I have read the stickied thread and the other thread someone created about coming back, but I have different questions on the game and didn't wanna monopolize his thread with my stuff.

So basically I've been away for about 2 years now and I'm wondering has much changed? I'm not exactly sure I would want to come back. I have kinda kept up to date with the expansions and what's going on and the changes, but what I want to know is, is it the same experience. This question is kind of directed at the veterans who have been around since 04 which is when I started.

My uncertainty with coming back is that not everything will be how I remember it. It'd be like starting an entirely new MMORPG in the sense that all of my old friends won't be playing, leveling is different with the introduction of level syncing and new areas are there to explore. I guess most of all is that I'd wanna feel the nostalgia from 5 years ago when I first started playing, before everything got so complicated, albeit much easier to level and stuff, but still so much different.

So what would you say? Has the game changed all that much with the new expansions and what not, or is it the same old game but with different perks. My friends are trying to get me to play WoW, but I wanna hear peoples opinions on the games current stature to basically sway me into returning or saying f/ck it and go play WoW.

Any opinion is appreciated.

Much love,
Solan

there's TONS more stuff to do now at 75. I mean back in the day there were basically 3 endgame activities... sky, dynamis, and land kings. Sea got added but few people got access early on. Now there's Salvage, Nyzul, Assault, and Einherjar, as well as more recently added HNMs.. much wider playing field.

There's lots more to do, but I'd definitely say the game has changed a great deal since you started. From the simple things like the way people talk/shouting for teleports to the way people behave/act in parties, I have found that it's all very different from back then. The teleport bit? Well, it's probably just a personal experience, but 99% of the time I can't get one for shit whilst offering 5k and just outpost close to my destination.

There's also the economy which is slightly different, but if you're starting afresh then that's not really an issue.

If you enjoyed it when you played, you'll probably still enjoy it. Just try not to be too shocked by people at level 75 who've never been past qufim island in the party spectrum and have their main weapon skill at about 100 =/ It sounds like a joke, but sadly it's not ; ;

These guys pretty much covered it. End game changes, Campaign, FoV, MMM, yadda yadda yadda. Same game, you still go from the Dunes to Qufim to the Jungles etc. So in that aspect, nothing has really changed, just been expanded. I'm not going to try to "sway" you into coming back, that's 100% your decision, but I can honestly say that I rarely find myself bored anymore with all of the things there are out there to do, depending on what I feel like that day.

Well I just recently dove in... things you will notice is regular cities not bustling like they used to be... Jeuno is ok... whitegate is the most active area.

You will aslo have catching up to do and lots of run around...depending where you are at when you come back. I came back to a reactivated account and just call SE if you want to do that.

It took me a few days to figure out the controls and menu all over..also getting used to parties again. I synced for a party in the crawlers nest with old and new friends as they helped me get back into the groove ..that there was the biggest positive experience and helped me getting back into the swing of thinigs.

There are still time sinks ...maybe better from the past but still bad time sinks.

I recommend if you are on a lvl 55+ to get your Mercenary quest done and access to whitegate done.

Second is unlocking the Maw's ...

Third getting those teleport points in the new areas to get parties.

Also the old leveling path we did ...lvl 11+ valkrum then to the spot near Jeuno..then to the island place, citadel, and nest seem to be the same...its at 55 I think that things change im told you go to white gate from that point.

No more ..(thank god by the way) antican nest , the beach , and god forbid Boyada tree...ugh...

Like everyone else has mentioned, the game has a huge variety of events that are endgame friendly. With the last expansion it opens the doors to some sweet spots for partying (whether it be traditional or blm solo/duo) and post 61 you can spend your time punching a fort in campaign for some easy kick-back exp.

ZNMs also offer some pretty sweet gear and you don't really need a large group until you get to the higher tiers.

It's the age of the Level sync. The downside to that (and campaign) is you don't skill up unless you are synced to your level. It won't be an issue a few skillup parties can't repair, though.

The game is pretty endgame intensive (which I'm sure you already know) and things such as leveling are easier to accomplish. So with all of this combined, it can seem like a pretty different game with the newish playerbase it has now. I have to say starting over from scratch isn't half as bad as I was making it out to be.:nyam:

Find me a legit example of that, because so far nobody's shown evidence that ANYONE synced for that long, and it's rather aggravating that there's always someone that hates on Sync by using more or less that exact statement

The closest I personally know of is my pld 56 never being in a non east ronfuare S party.
It's not because I refuse to go anywhere other than there . it's because noone thinks to go to the myriad other places i looked up in WOTG to camp for various lv ranges. Saruta and eldieme atm have viable lv 55~59 camps AND the Astral candysense is gone giving no advantage to TAU areas atm and people still refuse to go there.

