someone could have bought you up so badly”
At this, I lost it completely; I ran at him and smashed him across the face with my Hammer. He threw me across the room, and I got to my feet casting Holy on him. He went crashing to the ground, before getting up. His cold grey eyes began glowing red with power, and then shot jets of fire at me. The effect of shell blocked most of the fire, causing it to flow over me, but it then gave way and shattered under the power. I healed myself, and ran back at him, this time hitting him with a Hexa Strike. I knew I was hurting him, but I wasn’t doing enough. He drew his scythe, which bounced off my skin like it had hit a shield, but my Stoneskin effect soon wore, and when it did he launched another jet of fire at me, causing me to fly back and hit the wall. I wasn’t done yet. I got up, and began casting Banish III again, when it hit him he screamed in pain, and then I charged at him hitting a critical with my maul. His face looked battered. He then began readying Spiral Hell which knocked me unconscious. I reraised, but I new better than to attack while weakened. I had lost.
“Pathetic” He yelled at me.
I lay there in pain. I was having the most frustrating feeling ever, I wanted to kill him, and I just couldn’t, I was still too weak. There was no way he was level 75, some of the spells he cast on me I had never even seen a Black Mage cast, and I new how a level 75 Dark Knight fought, partly because Zendra was one now, and we had partied a few months back. I remember thinking “why isn’t he coming to kill me? He obviously wants to so bad, so I don’t see why he doesn’t just get it over and done with”. He then walked over to where I lay, and looked at me with disgust in his face. He spat at my feet, before reaching for my book. At this point, I was on my feet. I launched myself at him, knocking him over. He kicked me off him with no trouble at all before advancing to the book. He picked it up. He opened the first page and read it allowed.
“HAHA! So it was Karis fault you’re a White Mage, hmmm?” He laughed
“Who’s Kari?” The words I spoke where painful, and I had to force them out making me wheeze.
“Did that Mithra not even tell you who your real mother was?”
It was then I realised who had written in the book. My father then began to turn the page, but he stopped frowning.
“Ah… She enchanted it” He pointed out in a know-it-all tone of voice. “Typical Kari…”
I could see the pain and frustration in his face as he began trying to turn the page. He was so close, but was soon interrupted when a bolt of lightning manifested itself in the air above him, striking him down. At first I thought it had been a result of the book, but I then heard a familiar voice.
“Zadfon Leonhart, I am placing you under Federal Arrest for the murder of Larroh Jakobah” I turned around, and at first I couldn’t believe my eyes. Verha was standing there, a level 75 Ninja wearing Koga Chainmail, and stood on either side of her stood Rasputen, dressed in a Tactician Magician uniform with a Cardian standing next to him, and Blabj in Igqira Armour, his hands where smoking with magical energy, he had attacked my Father. I ran over and grabbed my book before turning around. My father jumped up and grabbed me, putting a cross bow to the side of my head.
“Invite us both to a party, or I swear I will shoot.”
I shook my head, even though I was desperate to be saved. I looked at the bolt, and it looked like nothing I had ever seen before. It said ‘Apocalypse Bolt’ on the arrow head, and I had a horrible suspicion that it would kill me. Verha invited us. I accepted the invite like I was instructed, and then was told to begin casting Teleport-Holla, Dem or Mea. I began casting, and then suddenly Sephectja joined the party. She burst into the Stellar Fulcrum with Carbuncle out infront of her. She had become a Summoner, which I was shocked to see. It leaped towards be, but Zadfon shot it, and it exploded into wisps of smoke. Sephectja began summoning again, but by the time she got half way through the spell, I teleported…

