The Truth About P.E.T.A.

Yeh, saw that on Showtime a few weeks back. Love thier show ^^;;

I didn't see that Penn and Teller, mainly because I no longer get Showtime, but I was aware of the crap that Peta pulls. I'm for animal rights, but these people don't deserve any respect and shouldn't be allowed to exist. This is actually similar to the March of Dimes campaign, where they receieve tons of money to stop birth defects, but they heavily advocate abortions to families.

PETA is one of those groups where I want to say "Their heart is in the right place," but mostly I just think they're a little too crazy for comfort.

I don't want to live in a world where I can't dress a chimpanzee in a butler's uniform and have him dance for my amusement.

< My "run in" with PETA

Several years ago i was working at Harvard Medical School in Boston taken care of the research animals. Someone from PETA broke into a rabbit room filled with maybe 100-150 rabbits, and thought they were "liberating" them by releaseing them all from there cages. We had no choice but to put down all those rabbits as there was no way to identify which animal was what.

I am a supported of animal testing for medical research. In fact it is REQUIRED by the FDA to approve any medication that is on the market today. Even cosmetics. Your make-up may say that it is free from animal testing, but its not true. That company may not have tested THERE product on animals, but all those ingredients at one time were tested on animals.

PETA goes too far for there views. These poeple are the US version of "extremist". I support NORML (National Organizaton for the Reform of Marijuana Laws), yet you dont see me going around and firebombing DEA, FBI, etc buildings.

I'm glad to see that many people are on the right page in there sanity

PETA, Greenpeace... No different than terrorist organizations.

Theres a difference between protesting and breaking the law to get your point across. These two organizations go the way of the extremist.

Even though those organizations are seen as going to far most of the time.

So do the bussineses that they go after.

Thier existance gives balance to the equation. If it wasn't for them, whales and turtles would probably be extinct. Atmospheric nuclear testing would still be done. And forests even though they still are declining would or may/have been gone forever, instead of being allowed to grow back.

I rarely do agree with things they do at the time, even my bussiness gets attention from activist groups. But they really are the only things looking after the welfare of the common person, because they government doesn't do shit to look after these issues.

You'd be amazed at how abusive bussinesses are to the environment, and to natural resources, and how much the government will let you get away with. All they are doing is making sure bussinesses don't go too far.

They could provide a check against any illegal activities without BOMBING those businesses. Whales and turtles would have been fine, at the very worst they'd become endangered, and the government actually does care about protecting endangered species. Also, it wasn't because of PETA or any animal rights group that we stopped testing nuclear weapons. That was due to an international treaty that prohibited above-ground testing, and I think there was later an addendum to that prohibiting all testing. If anything, that treaty was due to the potential side effects to humans, not animals. Besides, we already had computers that were capable of accurately modeling the nuclear detonations at that point, so we no longer needed to actually test them.

These people don't give a shit about the "common person," they only seem to care about any and all animals. They further prove that they don't care about the common person, by destroying medical research facilities that could save the lives of the common person. I'd love to see how a medical research company "goes too far," or better yet, McDonalds.

Vegitarian is an old Greek word meaning "Bad Hunter".
Gimme a steak, make it rare.

You can take anything too far. Peta has taken animal rights too far. Do they see the discovery channel? Do they realize that animals kill other animals? I'd like to know what members of PETA think about Carnivorous animals. Should they be allowed to eat? It scares me that this organization has 750,000 members.

The good part about it is they are all weak and scrawny because they don't have enough Iron, Calcium, and other such nutrients in their Diet.

On another note, I used to support NORML too. But they've been at it for over 30 years now and they can't get anything done. They are actually losing ground. It's a worthless organization that gets no attention from any major media outlet, aside from when someone makes a joke about potheads sitting on the couch eating cheetos and peanut butter (which, sadly, is accurate).

As a matter of fact, if you actually want information from NORML, you have to give them money and sign up to be a member. What do you get for your money? A cheesy gift such as a sticker, or a T-Shirt. But wait, if you give $250 dollars or more, they actually send you the "NORML Education Set"

I know there are more drug users in this country than not. What happened to Majority Rules? Why can't we just stop wasting money putting Non-Violent Criminals that have comited victimless crimes in prison?

On the flipside at least they don't put us down cos they can't tell us apart

This is true, as I said they do go in the extreme. Greenpeace was brought up into the fold by skaw so I commented.

Greenpeace is the reason why atmospheric testing is not done anymore. They were also "bombed" by the french government which they then were paid for.

The reasons governments act is because of things these activist groups point out. Yes they go to far, but so do the bussineses they go after.

Now lets look at those crazy fuckers in PETA. I never seem to find to agree in the dumb shit that they choose to stand by. But when I see the reactions of people, like when someone posted that dog beating video here. I see PETA has its place in things for the weak kneed population that we have out there. I for one wish they would go after those guys that beat seals to death with clubs than go after chickens raised exclusivly for slauthter. Seems pointless to me to cry about a chicken raised simply to die, but then again I aint a chicken, and I don't know if they have feelings, so what do I know?

Ah, I thought you were talking about peta, didn't think about Greenpeace.
