thinking of joining FFXI

To add to ant's post:

Wondering: "Hmmm did my linkshell claim such and such monster today."
"I hope i can get home before Fafnir pops, I really want that N.abjuration."

And w/e you do, don't play DRG. No matter how cool they we're in the previous games, they suck dick in 11.

Don't do it if you value free time xD

If you respect your life and general wellbeing, I strongly advise you to stay far away.

Run in the opposite direction as fast as you can. Don't look back and keep going. You will be doing yourself an enormous favor that you probably can't comprehend right now.

Invest your time in something more productive.

One of us....One of us....One of us....One of us....One of us...

Hearing shit like that before they even start playing the game is why people have this fucking attitude.

Fuck yourself and die, kthx

Honestly, I've never understood this difficulty in distancing yourself from the game. Sure, I enjoy it, I've got way too much time invested in it... but I never get that "NEED TO PLAY" as bad as it seems a lot of folks do, and I never drop plans to go play more. Usually, it's the reverse, where I cancel some in-game event in favor of doing something more productive.

This game had a bad way about... sharpening my skill in procrastinating.

I am in pretty much the same boat as the OP. A friend convinced me to start playing last week.

I have always been a MMO fan, starting with everquest and have played a few others as well.

Wow was too dummified and linear for me so I got bored with it pretty quickly. After playing FFXI as a Taru BLM for the last few days there are a few things that stand out that bug the heck out of me.

1. The interface is really counterintuitive to me. I just can't seem to get used to it. I keep on finding myself doing other commands that all other MMO's have such as /invite (playername) which don't seem to work hehe. Or I try performing an action that I am unable to perform because I left some other window open so I first have to go cancel out of that window before doing what I want to do. And the interface doesn't appear customizable.

2. As a Taru BLM I have been partnering with my friend (a puppetmaster) but it doesn't matter how much health the mob has remaining or if I cast a debuff, it seems like every spell I cast draws aggro without fail so basically I am reduced to just sitting back and letting him solo the mobs since I can't contribute without drawing aggro and getting subsequently killed.

Those are just a couple things that have bugged me. Please tell me that it eventually gets better !
