The sixth (and final?) season of The Shield starts tonight! Is anyone else as excited as I am? I need some friggin' closure after the end of last season.

Halfway through the first season, I developed a man-crush on Michael Chiklis. Best cop show ever.

Vic Mackey: ::after shooting a dog:: Sir, I'm telling you, the kid had no choice. The dog was reaching. It was kill or be killed.
Captain Monica Rawling: Oh come on, Roy. The dog had a piece, he was gonna use it.

They signed up to do a seventh (and definitely final) season before they even got around to finishing shooting the sixth. Finished going through season five on DVD Saturday. I love that show.

I'm tempted to start watching tonight, but the only way I've ever experienced The Shield was as marathon DVD-viewing with Neyla. We just spent the last two or three weeks working our way through the first five seasons.

I'd love to see the insane look of discomfort on that rat-bastid Shane's face, though.

I stopped watching it when Shane did "what he did" to LemonTop. I couldn't stand it. Can anyone tell me some quick recap of the most interesting things between that and this season's premiere? ^^

That was the last episode of season five, so nothing has happened between then and tonight's season opener.

Except for the online mini-episode yeah the "event" between Shane and Lem was the end of the season. I'll see if I can find the link for the mini-episode.

A little under 2 hours until the premire!!!

It's been a little over a year, something like 53 or 54 weeks.

They take about a year between seasons. It's always started up again in either March or April. It's not network TV, even if it's not HBO or Showtime, so they don't have to play by that sort of timetable.

I dug it. I dug it a lot. I don't have the best track record on watching the series when it airs - I usually just get caught up when the DVDs finally come out - but I think it'll be appointment viewing for me from now on.

God, I hate Kavanaugh so much.

Well you can actually justify it now. As much as I hate to admit it, considering my love for Mackey and the Strike Team, Kavanaugh was the actual "hero" of season five, at least as far as the rest of society would be concerned. Mackey is a villain with occassional flashes of humanity and a steadfast moral compass when it comes to the actions of others, but he's a villian nonetheless. He simply seems less of one because he sometimes does things you wish could do yourself, and because he's the person best suited to handle villains who are even worse than he is (i.e. Armadillo and Antwon).

I'm sure we'll talk about it in-game at some point, where there's less concern for spoilers and all that.

Yeah, I never thought about it like that, and that's a really good point. As much as I hate to say it, Kavanaugh really was 'the good guy' last season.

But he's a douche this season. Shoot me a /tell sometime.

I'm suspecting that Forest Whittaker will be dealt with this season since those silly gold statues tend to spike an actors price.

I have been waiting, and waiting, and waiting, and waiting, and waiting for Mackey to find pictures of Acevada sucking that guys shaft. I've been on board since the first episode; I feel I'm owed. Plus I just plain hate Acevada.

Dutch keeled that cat too, and they never did anything with it. Between that, Acevada sucking dick, the illigetimate child, Shane's betrayal, Kavanaugh being up in everyones shit again, and this whole forced retirement thing, this promises to be one hellova season.

Dirt was a wonderful tide-me-over show. I'll definatley be returning next season for that one.

I'm thinking this season will be Vic vs Kavanaugh, and next season will be Vic vs Shane.

I had forgotten all about that Aceveda wang-mouthing. Good times.

I watched a few episodes of Dirt, but I didn't care for it. I can't stand Courtney Cox, and the script just seemed bleh.

They actually filmed the Whitaker stuff last year, before his stock went up. I don't know how far he played into the run, but they made 21 episodes and split them into two seasons (11 for season five, 10 for season six).

The initial plan was to have those shows bring the series to an end, but the network asked for season seven about halfway through the process and they had to tweek things. Shawn Ryan is pretty emphatic that season seven will definitely be the end though.

I expect Mackey in a bodybag or in prison by the end of it all. More likely the bodybag. There's no happy retirement to Florida for a guy like that.

One of the things I love about this show is that the main characters are the traditional bad guys (crooked cops) but are written/acted in such a way that you end up rooting for them. They make back alley deals that keep drug dealers and killers on the street all while skimming money into there pockets. Okay but Mackeys kids are autistic. /comfort They hijack the Armanian Money Train, so what, they are taking it from the bad guys so who cares.

They introduce Kavanaugh and while in reality he should be the good guy we come to hate him because he is threatening our anti-hero. I love it.

I too was dissapointed that they did nothing with the Dutch killing the cat. That was disturbing and then they did nothing with it.

I hope it ends next season. I don't like when shows get too many seasons because sometimes the writing starts to suffer and it ruins the show. Most notable case of this is the Sopranos, which has blown since season four started.

I was honestly hoping this would have been The Shield's last season, because I'm worried they will run out of stuff.

I'm honestly not surprised Kavanaugh did what he did (spoiler free for those who missed it). He's had a hard-on for Mackey since day one.

And I agree the reason no one looks at Vic as the villain is because, even though he breaks the law, his victims are never really innocents (well, except for Terry, but he was a snitch anyway). Who gives a shit if he beats the hell out of a drug-dealer. Honestly, the only thing that he's done to make me not like him was cheat on his wife.

Speaking of which, did they ever tell who the father of Danny's baby is? My memory is a little fuzzy as to the small details of last season, so I can't remember if they ever said who it is, or if Mackey is just implied.