Chapter 11

I remember waking up the next day, not knowing where I was. My head was sore; the last thing I could remember was casting the spell. I fumbled around for the book, which I found. That is all that mattered to me. I opened it and began trying to open the next page, which I couldn’t. The rain was falling on my head, and I was in a marsh land so was completely swamped with mud and grime. I couldn’t find anybody, and there was an eerie mist lingering over the place which made me feel extremely un-easy. I ran through the fog for hours, not knowing where I was going or how I was going to escape. On several occasions I tried teleporting, but it was pointless, every time I cast the spell I just remained in the same place. I collapsed on the floor. I was certain what I would die, and then I heard it. It was a beautiful song. I got to my feet as if I was being healed by the soothing music. I didn’t care what it was, I just followed it at is it was so beautiful. Eventually, I’m came into a clearing, and there stood the most foul looking creature I had ever seen, but a the time I couldn’t help but feel attracted by it, almost felt like I was falling in love with it. It was a Hume Woman, except there was a fin where her legs should have been, and her skin was blue and scaly. Instead of hair she had sail, like that of a Cobra. Her eyes were red and I looked into them making me feel warm. I slowly walked over to her. I new I was doing the wrong thing, but I couldn’t stop myself, closer and closer, and then suddenly she smashed me with her staff, and the beautiful song became hissing and screeching. I was instantly free of the spell, and I thrust my hammer through her head. Blue Blood erupted everywhere, and she collapsed on the floor screeching. She rose again, and I paralyzed her. She began trying to attack, but the paralysis would allow her to. I continued to batter her around with my hammer till she died in a heap on the floor. I stood there, covered from head to toe in blue blood, breathing heavily, my hammer still drawn. After I caught my breath, I tucked it back into my belt. I stood there, wondering what the creature was, and then I heard that voice telling me to open the book, so I did. I randomly opened it at a page, and read the title which said “Lamia”
Lamiae are a form of Beastmen which inhabit the Azouph Island, the northern section of the Erajia continent. Although they are classed as Beastmen, they are an Organic Weapon created by Alchemists of Aht Urghan, and therefore are referred to as Chimeras. They attack foes by using there Charm abilities, so extreme caution is to be taken while attacking them. They resemble a cross between a serpent and a woman.
I then looked further down the page to a title which said “Undead Swarm”
As the Lamiae are few in number, they have become certain mages which raise the dead known as “Necromancers”. They have raised the dead of many soldiers, and they use them to defend themselves and there strong hold which is said to be Arrapago Reef”
I started thinking that I was in Arrapago reef, before I closed the book. As soon as I did, I heard the voice telling me to open. I did, and the page came up at Arrapago Reef.
Arrapago Reef is an area within the Azouph Islands which is said to be the home for not only the Lamiae, but also a Corsair hide-out. It is not known why, but nearly every time a ship enters this area it is wrecked, and the sailors are never to be heard of again. It mainly consists of Dark Caves, and the Lamiae cross the waters by using methods such as building walk-ways across the ships which have been wrecked.
I had seen enough, this was obviously not Arrapago Reef so I closed the book in frustration. I sat there for 5 minutes pondering about how to find out, and then I realised how I had been accessing the book. I held it in front of me, and began thinking the words “where am I?” over and over in my head. Nothing happened. I needed to focus, which is what I did. I focused so hard on the question that my head began to hurt, and without realising I opened the page to a section which read “Caedevra Mire”.
Caedevra Mire is a marshland located on the Azouph Islands. It stands between the town of Nashmau, the current home place of the Qiqirn Beastmen, and Arrapago Reef which is said to be a Lamiae stronghold.
I looked below, and a magic map was printed onto the page. I could instantly see where I was. I frowned, my only way out was through either Nashmau, home place of the Qiqirn, or Arrapago Reef, the Lamian stronghold. Remembering back on the information I had read, there seemed to be Corsairs there which showed there was life other than Beastmen, so that’s the way I went… If only I had realised that the Qiqirn where peaceful.

After hours of relentless travelling, I found a cave leading into Arrapago Reef. I held out my book, and began focusing on Arrapago Reef, before pulling it open at the same page I was at before, which too contained a map. I began travelling again, this time through the matted mazes of tunnels and ship-wrecks. The water was green with sludge and dirt, and the intoxicating smell of the dead lingered un-welcomingly in the air. Every so often a Lamia or rotted mass of dead flesh would streak past me and make my heart skip a beat. After a further 2 hours, I began thinking “What am I doing…? It’s not like the Corsairs are going to show there secret hide-out on a map” So I closed the book, and began thinking. I got the urge to open the book, and I did, but on a blank page. I tried again, but still nothing. Not even the book new. I re-opened it again on the page with the map and began heading back, this time taking a short-cut across a boat and onto another small mass of land. I continued through a tunnel opposite and onto a clearing, and jumped at the sight of about 10 winged creatures floating around. One turned and faced me, and hadn’t been deceived by the effect of invisible. It blew into a horn around its neck, and I ran for it down the tunnel, with the rest of them following me. One cast the bind spell on me, I couldn’t move. I could only watch as they simultaneously cast what seemed to be tier 4 elemental Area of Effect spells upon me. I fell with in seconds.