That's still a far cry from sync 20-75.

Dunno if they still do the same old thing or what kind of players they were, but Burago and Zerochi would only party at the pugil tunnel in Qufim all the way to 75. They did it on at least two jobs a piece that I know of, but maybe more. I believe they are Japanese, couldn't tell much from when I partied with them besides that they don't speak much English.

Judging from their ffxiah plethora of recently sold water crystals and purchased mithkabobs, I'm going to guess they're still at it.

I see so is the level syncing option good? Or is it just something to get more people to 75 faster without going through dangerous ass areas and shit.

I quit playing like 4 months before WoTG came out, I have a 75 DRG with equipment that would of been considered good in like 05 (Wyvern Helm, AJ, Barone Cosc) and a 62WAR that is decently equipped.

My only problem now is that my playing time has been drastically shortened, back when I started playing I'd basically play all day now I have work and school shit to do so I'd only be able to play a few hours a night. Would this affect me for doing the myriad of activities now present to that level range?

Nah, you'd be fine.

Level sync is a double-edged sword. it CAN be used to get 75 without ever going past Qufim, technically (though nobody in their right mind does it...), but generally what it does is it makes it possible to make parties at just about any level range, and removes the age-old "level gap" issue where one person levels and destroys the exp for the whole party.

Feedback from field testing solo xp:

OK I started leveling a DNC to use as a subjob while farming (bye bye thief). And I havn't had good luck with parties yet. I had one and it flopped ..the xp seemed pretty good for the few pulls we did. But sloww going.

Now I just took my level 11 dnc out to Lethaine... found some dc and easy to kill..ran in circles killing everything in my way... I leveled 2 times in less than 1 hour and 45 min.

not bad for solo...also not on a job that is dps so not bad at all... i couldnt imagine what it must be like for new players leveling Ninja/DNC ...must be insanely fast with little to no downtime.

So if you are used to fast paced killing and want to level so far you can do it..just dont bite off more than you can chew... I only died once and that was because I was afk though =)

Hope this feedback on my solo leveling experience gives you an idea what its like now. Compared to Zilart launch time ...we used to kill sit kill sit kill sit..fall asleep die...run back kill sit kill sit.. =)

from what I've heard and assume the game is now strictly about endgame. back in the day having one 75 and downing Kirin was a big deal. don't be suprised by a lot of people having 4+ 75s and playing as though they've never played the game before lol.

READ: this is a common trait of old mmos: after a while the majority of really skilled and motivated players will dissipate to either other games or real life. always the old typically elitist vets stick around, rightfully so elitist of course IMO.

thus it becomes this society of juxtaposed vets and newly wannabe pathetically skilled players who picked the game up at a later date and are just plain bad.

best of luck.

The last post pretty much summed up what I was thinking of the game to be now. And yeah kill sit kill sit kill sit was a huge waste of time. I found that even once BLU became a job option soloing was still pretty good I was getting chain 4-5 off of EM-T in dunes with only resting when chain was broke or when I desperately needed to.

But thank you everyone for clearing some things up for me on what I was wondering. One last thing is my account hasn't been active since the June before last. Will my chars and stuff still be on it if I reactivate my account?

You can get 20k/hr in qufim island burns so I don't know why you wouldn't want to stay there. Just find some random level 19 rape shit until they hit 24, kick them and find another. I know a lot of people who have done that.

Yeah but that just means staying at skill level 100 and not moving. Personally my best memories of this game were going to random parties in places I didn't even know you could party in. Basically level 45-47 on my DRG in one party at Yhatoa? and 60 something to 60 something in the Tunnel were probably the best parties I'd ever had (thanks Beka, Darenn and Ducktape!).

Anyways I'm kinda intoxicated since it's my birthday so I'll end it here before I make even more of an ass out of myself.

More than likely yes...if not Call SE... they verify some info of your old content ID....then you have to do a few other steps and you will have your account reactivated.

My account was 5 years old and I got it back.
