They arose early in the morning because they wanted to reach the end of the tunnel by the days ends.
“Follow me,” Zodiaque said.
“Zod no, we are trying to reach Cape Teriggan, not end up downstairs with all the monsters we were trying to avoid by coming this way,” Aaleel said smiling.
“Go back there and stand with Kero, maybe you can keep each other from getting lost,” she added trying not to laugh.
“Aal,” Kerowynn said from the middle of the group.
“I can start telling stories Kero,” Aaleel said.
“Ok, ok,” Kerowynn said, as Aaleel turned her eyes back to the path.
“Nik, you keep eyes on our rear,” Aaleel said, as Nikoloi nodded his head.
“Come on Noc,” she said, as her and Nocturnus started upon the path, which lead them down hill for a time, and even though Aaleel knew that the goblins would not attack her, there was something about all goblins that she just did not trust. They continued down the hill past the flies for a few hours until the tunnel began to flatten out, and they began to hear the sound of flowing water. There were dark forms under the water that they could not see, but Aaleel assumed them to be Makara. Aaleel held Syuji before her to light the path ahead, which began to climb uphill through the leeches, goblins and flies. They had been about a half an hour climbing the hill, when the tunnel flattened once more, and Aaleel darted ahead of the other. She cast some of her ninjitsu, and walked slowly forward. She heard soft steps upon the sand that would otherwise go unnoticed, and suddenly the shadows stirred to her right. There was a pause, and suddenly a large jaw of razor sharp teeth passed through one of her shadows, and she leapt away. She held up Syuji, and the shadows took the form or a great wyvern.
“Bune, I thought you would be here,” she said, as Nocturnus came up behind her with an arrow upon the string of his bow.
“Ah, a master of the far eastern arts, so the prophecy is true,” Bune said glaring at Aaleel who stood in safety behind her images.
“The lands of the Far East are vast, and though we went through great lengths to find you, the cowardly priests of Elindil did well in hiding you and that blade from the eyes of the Dark Lord,” Bune added.
“Now it is up to his servants in this place to stop you from fulfilling your task,” Bune said flapping his wings and sending a current of wind through the company, which wiped away all of Aaleel’s shadows.
“You will never reach Theallis,” Bune said, as the wyvern opened its mouth and releasing a stream or radiant energy upon Aaleel, who held Syuji and placed her hand against the flat of her blade, as a shield of white light sprang before her and protected her from the attack.
“May the power of the shadows bind you,” Nikoloi said, as his arm moved in a shadowy blur, and a black arrow hummed through the air and landed at the feet of the wyvern, entangling its legs in the dark threads.
“Take him down,” Nocturnus said, as the black mages along with the red mages began to cast magic upon the beast and soon large slabs of stone appeared all around the wyvern and slammed together upon it. Bune staggered away and fell to the ground no longer bound, and tried to stand back up. But before it could seek to recover, Nikoloi’s arm became a blur once again, as it passed back and forth between the quiver and the string, sending six arrows that pierced the skin of the wyvern and sent it back upon its belly. Nikoloi’s body began to shine with a white light as he prepared to let loose the stored power within him, but the wyvern lay upon the ground struggling for the slightest movement.
“It’s done Nik,” Nocturnus said, and Nikoloi took his hand off the string of his bow, and returned the arrow to his quiver, as the body of the wyvern shattered into strands of darkness, and the fallen priest lay upon the ground.
“I see now that there is strength within you all,” he said coughing up blood.
“You may yet complete this task,” he said before his body shattered into fragments of light as well.
Aaleel returned took the point once again, and continued through the tunnel until they began the feel a strong wind carrying rough sand, and soon they could see the end of the tunnel, which signaled the beginning of Cape Teriggan. Weary from their long travel through the tunnel, and their fight with the wyvern, they made camp near the end of the tunnel, and rested for the night.