Chapter 12

“GET OFF ME YOU FAT BITCHES”
That is what I woke up to, Blabj screaming at the Lamia. I opened my eyes, rubbing them. I was hurt all over and felt extremely cold and weak. I looked around and realised that I was sat in a cell, which was being suspended from the ceiling of a dimly lit cave. The Lamiae guards threw Blabj in one next to me, spitting and hissing at him. “TRY A BREATH MINT” He screeched at them, sticking his middle finger up as they hoisted the cage into the air via a device on the wall. He kicked the metal bars, and yelped as he stubbed his toe on them, before sighing dejectedly and falling to the floor.
“Blabj?” I croaked, slowly and quietly.
He turned around as though he wasn’t sure who had just spoken to him.
“Curjos!” He bellowed, happily.
“What’re you doing here?” I asked him
“I woke up in here right next to some crazy scaled bitch who tried to eat me” He muttered “And after I roasted her alive with Flare and ran away. I found this near a pack of these Imp things”
He held out my book. I felt shocked when he returned it, I hadn’t even realised I dropped it.
“Don’t worry” he then said “I didn’t read it!”
I laughed and said “I know” causing him to look at me suspiciously.
We must have spent about 3 days in there, before Blabj came up with an idea.
“So you say that book gives you answers to any question you think of?”
“Most of the time, yeah”
“Then why don’t you look to see why we can’t cast?” He said through a grin
I closed my eyes and focused, and pulled the book open.
“Magic Filters”
Magic filters are used throughout prisons, high-security areas and dungeons throughout Vana’Diel. Originally created by Aht Urghan alchemists, enhanced versions are now manufactured in every major city. They prevent the use of magic by draining all the magic in the area. If the effect is reversed then all magical forces will be enhanced.
I looked towards the bottom of the page, which had a cutting from a manual
To reverse the effect of any Erajia Magic filter, simply life the tab off the front which is hidden by a mythrill cap. Once it is taken off, you will see 2 crystals, each in small recess. Swap the crystals around and return the cap. Once this is done, instead of glowing white, it should give off a black aura.
I explained to Blabj what we had to do, and he began thinking. He then said “If the reverse effect enhances it, then that must mean that if we set it correctly it will only suppress the magic, not get rid of it”
He stood there scratching his chin, before getting into the black magic casting stance. He closed his eyes and cast a stone spell in mid air, and small rocks manifested in the air before falling to the ground. The guards in the room where un-dead creatures, wrapped from head to foot in bandages, obviously had the intelligence of a creature similar to an Orc because they didn’t realise. He continued to practice, until he managed to tractor one of the rocks he had created back to his cage. He was grinning widely like he usually did when he was proud of himself.
“Now! Where’s that magic filter?”
We both saw it at the same time. It was relatively, the size of a large pebble but as bright as a rare diamond. Blabj began focusing on it, and eventually, he flung his arms back and it disappeared into a wisp of smoke, and then re-appeared in front of him. He picked it up and tossed it to me. I opened the front of it like the book had instructed, and pulled out the 2 crystals, re-arranging them.
“Ok, now try teleporting!” Blabj grinned
I cast the spell, nothing.
“Oh shit!” He muttered.
He began trying to Warp, nothing. We both slumped down, disappointedly. An hour later, Blabj decided he was going to nuke one of the creatures with water, just a small act of rebellion I guess. When he did, water poured from the sealing as though he had cast Waterga IV. The monsters spun around on foot and began shooting arrows at Blabj. In a panic, I cast flash. An explosion of White Light appeared around them, causing them to fall to the floor, clenching there eyes. I cast Protectra and Shellra IV on us both, causing masses of lights to fly around us.
“Time to leave!” Blabj called at me, mischievously.
He began casting Flare. I held my arms in front of me, and wished Id covered my ears as the deafening blast hurt, a lot. I removed my hand, and the wall opposite us had gone, and Blabj was in fits of laughter. He cast fire on the metal wire which was causing our cages to levitate, which began to melt under the heat, and the cages soon fell to the ground. We left the room, or what was left of it, and where soon confronted by a pack of Lamiae. I cast Banishga on them all, who exploded into bright lights which dispersed into the putrid air. We began running amok in throughout Arrapago Reef for hours, having so much fun at the effects that the spells had. We soon came up to a heavy Iron door, which I blew up by casting Dia on. I remembered the problems I used to have getting that spell right, and casting it wrong had a similar effect so I wasn’t to amused there, but was even less amused by what we found behind the door…

Chapter 13

We ran into the room, Blabj’s over powered Blaze Spikes began setting fire to everything came near him. This room was different to any of the others we had seen. There was some kind rune being suspended around 4 poles which where protruding from the ground and at the opposite end there was a passage way, which was being blocked by another rune. We charged in laughing, but it soon stopped when a Hume woman came running at me. She hit me with her sword which was elegantly curved, with blue markings running down the blade, it didn’t feel elegant though. I was sent flying backwards, hitting a wall and dropping the Magic filter which shattered on the floor. The woman then turned to Blabj, and held her hands crossed in front of her causing blue sparks to fly towards her. She the bought her arms around in a loop, before holding them diagonally parallel before her causing magical energy to manifest there. From this magical ball, a bomb shot out and blasted Blabj into the wall. The woman was wearing Blue Jubbahs and a turban; she drew her sword and pointed it at Blabj’s throat, whilst she threw a device at me which coiled itself around my arms, binding them before doing the same to Blabj. She ran over towards a stand which stood next to the runes and called down a Link Pearl:
“We have an amber alert at Illrusi Atoll, I repeat, amber alert at Illrusi Atoll.”
We then heard another voice
“What’s the situation?”
“2 adventurers, mages by the looks of it, both are in captive and where in possession on an Erajian Magic Filter in reverse mode, which has been destroyed” She called back, I had expected her breath to be panting, but it wasn’t. At the time I thought she had the stamina of a Tiger, and I was right… Literally.
Within minutes, more people appeared from the rune on the floor, all in the same uniform as before. They ran over to me and Blabj, 2 of them pointing a sword at our necks.
“Where are you from?” One of the demanded
“Windurst, on the Mindarthia continent” Blabj replied, nervously
The Galka who asked the question grabbed his link pearl and said into it:
“It’s confirmed; another 2 adventurers from the Western continents.”
A deep voice replied “Ok, bring them in for questioning with the others!”
Blabj and I exchanged nervous glances. I think we both picked up on the fact that there where more, and I was dreading the fact my father was going to be there.

Soon, we found ourselves being dragged through a huge city. They had taken us through the portal, and we ended up in a huge hall way. The floor was covered in sand which was being blown in our faces by the strong wind. People would glance at us, I guess we would have looked odd to them as we weren’t from there home country. They carried on dragging us, obviously had no respect for our feelings as if we began walking to slow they would attack us. Eventually, we came into a small stone room, there was no floor, just sand. They threw us in and closed the door. We walked down the stairs in the centre of the room, and 2 more guards escorted us into a room, where a hand full of adventurers sat. Sephectja, Zendra, Rasputen and Verha amongst them.

