I am a Taru Black Mage, and I dont feel like spending 20000 for Drain, so i figured i would do the Sandoria Quest The Rumor to get it, but I ran into a problem. I found Novalmauge in Bostaunieux Oubliette, but when I talk to him he tells me "People with no buisness down here should leave." I tried trading him Beastman's blood, but that did nothing. Can someone please help me with this.

My San d'Oria fame isn't that high, maybe level 2 or 3, and I got the quest last night. I've done about 8 or 9 quests in San d'Oria, 10 at the most. So that should be enough, I think. Though not that I think about it, I've done the moss run once or twice in Selbina, so that might've affected it somewhat.

Just remembered that I'm also a Rank 4 Windurstian. I've heard that your rank affects fame somewhat, so that might have some bearing on the fact that I was able to get the quest. My Drain scroll sold last night for 18k. ^^ I tried selling it for 20k, but it wouldn't sell, so I lowered it to 18, and eventually it sold. I'm just happy for that much. ^^ Got a stack of Thief Tools with some of the money, so now I just need to get Tonko: Ichi, and maybe some more Silent Oils, and I'll be ready to get my RSE. ^^
 
i talked to kyriel the other night. she said she did get another set of thief tools.

But she missed her RSE week in ordelles :P

I was there. I got my mithran loincloth. Next its either gauntlets or seperates. (hopefully kyriel will be there)
 
Just to clarify, I'm about 99% sure that rank and fame are completely unrelated. I know several people who have built up fame with rank 1 mules and gotten these quests, and I've also known several rank 4+ people who never bothered with San d'Orian quests and didn't have the fame to do this.

You're correct that Rank and Fame are completely unrelated, and Quests require just fame to access. In the case of this Quest, however, the NPC is located in an area that's inaccessable unless you have Rank 2 (Sandoria) or are on the final mission to obtain Rank 3 (Windurst, Bastok).

There's no way into the Chateau for a Rank 1 mule.
