Yesterday at about 3 pm I was not in a good place. The Fenrir party I was hooked up with looked like it might not come off - three no shows. But our fearless leader, Hecate, found three very righteous people to fill in, and it was awesome!
The party wound up being:
Chaotichecate, RDM, party leader
Sidd, BRD, strategist
Aurbis, NIN, tank
Broden, MNK, DD
Willan, RDM, debuffs/backup heal
Firebrand, WHM, healer
Ran in quick to take advantage of lightday (we were way behind on the timing we'd initially planned), buffed up, adopted a strategy and went in. Had partial wipe the first time, as Howling Moon got our tank, Aurbis, but no one had two houred at that point. Raised, dusted ourselves off, got ready and went right back in.
First half no problems at all, tank and others were so effin good I don't think I needed more than one Cure III. We'd decided on going for broke, so I didn't waste time on recasting Reraise when Fenrir knocked it off. If Aurbis had died again I'd planned on recasting then while others kept Fennie busy.
At 55%, BRD 2-houred. Then a few seconds later, when Howling Moon hit, I had my finger on the Benediction macro and everyone was cured right up. Aurbis was so good at keeping hate, Fenrir never even made a move toward me. After that, it was a matter of finishing him off. Broden took it on the chin shortly thereafter, but Hecate and Willan took over on cures while I raised Broden, and we were all alive and doing fine when he finally went down (a few minutes into darkday, but by that time Fenrir was all but done). In all, an awesome battle, and great fun!
The party makeup was a bit different from what one usually hears about Fenrir fights but it worked very well. I think a good part of that was the quality of the people.
Thank you so very much to all who participated. Hecate did an awesome job of leading and of getting people to help out when some of the original group didn't show. I wish I had her people skills! ^^ Sidd is just an all around good guy and a very good strategist. Our plan was tight and it worked. And even with the partial wipe at first he was ever the optimist. Broden was a rock! Took everything in stride, kept working at it and Kicked the puppy's purple arse between its ears! Willan just plain was always there, and stepped up real fast to do what needed to be done. And Aurbis tanked like a magician. I have never previously used Benediction and had the mob not even so much as look at me.
As I stumble through my summoning adventures, proudly with the purple puppy at my heels, I will remember how I got him, and who I was with when I did.
