The Pit is a battle arena located in Al Zahbi where players will be able to select monsters to fight against other NPC/players' monsters for fame, glory, and prizes. Here are some of the details outlined on the 13th:

1. Players will not be able to control the monsters, but will be able to give certain commands.
2. Players will be able to collect "DNA-like" information from monsters across Vana'diel. That data can be then used to create a monster usable in the Pit.
3. The monsters you create will (probably) be customizable in some form.
4. The Pit will be open for business sometime later this summer.
5. There may also be a type of betting system available.

This is one of the things announced at the 5th anniversary party, its obviously going to be at the colosium. Well discuss!

Awesome... It's kinda like what they had in FFX too except you're fighting the monsters instead, but yeah, I guess it's like monster rancher or pokemon or something. Sounds really neat, can't wait :D
 
I wonder if it will be like the chocobo raising where you have to get an egg and raise your monster. haha how cool would that be to see a baby king Behe.
Oh well, prolly not but this does look like a cool addition to FFXI

Anybody else have a comparison? You mean FFXI isnt the first game evar created? Shittttt....wat have I been missinnn? darrrrrr.
 
the only, oooooooonly thing i really need to come outta tha colloseum, is NO penalty for f'n gear swaps...

Now imagine catching Behemoth DNA =o

(I hear Limbus has normal Behemoths running around but I haven't been there so I don't know)

I somehow doubt you'll be able to catch NM's and beastmen :p

I'll so get a bunny of doom. Or a dhalmel to call "Mother"
 
Bah. I keep on Dcing before I can put in the obligatory pokemon joke I madeup when this was annnounced like a week ago.
 
Uragnite, I choose you! Thats the most pokemon-ish name/monster Ive seen in FFXI...
 
It kinda sounds like you'll be combining DNA to create horrible abominations. IE, Bunny with Bat wings, Scorpion tail, and Crab Claws. I'll name mine takethatgod! Certainly would fit with the empire's history of genetic tinkering. >.>
