Ok i bite the bullet and started synthing with darksteel ore within the past few days. Over all its been a Pleasent exsperiance BUT Yesterday I exsperianced a sharp pain in my Wallet >.< i broke 3 in a row loseing my darksteel ore each time ;_; 75k Poof.... gone... to say the least i was kinda pissed But ill get over it. I' mean On FIRESDAY and moghancement: fire with 47.8 Smithing and Synth support......i Mean Come on....

I mean Come on , take the IRON not the damn Darksteel when synth fails ;_;

Oh well im done :P by the way im kinda poor so 25k per ore is a bit pricey for me atm I so remeber when the price was 8k per darksteel ore oh how i miss those days

Yeah.. wait till you start loosing 800k per synth.

Lately I hate crafting =[

IGE is never out of gil my friends. So no worries! kekekekeke

Smithers skilling up on DS ingots who dont just go to Gusgen to get their DS ore are morons.

It doesn't matter if you farm your materials or not. People who don't understand that are 'morons'. If you farm it, that item = gil. If you farm it and break it, you just lost gil. Farming materials doesn't equate to free crafting. You could just as easily farm something more profitable, sell that, and buy your materials. The only thing you accomplish by directly farming your materials is bypassing the sell/buy sections, which could actually be more profitable for your time spent than farming your materials.

I totally agree Rones.

Though I will say this: there are ways to minimize the amount of time you spend farming materials, most especially for any of the HELM crafts, since TH has little to no demonstrable effect on HELM results from all I've seen. As someone who very much prefers to cut out the middle man wherever feasible, I pay a great deal of attention to /clock during the week and plan my nights accordingly.

For instance, I bet that Oldton Movalpolos during the 48 (RL) minutes of Darksday would provide a decent amount of Darksteel. Also, results will stay consistently better through the upper arc of the lunar cycle.

Hope this helps :)

Especially ones that made a thread asking how a lvl 71 PLD can make gil.

in my days of mining at work i came accross maybe 1 in 9hrs of mining. that seems kind of low when i could make a few stacks of iron sheets for more then the price of that ore, be better off just buying the ore imo. but farm up something else the buy the material.

You were very unlucky and mining at a bad time most likely. I usually get at least 4 out of 4 stacks of picks, got 9 the other day. I use 4 stacks of picks in 2-3 hours, so thats at least 35k an hour or so, I consider that quite good, considering I'm a 62 summoner. I dont know what rate you can farm at as a 71 PLD though.

Ok in my own defense i do do some mining in Gusgen, 5 of the last 12 ores i used i mined from gusgen. BUT the way i see it is that even blowing up Mined Ore still hits the wallet cause thats 25k or 35-40k i COULD have made.

Another form of my current income is the Desynth of Goblin Mails and Helms casue at my Skill the sucess right for me is pretty high ^^ and i Only Desynth when i have crystals i dont buy them to desynth with. Ussually when Mining in Gusgen i see 1 or more Lightning elements which i then proceed to slaughter. But even if i desynth them to steel it only bags me 8-9k profit

But Buying Darksteel ore Saves time and i really enjoy smithing cause i can make armor for my friends ^^

Mining your ore is mostly worthwhile when not too many other people are doing it and/or your more typical farming spots where you can pull in decent gil/hour are overcamped. It can also be a good way to increase your mining endurance, since stacked ingots take a lot less space than loose ore. ^^

But 35k/hr is definitely on the low end of what a 71 PLD is capable of farming under half-decent conditions, to say the least. My own runs in Gusgen tended to be more on the lines of 50k/hr minimum, but I haven't been back in a while, so it's hard to say how heavily mined it is these days.

35k an hour was just for darksteel ores. I didnt factor in my brass, bronze and iron ingots, gold ores, coloured rocks or lightning clusters.

Ah, that makes more sense then. :D

Though I know at least one of the mining bots in Qufim has moved on to greener pastures... Since I see the bastard camping Morion Worm 24/7 lately. :/

amazes me people dont know what opportunity costs are...

Lol, economic profit vs. accounting profit 4tw.

I paid 30k a synth on demon arrowheads, which is comprable to dsteel. I never farmed them, am I a retard? If going demon arrowheads -> demon arrows w/ multiple breaks while still making a profit makes me retarded...yeah. The only thing I have not done out of mining, digging, logging, and harvesting is logging. Do these things to make money, not to skillup, it would be spending hours upon hours for 3 synths in some cases.
