Info on the remake here.

When I was 13, my mom exposed me to RHPS for the first time, and for the last ten years, I have loved the cult classic. Probably not to the extreme of some fans, but I have seen it done in theatre, own two sound tracks, and dressed up as Janet from the Floor Show scene twice to attend my university Anthropology Society's screening of the show (I even have a picture! but probably not to be seen here)

That being said, I am not sure how I feel about a remake of the film. The original cast was excellent; Tim Curry is to die for.

From what I have read, Richard O'Brien, the creator of RHPS, refuses to have anything to do with this remake, and actor Barry Bostwick (the original Brad) has also spoken against it.

While the original movie itself is no masterpiece, it still is a good cult film and I'm not sure it needs to be remade for the 'new' generation, as MTV has claimed. The film may also include new musical pieces and its rumored that Miley Cyrus may be playing a part.

So, I'm sure there are a few other fans out there. What do you think of this? As sad as it is to say, I would probably watch it, only to see how bad it is in comparison to the original.

Miley Cyrus is about as ugly as Susan Sarandon, is all I'll say.

I haven't ever been one of the rabid fans, but I've always kind of been fascinated by the following it has. I wouldn't mind going to a showing one Halloween just to say I've done it. Maybe even dress up, who knows. lol :sm:

I honestly can't see this movie being remade, especially by mtv, without sucking. The campiness of the original was what made it such a hit, and you simply cannot replace Tim Curry in that role. You just can't.

I honestly wouldn't even want to see a new one.

are why I would be against it. Miley Cyrus is WAY too young to do a project with this much of an adult theme. I don't think the movie needs to be remade. I think MTV is trying to get some cash off of Miss Cyrus just like Disney did. Yeah the film isn't the apex of cinema but I think if they were going to remake it that they should look to some of the people who are currently doing shows and doing an excellent job of it. This is definitely a project that you would need actors/actresses who are fans of it to make it work. It's not really a mainstream project.

Dressing up and doing call backs at a live show or a screening of the movie is one of the best things about this production. I highly recommend it if you're able to do it.

I have dressed up as Columbia and my sister was Magenta for a Time Warp party that ended up that they played the movie on a screen with no volume and hardly anyone was dressed up. Heck the band was playing their own songs (which my sister and I are fans of the band) and when they played Time Warp they didn't know the words. One of the guys in the band thanked us for coming dressed up. He gave us a box of Junior Mints as a thank you. lol I want to go to a real showing one day. It was fun working on the costumes.

I know how I feel. It's a travesty. The movie is fine the way it is... bad. Trying to improve it would cause it to lose all the stuff that makes it so great.

This is very true. I guess what I meant is I feel very apathetic. I don't like the idea of a remake, because I find nothing in the original that needs to be remade, but I'm not going to jump on the "sign the petition and protest the remake" bandwagon.

I'm not quite sure why they even feel there has to be a remake. The original has been released on DVD and there are still play theaters in existence that perform it live. It's not like it needs to be remade to remind us that it is still around.

Also - Stine, I was also one of the very few that dressed up. There was probably ten of us all together. When I saw it live, it was at University of Toronto and my friend and I were not sure if we were allowed to dress up. In fact, only one person at that show did dress up, and there was a full house.

Ah, okay. I see what you mean. I wouldn't sign a petition or protest, either. It'll be more fun to watch it get made and then spiral down in flames.

This movie is one of those classics that the thought of a remake will make millions of people cringe. I've never been a huge fan (I had a friend that used to do the in-theater performance which I got dragged to a few times), but I still have enough respect for it and its fan that I think this remake is a bad idea.

I totally agree with this. And really? From Disney to RHCP? Horrible idea...

Miley Cyrus was only a rumor I heard on the radio when they announced the remake. In fact, I think they said Cyrus and Lindsay Lohan were rumored to be casted. Since its MTV and they love to cater to the young generation and all their fads, I think we can expect some teen bopper favourites to be featured. Bleagh.

I am curious to who they would chose for the cast, because I really don't think any one could top Tim Curry. Another rumor that doesn't surprise me based on the company insisting this remake, but still horrifies me greatly is that Marilyn Manson has been approached to play Frank-N-Furter. I have nothing against Manson, but this choice seems almost predictable.

I think the idea of a remake is great. But the idea of an MTV remake? Terrible. They're probably just trying to cash in after High School Musical somehow did so well. But hey, since kids apparently like that trash, a decent show like Rocky Horror probably won't do so well.

This is an afront to all that is great about RHPS! I have gone to the screenings and live productions (dressed up as Frank-N-Furter or Brad) and I must say MTV must have had a serious brain fart if they think they are gonna make any money out of this. I for one WOULD sign a petition telling them NOT to make this movie. The original is great and doesnt need fixing!

Just.... why?

I can understand taking something bad and remaking it so it is good, but Rocky Horror Picture Show was done perfectly and can't get any better. It makes no sense to try and remake perfection because you are just going to come up short.

I can think of few networks that would be more out of touch with the RHPS than MTV. I can see how a remake could happen, but MTV is not the group of people that could do it.

I just read that MTV would be remaking it, and I instantly knew it will probably not do well.

If they had done this 15 years ago it probably would have been fucking awesome. But MTV in 2008 doesn't know SHIT about real music, or real entertainment. And seriously what cinema is gonna let you throw shit around 7 showings a day for 6 weeks it just wont be the same.