Chapter 14

We walked in and sat down on one of the 2 wooden benches, there was one at either end of each of the room. The room was dark. The windows where narrow and barred, they where located around the top of the room where the basement came out from under ground. It was stuffy in the room, and the guards often had to kill insects they referred to as “Chigoes” when they jumped from underneath the sandy floor and attempted to attack us.
“How long have you been here?” I whispered to Verha cautious not to let the guards here, we weren’t allowed to talk.
“Since we got here” She whispered back, her breath cold in my ear “Sephectja, Rasputen and I landed just out side in the Wajoam Woodlands I think they’re called.”
“OI!” Yelled one of the guards ferociously “Did I give you permission to talk?”
We shut up, at least for 10 minutes.
“Do you know where my Dad went?” I whispered to her, quieter than before.
“No. He was gone when we woke up, I would have thought that he would have been with you, and by the way, this is yours”
She pulled out a scroll from her belt and handed it to me. I pulled off the ribbon which held it together, and read.
Curjos, this isn’t over. Return to Bastore Sea. The location you seek is where it meets with the sea of Shumeyo. The crossing of the crystals. The tower which keeps the sky afloat… Here you will find the permit which will allow you to sail to Erajia without even having to touch the sea. Here we can harness the power of Al Zahbi’s greatest treasure and here it will all end.
I read it about 3 times over, it nearly all made sense now. Erajia was the continent I was on, he new that the teleport spell was going to go wrong. I wonder what he meant by “Al Zahbi’s greatest treasure”, but I was going to find out. I turned to Verha
“Where did you find this”
“About 3 years ago it was found by investigators. The Bastokers where idiotic to hire a Windurstian Black Mage to Warp it here, and I received the case when I became a Mercenary.” She whispered
“But how did you realise that it was my father?”
“I back tracked to day it was warped, and I asked a few witnesses who where in Bastok and I found out that a Dark Knight appeared to have been carrying it. My main witness is over there” she pointed at him. He was a Tarutaru Summoner, awfully familiar but I couldn’t remember who he was. He gave me a sarcastic “What do you think you’re looking at” look, so I turned back to Verha.
“He’s a little crazy” she added quietly “He’s been on a hunt in search of flying oranges he says.”
“Okay~” I replied, silently
“He’s called Moriki” She told me.
Then the guard screamed “I THOUGHT I TOLD YOU TO STOP TALKING!” He walked over to me and cast a spell the same as the other one, this time it silenced me. The thing that worried me about these people, is that they where casting spells which a monster would use. The woman had cast Bomb Toss, and he had just cast Chaotic Eye which was a move used by Courels. I pulled a flask of echo drops from my Blessed Briault, and drank them. That burning sensation as they dripped down my throat was horrible.
“What the hell are you?” I blurted out.
“Don’t tell me you’ve never heard of the Immortal Lions?” He replied, his voice low as though he was about to tell us some kind of legend.
“If he had he wouldn’t have asked now, would he?” Moriki retorted sarcastically.
The guard flashed a dirty look in his direction.
“We’re Blue Mages, the best there is!” He proclaimed, he voice full of pride.
“Blue Mage?” I sighed.
“Damn, where did you come from?” He moaned. “Blue Mages are Mages, who have the ability to learn and cast monsters abilities.”
This entire prospect of learning monsters moves and using them to my own advantage sounded extremely tempting to me, before I could ask how I could become one he replied:
“But the power comes at a great cost!” He said, grinning wildly. The guard next to him grunted. “People say that us Blue Mages have sacrificed our own mortality for untold power”. By this point, everyone in the room had turned there heads in curiosity at the Blue Mage. The other Blue Mage shook his head
“Stop, you’re scaring the Adventurers.”
They both laughed sarcastically at us, so we turned back to our normal positions.

We sat for another 2 hours when the next adventurer was bought in, a Dragoon. I didn’t notice him at first, but when he pulled off his helmet I recognized him immediately.
“Cleofis?”
“Huh?” He turned around and looked at me “Curjos???”
“Hey!” I replied happily
“If I have to tell you one more time I’m gonna feed you to the Marid” yelled the Blue Mage, he obviously love the authority...

That night was highly uncomfortable. During the middle of it, a 16 year old Hume girl had been dragged in. Apparently, she was a White Mage and had teleported from her home after fighting with her parents. She was from San d’Oria apparently, she seemed nice. She told us that she spent most of her life looking after her grandmother who passed away just last week. Anyways, morning came and we all awoke. The guards had changed, and we where now being supervised by 2 Mithra.
“You are to stand trial today.” We where told by one of the Mithran Blue Mages.
Nobody said anything. We all new that if we did we would be kept in captive for longer, and anything was better than this.

Hours later we where led out of the room and into the city. We walked towards a huge gate, when we heard an emergency bell ringing.
“Al Zahbi is under attack! The Mamool Ja savages have breached the Balrahn Defence line and are advancing on the Imperial Capital. Martial Law has been declared in Al Zahbi”
We all stood, horrified. A mass of Soldiers, Immortals, Goblins and Volunteer citizens burst into the scene, there weapons drawn and ready to fight.
“All none combatants are to evacuate the commoners ward immediately! I repeat, All none combatants to evacuate the commoners ward immediately”
Rasputen yelled “And where the hell is that?!”
We just ran towards a door, and found ourselves trapped in a small square. An Immortal ran over and yelled “Good, you have the hall of Binding covered”, before he ran through the gates we had entered, which he closed (and locked) behind us. We stood there in horror.
“I think we’re done for” Sephectja muttered
“Oh really? I never noticed” Moriki said in frustration.

