Well I started theif up, again, well its level 11. I'm wearing all royal footmans gear, except for the pants, they re brais. For weapons i have a brass dagger(9) and a corse boomerang. I also have a leather gorget, leather belt, and rabbit mantle. I'm currently subbing warrior. So my question to you is should i solo theif up to 15(don't really want to) or head to the dunes now? If you say head to the dunes do you have any tips for me, and would you invite me?

I suggest putting flag up and solo worms while waiting for group.

If I can solo BRD as a Taru to 12.6 you can get THF up nicely, these are fun levels, enjoy them, and don't forget your bow, it is the THF's greatsword.

Thief, and the reason you would never want to Power level it:

There is an important Dynamic that is learned whil leveling thief, especially in the early levels.

Kill more often for less reward.

If it takes you two minutes to kill monster X for 100 exp and you end with minimal HP, and you can make 25 EXP killing monster Y at the rate of 3 monsters every minute and come out with more HP to continue fighting... Fight the lower mobs.

I learned this rule the hard way. I was level 8 as a thief a record 16 times. Because I was trying to take on DC+ and EM mobs when I was first starting out, as a newb, with a dagger... I later realized that if I purged West Ronfaure of all it's rabbits, I could level once every hour up to level 7, and get to level 12 at about 2hr/level, restign very little, and amassing lots of items from creatures to fund my war machine. Later you poke Beastmen in Palborough Mines, Ghelbesha Outpost, or Giddeus, till you hit 15.

then you will be ready. And in the process learned 2 relatively important skills: EXP/hr > EXP/Kill & How to avoid aggro.

Wow Phraust I believe you have something. I remember back in the day when Thief was just starting out for me. At about level 7 you hit that wall. I too realized then it was so much faster to get about 12-25 exp a kill and kill about 5x faster than getting about 75 exp. Maybe that is why not eveyone learns early on that fast and easy is better than slow and hard? Thief is the only non-mage job I can think of that really has that disadvantage... Maybe Ninja...felt like taking Thief through all over again until 10...

Fae

Also, you will kill much faster if you switch to sword for now. Dagger is pretty useless until you hit level 33... in which case you WILL need dagger skill leveled.

You can party as normal but I'd make a few precautions for it.

Capped and updated sword and updated and capped archery or marksmenship. I've had parties that were successful even with pre 15 thiefs because of archery being capped. Now you'll only be a 2nd rate ranger but that's still not a bad thing exactly.

I found thf really easy to solo using H2H O.O Almost like a monk

The good thing about dunes and Thieves these days are all the PL out there that just suck up every avaible melee. :P

Sub monk with knuckles or get yourself a scimitar at 13. :P

Oh yeah, and battle gloves/balance rings at 14. <---- Nice acc boost.

Well i took ur advice, subbing mnk(only lvl 7 though :( ) , i have lizard cesti, well they seem good a bit of a delay, but eh, the accuracy +3 is nice. Well ive noticed i can do some mad damage if i stack some boosts run up and combo. So thank you all.

Hmm...i was thinking of relevelling my thf (currently 15)..... does anyone have any say on a /rng sub?

Edit: Thieves are one job that I have never looked too much into other than the SATA rule and viper bite and SA procedures...

from what i hear rng sub is a very effective sub if u got gil to use cuz ur RA does more damage than ur melee.
