Theif help

Since this thread is goin' and active, I need some advice also please.

My thf is lvl 26 right now. I've was using a Fed Dagger/Knife (I haven't been on thf in a few months, and probably won't be leveling it for another month at least) and a Flame Sword. Should I keep using sword and dagger or switch to 2 daggers? And if so, when should I switch to having 2 daggers?

Thf is also a sub for my Warrior, so for quite a while it will only go to level 37. Eventually I would like to level my Thf to 75 though (we're talkin' wayyyyy down the road).

Level 26:
Main: Small sword
Offhand: Fed knife

Level 28:
Main: Mithran Scimitar
Offhand: Fed Knife

Level 33:
Dual: Fed knives

Level 34:
Dual: Fed Kukris

Hope that helps :D

Dagger in off hand kills that horrid delay of 2 swords.. plus Fed knives have great +atk stats

Thanks Sneaky, very appreciated. I'll make sure and have it all capped before I xp with her again.

Thank you also Ezikial. Yes it does.

Cool, I didn't know about that Boomerang, and that beer had nuts...

*adds Long Boomerang to his "Buy this" list*

Bloomington/Normal, Illinois makes beer have nuts.
God...Why do I live in this state?

Cuz Illinois Rocks, except like right now with all this damn snow!!!! I also live in Illinois. A little town called Leland. I'm from Batavia though (born and raised) and a very Proud Batavia Bulldog to boot!!!!!

Personally, I hate Illinois. The state just bores me to death, especially having been here for 16 years now. /yawn. ><

I like West. Spiritually, it does much more for me. And I like mountains, and the activities that come with. Regardless of what hardcore Midwesterners say, even the U.P. of Michigan is shite!

Just not a heartland kind of guy I guess.
However, being in the Midwest I am damn glad I am close to Chicago.
Having lived in Central Illinois for 5 years nearly killed me.

OMG, I hate Chicago. As I said I was born and raised in Batavia, which is close to Aurora goin' South and St. Charles/Elgin goin North.

I moved out here 13 years ago, and have never regretted moving to the country. I adore it^^.

Different strokes for different folks. At least one of us likes it. Hehehe.

Well here's my little thing, I would camp the Emperor of Leaping Lizzy anyday because Flee can beat out many on the Emperors, and frankly in my experiences, Leaping Lizzy spawns on peoples faces that just makes Flee useless

Just my 3 cents.... thats right 3

Generally dual weilding daggers (after 33) is best, unless you have a sword that gives you a good stat boost (mithran, greed, ect). We don't hit for much, so having fast attacks is generally better then having one slower weapon that will hit for maybe 3-10 more dmg >< Also, as you get higher lvl with thf your sword skill begins to get drastically worse, to the point that you cannot hit things with it because your sword skill caps on stuff you were exping on 5-10 levels before :(

As others said it is good to keep marksmenship, throwing and h2h leveled. It is also good to have monk as a full sub, so that if you are invited to a bone PT you can use it and be able to use mnks stronger WSs. Having your club skill capped is also not a bad idea- dual weilding two of those does very well against undead as well.

I realize that both of the people who were actually asking about theif are low level, so this might be a tad bit over the top but, you only need dex/agi/str gear when you are doing TASA, atk+ and acc+ at all other times is generally better. /equip macros are a theifs best friend, at least at higher levels. At 74... i have 5 macros dedicated simply to changing equipment (each has over 5 equip commands on it), and when i TASA only 3 of the items you can change without losing TP are the same as when i am just auto attacking. Like any melee class, but more so because our DoT, in order to maximize your effectiveness you must gain TP as fast as possible, so accuracy is key.

Also, after you hit 60 in situations where you are using DE keep acc gear on (though you should switch out attack+ gear for dex/str/agi) because the WS is not very accurate unless you have 160% or more TP, and while it can do very high damage, it can also do very low damage... it is a very inconsistant WS without acc+ stuff.