Chapter 15

We stood there, not knowing what to do, when we heard a man yell through a loud speaker device.
“Fellow Combatants! The future of the Empire rests on your shoulders! May we be victorious and bring glory to the Empress this day!”
An uproar of cheering erupted throughout the streets, echoing between the walls. And then the fighting began. In the small sector in which we were trapped, there was no fighting. We just stood in horror at the screams and shouts of the citizens as they fell in battle, and watched in terror as missiles of magical energy would shoot up into the and explode covering the blood-red sun from sight before the sparks would begin raining down like rain.
“This is insane” Verha yelled, furiously. She ran over to another door in the area and began yanking it as hard as we could. I knew she wouldn’t have been able to open it:
“Verha, that man said it’s the “Hall of Binding”, its obviously what the monsters are after…”
She turned around and leaned back on the door, before slumping to the floor in a heap, her head in her hands. Sephectja and Moriki had already devised a plan to escape. They both began summoning. Shiva and Garuda soon came bursting into the scene, gliding in the air. Shiva turned, and looked to the sun, shielding her face. Her lilac eyes where watery and soft, and she soon leapt shot towards the gate that the guard had locked us in. She began throwing bolts of ice at it, causing it to dent and crack. Garuda joined in, she closed her eyes and a huge storm on wind show from now where right at the door. It was working, but they needed more power. Sephectja dismissed Shiva, and summoned Ifrit to the scene. Within seconds, he erupted from the floor, and shot at the door like a cannonball, causing it explode into splinters all over the floor. Moriki dismissed Garuda, and began casting again, this time summoning Titan. Titan shot through where the door had been and began fighting right away, knocking the scaled Beastmen around like rag dolls, but he soon became of over run with creatures, and fell in a heap on the floor before evaporating into the sky. It was Sephectjas turn to re-summon. She called Fenrir who burst from the ground and howled over the chaos. He charged out and began pouncing on the Mamool Ja Beastmen, ripping the chests off and tearing out there insides all over the floor. This is where we joined in. Verha ran out at top speed, screaming “GET OVER HERE YOU BASTARDS”. One of the charged at her knocking her flying in the air. Whilst falling, she did a summersault, drew her Katana and landed on the floor in her battle stance, ready to fight. She cast Ususemi: Ni upon herself, and charged at the creature. Cleofis called his Wyvern, Eisenzahn, and drew his lance before leaping into the air and landing on his victim. Moriki and Sephectja set there Avatars on the monster, and Zendra ran out, his scythe at the ready. Blabj, Rasputen, the young White Mage and I ran to the scene and began healing everyone; the other adventurers disappeared for the exit. We fought until the monster fell, and then we attacked another. All around us we could see people and Beastmen falling to the ground. It was complete and utter chaos. After we had killed a second monster, we ran over to a Galkan man in crimson armour which was lined with golden markings. He fought ferociously, meeting the living hell out of the creatures when he fell, dropping a mirror on the floor which I dived for, but the creature punched me in the stomach causing me to be sent backwards and fall on the floor. I got to my feet and cured myself, and the monster had disappeared into the midst of the battle.
“THAT’S THE FOURTH GENERAL DOWN!” a man screamed
I could sense the panic in the mans voice.
“GET TO THE HALL OF BINDING”
As we where right next to it, we ran there. When we got there, we began healing, no monsters had reached here. Yet. Suddenly, the bright sky turned black, as though it was night, only darker. I could sense something was wrong, but also something familiar about it. The doorway burst into flames. We where locked in, and they where locked out, and then I saw him. Through the flames, my Father walked through, his eyes glowing red and his crossbow in hand.
“Out of my way” He said, his voice completely emotionless.
I stood there, the rest of my party stood behind me in a line.
“No” I replied, my voice trembling angrily.
He didn’t move.
“Anyone between me and the Astral Candescence dies.” He said, again, I could hear his voice getting angrier.
“I am not moving for you” I said again, my voice still shaking but out of fear and determination this time.
“I didn’t want to have to do this” He sighed, and pointed the crossbow at my heart.
“3…”
“Curjos! Move!” Screamed Sephectja.
“2…”
“Its not worth it” cried Blabj.
“1!”
I braced myself for the blow and closed my eyes. I heard nothing, just the bolt being shot from which seemed to be travelling as though it had gravity cast on it. I stood there, breathing heavily, before I opened my eyes. I looked in front of me, and Verha lay the squirming, everyone stood shocked.
I dived to her, and got to my knees and held her.
“C-Curjos…” She began, her voice was just a whisper. He shot another bolt in my direction, but I rolled out of the way, got to my feet and dived for him. I knocked him to the floor, but he got right back up and picked the 5 mirrors up he now possessed. Despite my attempts to attack him, he fought me off with no trouble at all. He walked to the door, and put each mirror on a recess on the door, which burst open in floods of light, he walked in, leaving me outside. I ran back for Verha, who was breathing heavily, her eyes were full of tears of pain. I tried casting Cure V on her, but nothing happened, she just lay there, about to die.
“No…” I said
“G-get him… and stop h-him” she groaned, before her head fell back…
Verha was dead.
I sat there nudging her, but she lay motionless. I felt a lump in my throat. Why hadn’t I moved? I pulled her eye lids closed, before getting to my feet. Sephectja ran at me and grabbed my arm to stop me from going through the door, but I just pushed her off me, before entering, and slamming the door shut behind me.

