So I was thinking to myself a little while back "Will The Black Mages do any FFXI music since Nobuo has only done a few songs for FFXI?" Well, my question was sort of answered by Square Enix recently. The answer was "No." (Or at least that's what I'm going to think it is.)

They've created a new "band" called The Star Onions. Pretty much it's just arranged FFXI music. There are a few piano tracks, and I'd say the rest are a jazz type of music. I got the CD yesterday, and I'm liking it. There's music from FFXI and the two expansions on the CD.

If you want to hear some of their music, you can listen to a few clips on their official website (which is in Japanese), or if you have iTunes, the CD was recently released on there as well.

It's a great CD to listen to... while in an elevator x_X
It's even crappier than the so-called "metal" Black Mage album.

Sometimes you just need to listen to something calm every once in a while. Nothing wrong with it sounding like elevator music.

Also you have to realize Japanese Metal isn't American Metal.

I listen to very peaceful music as much as metal... well I listen to almost all kind of music but this kind of music is not in my taste, at all.

As for my taste in metal, I'm more like euro metal > us metal > japanese metal (japanese metal being 99,9% of the time a combo of 15years old metal from the rest of the world).

My problem with the Black Mages is that they don't know how to mix a metal album (the production is on par with Dracula Battle CDs except one, maybe two, songs that sounds more prog than trash). They sound like a 15 year old videotape of "play sabbath for dummies (now with Ozzy's pieces of brain!)".

Wow, I'm gonna have to get this soundtrack. o.O As for the Black Mages, I'm just glad I'm not "fan" of metal. I happen to absolutely love the Black Mages, because I don't even notice whatever it is about them that makes Farys hate it so much. It just sounds like badass remixes of songs I already loved to me.

And now I'm going a bit off-topic, but why is it that when people get really into something, they end up hating stuff like this? From what I read, Farys is all into metal, so doesn't like The Black Mages because their music is (apparently) amateur-ly (yeah I made up a word, so sue me) mixed or something. I see stuff like this all the time. I had a teacher once that was into dog breeding, and I showed her this pic of some adorable puppies. She thought they were ugly as hell, just because they weren't pure-bred or some crap like that. I've heard English teachers hate perfectly good stories just because of some grammar errors or something stupid like that. It just doesn't make any sense to me. :?

I totally understand this feeling, Kyrial. I'd probably feel the same about a jazz or a tango song.
When you're into something it's hard to put aside your brain for a moment and not think "I've already heard that countless of times" "Yeah so the judge is the muderer..." "Hasn't it already been done in 1974?", etc...

But your teacher is stupid : puppies are cuties ^^

I think there's a tolerance level beyond one can't go. Watch the flameboard : nobody's gonna read or give much credit to something that's been put down without proper use of grammar, comas or tabulations.
You don't listen to Mariah Carey because you feel there's too much marshmallow or uncalled high pitch notes in her song :P

Sometimes raw material is good and it makes you feel the piece of art... that's why some Live CDs are beautiful but I think arranged albums require the compositor to come up with a perfect blend of both his style and the style he's trying to emulate (sp?).

edit - Final note : don't rush in and buy this CD, listen to it before breaking your heart, ears and wallet ;)

yea, i like the Black Mages because its fun to hear some songs you love get redone. just kinda refreshes the song if u know what i mean. Theres plaenty of some remixes out there that are so-so, but its fun listening to then nontheless. ALot of those remixes i listen to are at www.ocremix.org , i have alot of those songs on my ipod.

As for this new group, is there anywhere i can download the whole cd? i dont wanna buy it offa itunes <_<
