I'm a lv 52 thf and damn close to lv 53. I'm currently using a Corsair's Knife main hand and a Bone Knife +1 off-hand. There are a few interesting daggers coming up, but I'm not sure they are the best.

Triple dagger: seems like this is just a red herring of a weapon. +1% triple attack doesn't seem to make up for it's low base damage, even though it has a low delay. I think I'd do more damage with a slower, more potent dagger even without the extra attacks in 1 out of 100 attacks.

Kidney dagger: +5% critical hit rate. This I'm not sure about, but if my thinking is correct (crit. hit doing about double damage on average) then it's equivalent to a 5% increase in damage over time. Again, this isn't anything a dagger with higher base damage couldn't acomplish too...but this dagger has a fairly low delay too.

I was hoping a few THF's who have been through these levels can make some comments, maybe even suggest something I haven't even considered. I'm not wealthy in game, but I can swing a few million gil for equipment.

IMO if u have one hornetneedle offhand to counteract the high delay on the corsairs knife which you can stick with til 58 or 59 when a couple choices come into play. At 58 you can get the chicken knife which is not too bad of damage or delay and is pretty fun to pull with when it activates or you can wait til 59 and get the darksteel kukri +1 which is good damage and not terrible delay. Once you get to 62 Cermet Kukri +1 is a good choice for even lower damage and that is pretty much it til you get to level 68 and start to look at harpes.

If you dont have a hornetneedle or dont wanna camp one a bone knife +1 or a second corsairs (not best tho imo) would be decent choices

So ideal i would do this

My reccomendation then is
Til 58 Corsair/hornetneedle
Til 62 (Due to raptor and torama's speed) Chicken knife/hornetneedle
Til 68 Cermet Kukri +1/Hornetneedle (maybe garuda's dagger at 65+ for offhand)
68+ whatever you can afford or get there are so many choices that are good for so many situations i couldnt do justice trying to explain them all.

Hope this helps

but seriously if you have time to camp one hornetneedle is awesome.

Not to be a PC+1 but um... Yeah QFT.

My only alteration would be to pick up a Darksteel Kukri +1 at 59 instead of the Chicken Knife personally.

i said that but i didnt like pulling the raptors and torama w/o flee so i altered what i did (which was the darksteel +1) and said to use the chicken knife. I did state darksteel knife +1 as an alternative.

Many a times i have died due to those damn 24/7 run 1.5x speed mobs and people not voking the mob off me. Even with capped eva and utsusemi i still took damage on alot of pulls on torama and raptors. If i could do it over i would have probably have used a chicken knife during those levels.

I don't know much about dagger(It's pretty much the only weapon I don't have capped), but when I was skilling up with a Triple Dagger, it was proc'ing pretty damn often. Thing is, I hear you need to have Double Attack for it to even work, though that may be BS.

It's been said, but I'd go:

Corsair's/HN to 57
Chicken/HN to 59
Darksteel+1/HN to 62
Cermet+1/HN to 65
Cermet+1/Garuda's to 68 or 71 depending on your take on the Harpes.

What does Double Attack have to do with a Triple dagger?

Anyways, all those combos are pretty much what I did, swapping Harpe in at 68 and Blau @ 72. (mainhands), and Sirocco/Mkris for offhands @69/50.(if you have the money for kris).

He was sayin that he was thinkin maybe you had to have Double Attack, before you could reach triple attack, but I'm thinking since you don't have to have /WAR for your THF's triple attack to come into play, that's prolly not true Cythe

Triple dagger, no. Kidney dagger, yes. Kidney is a good offhand, and the low-delay offhand idea is largely pen-and-paper. It doesn't correlate to functional, usable higher tp gain. Crit setup on thief is nearly your only option to fit in in a DoT pt, and you have a high-count weaponskill.

Heartsnatcher+relic body and feet+kidney dagger does better against VT's than a decent strength setup does. Not that that's where I'd take my thief, but hey. Crits are still a big part of thievery.

I've never tried to boost triple attack as high as it'll go though. Probably too scared of the measly 1% increases taking up entire equipment slots.

Pere beat me to it. XD
I'd say Kidney Dagger is sorely underrated as an offhand weapon (it seems like it'd help DE's criticals, or any multihit WS' a TON)...but that's provided that the +critical, or any other stats the offhand weapon may give, effect the mainhand too...which lately I've been hearing alot of debate over....

Triple Dagger seems more like an offhand for any non-THF job (though doesn't seem all too great all the same), but again that's only provided offhand effects work for mainhand too.

+crit only affects the weapon it's on, this has been parsed quite conclusively.

Back when everyone was poor, and so was I, I just dual wielded 2 Bone+1. Heck, I didn't even get HN til level 62 or so.

If you don't have the time to get the Bee Larvae for the Hornetneedle like myself, Kidney Dagger is a neat-o off hand. I'm only 57 at the moment, but next level I was thinking of trying out Chicken Knife/Kidney to see how fast I can TP. As for the Triple dagger, I don't think the Triple attack would proc enough to make up for the low damage.

So in conclusion, I'm just reposting what everyone else said.

I had a hornetneedle at level 44 but then again I am one of the best players on the server, go figure huh?