Chapter 16

I ran down the corridor that I had found behind the door. My hammer was drawn, and I was ready to fight, yet I knew it was futile. I would fall again, but I wanted to inflict pain upon him, like he had done so to me. It was the second person he had killed now, and it had gone too far. Tonight, one of us was going to die. I had never hated something so much in my entire life. My insides felt like they where on fire. If only I could get hold of that Crossbow. I was willing to completely defy the laws of a White Mage to get my revenge upon my father.

Within seconds, I reached a platform in the middle of a room, and there stood a huge stand which stood magnificently over the room. It was gold in colour, with blue stripes running across it and odd symbols located in the centre. There had been a semi-circle cut out of it, about half way up and in the stand, some kind on energy ball hovered, radiating waves of magical energy, its multi coloured light was filling the room. My father stood before it
“The Astral Candescence; Al Zahbi’s greatest treasure, the Imperial Pride and joy” He whispered.
He wanted it, and for some reason he had wanted me to witness it. We both just stood, staring into its light, basking in its glow.
“I want to hear the Astral Wind, Curjos” He spoke, his voice low and mysterious. I didn’t have a clue what the Astral Wind was, but I just stood there, silent, my hands clenched into a tight fist.
“The Astral wind is allows us to manipulate our energy into such a power, that anything we want can come true” His words where quiet
“If you want it so bad, just fucking take it” I yelled through gritted teeth.
“Now, now Curjos. Don’t speak to your father like that” He laughed.
“YOU’RE NOT MY FATHER” I screamed, my face red and boiling. I stood there, breathing heavily as though I was out of breath.
“That’s where you’re wrong.” He said manically.
“I’m nothing like you” I muttered angrily.
“As much as you hate to admit it, deep down you know we’re alike.”
I hadn’t anything I could reply to that. I didn’t want to speak to him, just looking at him made me sick.
“I hate you.” That is all I could say…
He burst out laughing “Well, whether you like it or not, you’re going to help me manipulate the Astral Wind.”
I didn’t reply; he obviously had some way of influencing, because he knew that I wasn’t going to cooperate.
“Never”
“Hahaha, you think you have a choice in the matter? There, Curjos, you are sadly mistaken.” He laughed “So? Could you tell me what it sounds like?”
“You can’t hear it?” I replied in surprise.
“No, it isn’t legible to the ears of a mortal”
My mind began whizzing. “What was he on about?” He had just implied I wasn’t mortal, but then what was I?
“I knew you where going to be a mage, after the kind of ‘gifts’ your mother had. And now, you’re going to allow me to harness them”
“You’re insane” I told him.
“Well, my son, you will soon grant an insane man ultimate power”
I shrugged, but before I could do anything else he pointed at me. He shot dark purple magic at me which seemed to ooze out of his fingers and surround me, picking me up and launching me into the Astral Candescence.

I opened my eyes, and I found myself floating in complete blackness. I could see nothing except my own body. I could see nothing except for darkness. Where was I? I yelled “HELP!” but nothing happened, I just lay there, floating in nothingness. I began thinking of what had happened to Verha. I closed my eyes; silent tears began leaking from them. I opened my eyes and wiped them away. Then, I noticed that small bright lights had appeared, like stars. I looked around, and they had surrounded me. I returned to thinking about Verha’s fate, and then the lights went berserk. They all shot in front of me, making a white ball which was glowing white. It then began expanding, growing bigger and bigger until it was at least 5 times as big as me. It carried on growing, before it exploded giving off a nova which turned everything it touched into white light, there was no more darkness left. I spun round in mid-air, and noticed chunks of the light began to break from the huge white cloak which had covered the darkness. Behind it, I saw an array of different colours and patterns, and once all of the light was gone, I was left standing in Al Zahbi, watching myself stand in front of my father. I saw myself close my eyes, and saw him shoot the cross bow. Verha dived in the way and I ran, to push her to safety. Just as I reached mid-air, and was about to move her, everything stopped, and she appeared in the scene surrounded by orbs of light which where orbiting her.
“Curjos” She called, her voice echoing throughout the area which was stuck on a stand-still. I ran over to her.
“Look, saving me will only stop what you are meant to do”
“I don’t care” I told her, my voice normal.
“I died for a reason. You have to understand that” She said softly, her words were some how soothing yet painful. I turned away from her, facing towards her past self before she was shot and died. I went to move her, and she grabbed my shoulder and said “please”, that is all she said, before fading, leaving only the white orbs of light which soon flew into the sky.
Time then began playing, and I saw the bolt fly right into her heart, and I saw her fall. I fell to the ground and wept. I screamed into the Al Zahbi, obviously nobody had heard me because time just kept playing as it had happened. I walked over to her body when I had left after my Father. I saw my book on the floor, and began thinking “what are you”. The scene then seemed to shatter, leaving me standing in a Gustaberg night, standing behind a Male and Female Hume, who where stood facing the sea and talking.
“Kari” the man said softly, holding her hand “I’ve been called away to Tavnazia to fight.”
I knew automatically who they where, they where my parents.
They both stood there staring out to the sea.
“I-” Kari began
“What?” My father asked her curiously.
“I’m pregnant” She told him.
I could see from the way my Dad was standing that he was shocked. He stood for a while before walking off towards Bastok, leaving my mother standing there crying softly, her tears blowing in the wind and into the ocean.
I walked up to her, and put my hand on her shoulder. Although she didn’t see me, she stopped crying immediately, and put her hand on her shoulder, touching my hand. She smiled softly, before turning around to leave towards Bastok. She passed through me, and I could feel her presence. I followed her into the city.

