i am at 39 with my thief.. i love playing it since soloing is no problem and parties dont come often atm.. one issue i am having is when i want to engage a mob from behind when im over 100 tp for a WS. i try to open with SA > viper bite but i find my WS not getting off before that initial attack hit.
how can i easily open with a SA > VB without losing the TP to my initial engaging attack? even when i have my npc tank i have trouble with this ><
any macro assistance or other help is appreciated.

thanks in advance.

/attack
/ja "Sneak Attacl" <me>
/ws "Viper Bite" <t>

That might work.

Practice.

Once you do it once, you'll see it and you'll never fuck it up again.

With Daggers, you got like a 1-2 second delay to do anything after you pull out your weapons, it's pretty hard to screw up. Are you seeing a Critical hit for ~150-200 before WS? or are you seeing a few stray hits for normal damage and your WS doing like ~300-400? There are rare occasions when the attacking animations will actually render first. but its rare.

/attack
/ja "Sneak Attacl" <me>
/ws "Viper Bite" <t>

That might work.

That will not work, you'll need delays if you wanted everything on one macro.

I'd personally recommend highly against "All inclusive" macros, as they run a decent chance at fucking up, keep your SA, TA and Weaponskills all on separate macros; get in the habbit early, and your endgame will benefit from it.

Just have a separate macros for SA and VB. use SA before you engage, hit the attack button and spam your VB macro 'til it goes off.

Practice.

Are you seeing a Critical hit for ~150-200 before WS?.

THIS .

thanks for the input all, indeed i need to seperate my sata macros first thing.
ill try that ws spam thing and practice it.

Yep, everyone has basically told you the best way to do it. I have a SA, TA, and SATA macro buttons. Then I have a macro which uses the weaponskill. Use SA then hit the WS macro asap. If it delays, you usually still have time to use the WS again before an attack round goes off.

At your level though, I also had the above and a SATAws macro as well.

/ja "Sneak Attack" <me>
/wait .1
/ja "Trick Attack" <me>
/wait .1
/ws "Viper Bite" <t>

That should work, but if you're taking it to 75 you probably wish to stray away from a macro like that.

/ja "Sneak Attack" <me>
/wait .1
/ja "Trick Attack" <me>
/wait .1
/ws "Viper Bite" <t>

so is this when you are up close behind the mob and hit attack and then this macro? just curious to how YOU do it.

If I had been already engaged I'd hit that macro as I was behind it. Of course, I recommend having separate SA, TA macros (and a SATA one if you like) as well as a macro for a particular WS(s).

Anyway, just play around with it. You'll get the hang of THF and will see how good it really is!

Pretty much what everyone else said, especially with the /wait 1s.
I usually whenever I SAws from behind press the attack (engage) button and then within a delay of no more then 1-2 seconds hit the macro with the WS included.

That way as soon as you're in engage mode, you us an ability and weapon skill. This can also be used for anything, for example.. if you're doing an endgame event such as ouryu in the enm or whatever it's in (I forget) you can do the same thing, except with the Trick Attack macro.

Going along with what Phraust said, it's key to just practice, there's no way well for the most part that you won't get it on your first few tries, but you'll get the hang of it.

/attack
/wait 1
/ws Viperbite <t>

Not sure why no one said this: Put Trick Attack before Sneak Attack in macro too. I am not sure why, but I had troubles with both activating when I had SA before TA even with a 1 second delay; however, by reversing order, it cleared up any problems.

Also, /wait is a mostly why macros fail. For anything outside of gear swaps which do activate instantly, you should always put a /wait in there for any spell, job ability, pet command, etc. because each has it's own delay to activate. In reality, it might go off instantly, but it takes a small amount of time to finish the animation.

I prefer TA before SA for the reason Lavi mentioned as well. It's always been smoother and more reliable that way.

Once I taught myself to have separate macros for Trick and Sneak, I only use a combo macro with a /p for a SC. But I think I also have it Trick then Sneak (though I didn't do it consciously)
