...bothers me a great deal. Several people in it have stated:

"I am not a fan of MMOs"

These people have level 50+ characters in an MMO. You may not have been an MMO player before FFXI, but trust me when I tell you that this is your gateway drug. You are an MMO fan.

You play an MMO for countless hours per week.
You post on forums related to the game.
You are an MMO person.

This doesnt mean you will like every MMORPG that has been or will be, but it does mean that you greatly enjoy EQ-Style MMO games.

I dont know why, but it bothers me a lot when people say this. Its like my ex-girlfriend who played more Counter-Strike than I did, telling me every day that "Im not a gamer". She spent the bulk of her free time playing CS. She would always say "I dont like any other games than CS" (which was BS), and it drove me up the wall because she just couldnt admit that she was a gamer.... much in the way that a few of you cant seem to admit that you are MMO Fans.

The fact that you know enough about EQ2 and WoW to know that you DONT want to leave FFXI is proof enough that you are an MMO person. Otherwise, youd be saying "EQ2? WoW? What are those?"

I don't like the flameboard.

:D

Exactly.

"A man walks into a bar, the same bar he visits for a few hours every night, sits down, orders a drink, and says 'I dont really like bars or beer'."

I'm actually not an MMO fan >>

I've tried many MMO's after FFXI and still haven't gotten into them.

You can like ONE thing of a genre but not be a fan of it, this is possible you know. (I like Harry Potter, do I like fantasy novels? no. I liked the movie House on Haunted Hill, do I like scary movies? HELL NO.)

also if you've been playing FFXI for almost a year (like me) eventually level 50+ will creep up on you.

I think the reason Keits gets out of bed in the morning to is express his feelings on this flameboard. It's his lifesource so to speak. :D

I know what you mean, guy.

I love my weed, but Im not really into drugs.

Aw snap, fools! Im in the same boat.

I like guys, but im not really gay.

Keits needs to make multiple accounts so he can agree with himself more often.

Truth be told FFXI was the first (and some will say only) Massively Multiplayer Role Play Game for them. It was my first too. However The Keits brings up the valid point. If you know enough about EQ and WoW to know that you dont want to play them then you probably did some reaserch. And that signifys you care about MMO's in general. But while the Caffine addict may only like one specific type of coffe, "Black with 2 sugar's Please." and loathe all others, hes still a coffe lover.

Having the dedication to have a 51+ (if you havent done genkei you dont count) character makes you enough of a 'fan' *cough*addict*cough* to like mmo's. Frankly they play very similarly, just look a bit different with different companies backing them. Mostly the reason people wont pick up another one is loyalty (however misplaced) to the character that they nursed from newbhood into bad-ass-adulthood. Because this was the 'first' for so many, and it really is a good game, it sets a bar we dont WANT other games in the genre to measure up to or it somehow demeans our endless hours spent in our ffxi character's boots.

After having a 51+ character that toon has wormed its way into your very core, an extention of your body. You notice your mannerisms changed to reflect the game. You find yourself making auto-translate jokes with your friends even in real life. The PS2 crowd is only beginning to experience this attachment that those of us who played from day one know all too well. Its kinda scary really.

Really the reason people wont quit ffxi for wow or eq is cuz, they love their character here. If they had started on EQ there is a much higher chance they will drop ffxi for eq2, because that deep loyalty lies with everquest, not final fantasy. WoW is going to be a bit unique in that its roots lie in real-time-strategy, so the Blizzard fans are edgey and blizzard is working very very closely with its fans to make sure things come out right. The people in ffxi who wont even *think* about WoW are obviously the ones who disliked, or never played a blizzard game.

Myself as an example, ive played lots of blizzard games, from diablo to starcraft to warcraft. I am obviously interested in the blizzard universes and want to see more. So i will at least give WoW a shot. I never played EQ, so i have no intrest whatsoever in EQ2 even though it will be a good game.

Meh I'm rambling.

I needed to respond multiple times to make that joke work.

I agree with you, Keits. The multiple responsed tickled me in just the right spot.

I agree with the two above posters, and I also think Misty's post is very well presented.

Oh that Keits.... He should have his own prime-time show. I can see it now...

"Tonight on Keits, Keits makes a point and then screams at anyone who disagrees with him! Special guest appearances by Keits, Keits, Keits, and Tyrion's photoshops. And hey kids! Dont forget to sign up for Keits' fan club! Wit your membership card you get a certificate signed by Keits saying how much more right he is than you! Also on tonight's show, Keits punches a midget! Just remember to tune in and agree with everything he says, or you are stupid!... Wait... You're still stupid!"

I'd watch that

He made several good points. Just not as long of a post as mist or whatever. =P

It doesnt matter if my thoughts are logically correct or well-presented. People get upset when you tell them that they read/type poorly, or have extremely broken tracks of logic.