She soon reached her home, and I watched as she fell back into her seat. She pointed at the fire place and sparks of White Magic shot from her hands, shooting into the fireplace causing the timber in it to burst into flames. My father then burst into the scene and began tearing through the house screaming “WHERE THE HELL IS IT?”
My mother shot towards a book case, and picked up a book; my book. He walked over and magically stunned her before picking up the book. She then held her hands out and spoke words from a foreign language. He opened the first page which was blank, he had expected this. But when he began to turn the pages, he saw nothing.
“Only people of my own can read it now, Zadfon” She laughed.
My father walked up to her, and pushed her to the ground in a rage.
“Like that thing growing inside of you?” He retorted, viscously.
Without another word, he turned away from her and left the house. My mothers eyes began watering, the book lay on the floor. I went to pick it up and then the scene began melting again.

The next thing I new, I was in Windurst. My mother was sat looking slightly older, and she was sat next to a young version of Larroh Jakobah. They where sat on chairs, watching two toddlers running around playing with each other, Sephectja and I.
“What is it, Karrri?” Larroh Jakobah asked, her stern voice that I had known was now playful and soft.
“I’m worried, Larroh” She whispered so nobody but her could hear. She continued “Something bad is about to happen”
“Hm…? I think you’rrre just being parrra-” Larroh began, but Kari soon interrupted her
“Look, I want you to promise me; what ever happens to me, you will care for Curjos”
“But…?”
”Look, Larroh, I need you to do this for me. When the day comes when he leaves home, I want you to give him this.” She handed Larroh Jakobah the book.
“Why?”
She didn’t answer, she ran away into the distance. I went over to Larroh to try and grab the book; I wanted to know where I was. I grabbed it, and it exploded into darkness which began melting away into my next location with the rest of my surroundings. I now found myself at my home before I left. It was night, and Sephectja and I didn’t appear to be there. The book was lying on the table, Larroh Jakobah stood over it, look nervous. She turned the first page and read the inside note. She frowned as she turned the page again, her face screwing up in anger, it soon went red and she slammed the book shut. She slumped down in her chair. I hard ran her fingers through her White hair. There was knock at the door. She stood up and walked over towards the door. She slowly opened it. From where I was standing I couldn’t see who was at the door, but I did see a huge burst of fire erupting from the door way, causing Larroh Jakobah to be sent flying in the air. She drew her daggers and grabbed onto the light, swing across the room before doing some sort of acrobatic summersault, before landing on the ground. My father had entered the room, his scythe drawn. He shot another jet of fire, and she back-flipped out the way, before shooting towards him and slashing his face. He bought his hand across the wound on his face, blood began dripping from it. He smiled, maniacally. He ran at her and she jumped in the air, flipping over him before stabbing him in the back, well, attempting to, it was block by his amour. He shot a spike of ice which hit her, impaling her through her stomach. He grabbed her by the hair and dragged her upwards.
“You gonna tell me where it is or am I going to have beat it out of you?”
“I’m affrrraid my good sirrr, that you’rrre going to have to beat it out of me” She replied, cockily. He raised his fist in there, and shot it towards her face. She pulled out the spear of ice and rammed it into his face. He screamed loudly, before tossing her to the floor. He began casting a spell, and suddenly the wound closed up, reappearing on her face. She clasped her cheek and screeched. She ran upstairs.
“Here little kitty” My father called callously up the stairs.

