So my PC has been sucking lately, and I found that the fan on my video card died. Now I do plan on buying a new PC since I can no longer upgrade mine any more, but I need my stimulus check to do so....
So anyways I decided to try to ghetto rig it..... and here's the awesome story of my happy new PC! By the way.. I really know nothing of computers or tech stuff, this is why I'm so happy ^^ not to mention saving me 600$ for now.
I went to Radio Shack and bought a new 12v fan (one of the tiny ones about 2"x2")
and some instant bond glue for PCs. Took out my old Video card and removed the fan and the metal housing around it (ya know the slotted thingy to cool it) removed the cover and the fan blade itself and all the electrical components.
I then connected that back to the Vid card, the empty metal housing, and proceeded to splice the wiring to the new fan to the original connector (it had a thing on the end I could plug into the vid card itself to power the fan, the card itself also plugged into the AGP slot and directly to the PC's power supply). So I got it spliced, connected it and secured it with electrical tape.
- Before anything I did test it.. and WOW it worked! So then I glued it in place... and am the happy old owner of an old PC.. that works!!
