Going back in time in FFXI kind of reminds me of Dragon Warrior 3 when you go to the past before Dragon Warrior 1, and a lot of the towns are there, but they're different, and the entire world is a bit darker with slower and more mellow music.

Snake, you've created a time paradox!

It's nice so far. The biggest freak-out for me is seeing Garlaige Citadel in the past... when it's not a complete shithole.

Garliage didnt even last a month once it was complete.
Elmer's pointy history said:
12.862 – The Royal Knights complete Garlaige Citadel

- The Beastmen Army’s main forces amass around Jeuno.

1.863 – Garlaige Citadel is destroyed.

Fuck! I'm my own grandfather!
i knew there was something wrong with you.......:shok:

but im liking the new area's looks and all but they gotta do something with these mobs. i was fighting an decent challenge mobs and it was slappin me aroung like a tough. and the gnoles are mean lil suckers on full moons. they hit like they have hundred fists going and have a healing move, while it looks awesome, puts a dhamal's healing breese to total shame. it looks almost like howling moon.

i cant wait till they start opening up the rest of the towns and add more areas.

Don't hold your breath on too many more new areas. Every expansion so far has had every area it would ever have, listed in the .dat containing all the area names. (Although Temenos and Apollyon got their names changed when they were released.)

So far, Wings of the Goddess has the following areas which are in the .dats but aren't yet available:

Davoi
Castle Oztroja
Beadeaux
Beaucedine Glacier
Xarcabard
Castle Zvahl Baileys
Castle Zvahl Keep
Throne Room
Everbloom Hollow
Ghoyus Reverie
Ruhotz Silvermines
Walk of Echoes

The last one is likely the funky looking place where you meet Cait Sith. The other three without are unclear (although quite sizeable, they've each got more than half a dozen map screens). There are also three - yet unavailable - map key items in the .dats, for those three areas. (None for Walk of Echoes, implying it's a mapless area, so either some sort of BC or some sort of endgame area.)

Anyway, notable places that *aren't* there include, well, everywhere else. Jeuno, Tavnazia, Selbina, Mhaura, Aht Urhgan (no surprise there), and outdoor areas aplenty. Past Jeuno has potential to be one of those "can only visit during cutscenes" places though.

Those 3 are Assault areas. Silvermines is likely to be Bastok, Everbloom Hollow = San d'Oria, and Ghoyos Reviere = Windurst. Can teleport to them by using the "Allied Ensignia" or w/e they're called.

Heh. I got a surprise when I attacked those Too Weak little green toads hopping around West Sarutabaruta. I was thinking they'd die in one hit like a Tiny Mandragora from the present, so it caught me off guard when it started smacking me around like Ike Turner. His buddies jumped in. I killed them, but it might've gone differently if I'd been on White Mage instead of Beastmaster.

I also killed one of the bombs in the Crawler's Nest. The saplings were Easy and the bomb was Decent; and it took three saplings to bring it down.

As Osse pointed out to me:

It's no wonder that Garlaige fell so fast, the idiot San d'Orians have the cannons pointed towards the inside of the citadel.

Garlaige Citadel is too empty, I've only seen maybe a few NPCs in that entire place, and so many rooms and hallways, everywhere else is empty, that's probably another reason that place fell.

FFXI past is just like our past:

People really did have to walk fifteen miles up hill both ways. Batallia to Bastok is like a half an hour jaunt.

Their dances were weird and strange to our standards. In future FFXI no one dances.

Technology was being used for the wrong reasons. Cannons pointed AT the walls of your citadel, San d'Oria?

Those Toads in West sarutabaruta are decent chalenge at level 53, do not aggro but link.

Why dont they have S in the name? Even "new" places like Grauberg and VUnkerl do.

You did the nasty in the pasty huh?
yes and that past nastification is why he is missing the delta brain wave O.o

but yeah has anyone ran accross any cause and effects for past and persent that are parely noticable or extremly noticable, like are ther alot of pointed rocks in saruta?

Ah... I'll have to look into that some more, then. (I assume you meant Campaign, not Assault, though.)

If so, then their maps may not be quested, but may be in the style of Salvage or Assault maps where they simply plop into your key item list when you go there and unplop right back out (... annoying, why can't they just stay to expand the collection?) when you leave.

oh does anyone know what happens when you attempt a teleport in the past?

You are teleported to your home nation in the past.