Once he had climbed them, he walked into each room, torching it, until there was one room left, her bedroom. He kicked down the door and looked around.
“You can’t hide from me” He called into the room with a mocking tone to his voice.
“I obviously can” She laughed.
I could see him looking left and right for her, and from outside the door I saw her fall on his head from the ceiling. He pushed her off, causing her to crash onto her bed, her face was still bleeding. He ran up to her and grabbed her dagger, pointing it at her leg; his other hand has pinning her down to the bed.
“Give me the book”
“No” she determinedly, and she then spat in his face. He drove the dagger into her leg causing her to scream.
“I’m goin…-” He began, but Larroh leaned up and head butted him. He then drove then lunged at her heart with the dagger, and again like last time I ran to stop it, and as I got close time stopped again.
“Currrjos, stop!”
I turned and Larroh was there, again in white robes and surrounded by the orbs. She walked up to me and put her hand on my cheek.
“I’m so prrroud of you” She purred happily.
“I need to stop this from happening” I told her, sternly
“You can’t. Everything you’ve become is because of this moment. You should know that now…”
I was beginning to understand, this is also what Verha had said.
“If you want answers, go back to the night where I received the book, and follow your mother.”
The entire world began to fade, and when it reappeared I was standing by mother in her Mog House, who was pulling on her Valour Artifact Armour. I followed her out of the Mog House, it was apparent that this was the night that Windurst was destroyed, I new this because Larroh had told me that this was the night she “found” me. There was nobody in the street, and it must have been the early evening, when Tarutaru could normally be seen enjoying themselves having summer parties and things. She left the gate to Sarutabaruta, and it was chaos. There where mages everywhere fighting Yagudo, who where flooding through the plains like water. My mother began fighting, but fighting through them, heading towards Tahrongi Canyon. The Yagudo barely put up a fight against her; I didn’t even know what she was casting on them. She kept throwing bolts of magic, which exploded like Holy upon contact. Once she reached the end, we both saw my father standing there, commanding the Yagudo. She jumped in the air, and began glowing with a bright light. She shot towards him through the air, flying at him with her sword drawn. She slashed across his chest causing his armour to tear in half, and his chest to open with blood pouring out, but her merely flinched. He closed his eyes and his blood turned thick and black and began covering his wound before closing up. I stood next to my mother, in awe, but this didn’t stop her. She charged at him again slicing another hole in his armour, and the same thing happened. He laughed callously. However hard she tried she could hurt him.
“What did you do…?”
“Wouldn’t you like to know?” He laughed whilst flinging his scythe at her, my mother just threw a Banish IV spell at him, I had never seen it before, and I had to shield my eyes from the explosion it caused. He spat poison at her, but she shot into the night sky, her bright aura made her looked like a star, and soon my father shot into the sky surrounded by an aura of black. All I could see from where I was stood was streaks of light and darkness flying at each other. I stood and watched for about 10 minutes, and then the bolt of light shot towards the ground, causing an explosion as she hit it. She whimpered on the floor, and then my father shot down, he was now equipped with a Great Sword. As he shot downwards, he pointed the Great Sword at her throat, and again time stopped, just as he was millimetres away from her heart. I spun around, and my mother was there, glowing like everyone. She said nothing; she just walked up to me and held my arm, as time began moving again, she still stood there. The Great Sword landed in her chest, and she screamed loudly.
“Well, Kari, your time is up.” He panted
“He will stop you”.
Those where her last words, and with this, everything faded to black again as it had when it began.
“I made a promise, Curjos.” She began.
Another mass of light began to form next to her, which soon formed into Verha.
“Curjos, stop him, please.”
And again, more light appeared from the darkness, and Larroh Jakobah stood before me.
“We will always be with you”
They each took each others hands, and closed there eyes. There was a huge explosion of light, and they disappeared, leaving behind a magnificent sword, the handle was embedded with 3 crystals. I knew what those crystals where. I read a marking on the blade which read “Judgement”. I tossed my hammer, and I new I was forsaking my beliefs as a White Mage, but I wanted revenge. I held the sword in front of me, and the crystals began glowing. I slashed the darkness around me, and it tore leaving a rip. I tore a square out with my sword, and saw my father standing by the Astral Candescence, staring maniacally at it. I didn’t want to return, but I knew what I had to. I closed my eyes, and jumped through the square, and was reunited with him. He looked at my sword, and grinned hungrily. He ran up to me and I slashed it in his direction, causing his armour to split. I attacked him again, and on contact with his skin, huge lights exploded causing him to be sent backwards. His eyes began glowing red, and he screamed in pain. His armour began repairing itself, and he then burst into flames of darkness. Instead of giving off light, it drew all the light around him into it. The only one of his features I could see, where his cold red eyes.
“Curjos!” The young White Mage girl darted into the scene.
“NO!!!” I screamed, but she ran right at him. He turned around, creating a ball of darkness in his hand which he shot at her. It hit her in the chest, and she fell to the floor, face down I ran to her, and turned her over, and her face was drawing in light like he was. She was crying, and soon her entire body was irradiating with evil energy. She cried loudly, screaming which echoed throughout the room making the walls seem to shake. Her body began fading into nothing, she was still screaming. Within seconds she was gone. He had killed an innocent young girl, who had done nothing wrong, ever. My sword began shaking, and I drew it again. A new jewel had appeared in the sword, and it was now glowing with white energy. I didn’t even speak; I just ran at him and began viscously beating him around with the sword. With every slash, I left a huge gaping tear in his dark exterior which was emitting light. I mashed him. I took all of my rage out at this point, screaming and crying in pain, finally able to get my revenge. Soon, he buckled and fell to the floor, hissing like a wraith. The darkness faded, leaving behind his body which had been torn into ribbons. I ran towards him pointing my sword at his bleeding throat. For a second, he did nothing, just stared into my eyes, and I stared back. I had one; I was going to kill him. I raised my sword with both hands, and thrust it downwards, but couldn’t kill him. I couldn’t bring myself to kill him. He was lying there in pain, pathetically weeping now. I left towards the door.
“W-what?” He stammered in shock.
“You’re too pathetic to murder, you’re going to die any ways, I’ll just let the rest of the world deal with you.”
I left, towards the entrance, and I heard him shoot his crossbow. Immediately, I turned around and slashed it in half with my sword, before running to him, leaping in the air and shooting down at his throat, stabbing him in the throat, and walking away, leaving his motionless body lying there, blood still dripping from my sword.

Chapter 17

2 days had past, and the date and time for the trial had been set, and stood. The verdict was that since we had saved the Astral Candescence that we where free to live in Al Zahbi. We have recently been hired as mercenaries as we have no money, but we where trapped here with no way to escape. I hadn’t seen anyone since I had escaped, and we would meet again that evening for Verha’s funeral, nobody new about the girl who had died. I had also, for some reason, lost the abilities of a White Mage, so I have now become a Black Mage until I can figure out how to become one again, but I have a feeling that I won’t be able to become one again.

Before the funeral, I met with Sephectja.
“Time to go” she muttered.
I sighed, and followed her towards the burial sight in the Aydeewa Subeterrane.
“It’s a shame you didn’t manage to kill that bastard who killed her” Sephectja muttered, and this where I am today.

The End