I need some THF advice from the higher levels than me. Right now I dual wield Bone +1 and Hornetsneedle and swap in and out ACC+ and DEX/AGI. I was going to get a Corsair but they shot up to 400k and I don't know if losing the +5 ACC is worth the +5 ATT (Bone is 18 DMG and Corsair is 21, does that make a big difference?) for 400k. I was instead just going to get a Sniper Ring (get the other in a couple of levels) and skip the Corsair all together. Any advice would be appreciated.

Of course when I decide to get the Corsair and I farm for it the price skyrockets. This happened when I got my boots and pin too. Bullshit.

I know how to SATA

lol its not you that needs to know SATA its your pt -_- and let me tell ya you get good at explaining it after a few hundred times. i am lvling thf too and and my sub is drk ^^ and yes if you dont know it pwnz your mamas socks! but only to 37 tho also as sneaky said h2h is good ot have jp pts love fusions SCs Red Lotus Blade > Combo = a good hurtin ^^;

Not a higher level, but I might be able to help ^^

I have the Corsair's knife. Huge difference in damage, worth the investment imo.

I am still trying to get my friggin larve to drop, so atm Corsair's and Bone +1. Now, here are my gear swaps:

Dex/AGI: http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/profile.xml?64054
Acc/ TP: http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/profile.xml?78456

My answer:

If you have ANY acc probs now, get the snipers first. Honestly, you will need them in the long term, so they are the better investment overall. ^^

Get the snipers first, they're overall better and always useful. Daggers come and go, sniper last forever.

Ok I have a question to anyone that can answer it. You may be able to help as a none thief either. Well in the cape and at valley of sorrows my dancing edges were averaging probably around 650, not much higher than my viper bites that could consistantly hit 600. Although I've got as high as 950 at level 60 and would honestly say is an average of around 650, it's really jumpy. You know, some 550s,600s,650s,800s...

During plain old SATA I'm dex+25,agi+27(I definitely am happy with my damage in this area at 300-500)
Tp gaining-dex+19,acc+25(No problems here and I'm not the god of acc either, I gain tp ahead of other melees of equal level always except sam and rng)

SATA Dancing edge-I have used lust dagger much in my 2ndary since getting DE, I figure the +acc is always great, and the +5 attk will help on each hit. So I'm the same as what I am on tp.

So this is what my equips were when I faced a problem.

Darksteel kukri +1, bone knife+1, lightning bow, <any arrows>

Emperor hairpin, spike necklance, spike earring(+5attk), spike earring

flora(3str,2dex,3agi), Hume RSE gloves(3str,3dex,-1 agi/vit), sniper,sniper

rep army mantle(+2dex,+2vit), lifebelt, thief Af pants, LL boots.

My equips are a little different for normal SATa aimed at more dex/agi(drones,RK+1 belt, dex+3 rings, etc).

Anyway, I'd like to think my equips are overall just fine, of course I could get a scorpion overness. But I JUST got the snipers, so I'm broke, but you can bet I'll eventually save for one.

Now I want to know why I was doing SATA Dancing edge for 400-550 on torama in onzozo. Is my gear crap? Is my choice of gear during SATA DE crap? Or was level 60 just too low for toramas? I know there is some room for improvement, and I'm working on such things as I always have. But any constructive imput would be welcomed.

Just an aside, I was reminded of this because of the gear swapping talk...

WHY OH WHY DO YOU LOSE YOUR LOCK ON TARGET WHEN YOU CHANGE GEAR? *cry*

not with earrings and rings.. but, yes... I hate this =/

yeah the boomerang is 33, used it till 55 (hugs Lightning bow)

Jagster: Torama have super high evade and we do lower dmg on them in general when compairing to things like Raptors and Peritons or however thtey are spelled... Your gear sounds fine, certainly not crappy, but like you said there are a few very expensive items you could get to improve your acc. (specs or peacock are another one to think about, though those are even worse then the harness for gil :( ).

Onions: Cosairs is very worth it, but get snipers first. 21D makes a huge difference on WS dmg.
