..coming back to dabble around a bit. How obsolete is all my gear for 75 DRG, WAR and NIN? I wouldn't be able to plug in the second (or sometimes only) job hours like I used to. I don't want to be gimp as fuck like an xp whore.

The down side is that pretty much everything short of your pokey stick is somewhat obsolete, and even that is gonna take some upgrading. A well-geared 75 from ye olden days is still in decent shape coming back though, it's just that there are substantially better options now.

The up side is that getting your AF3+1/+2 is pretty straightforward and easy, especially if you've got some friends willing to help you out. Oh, and SE is apparently adding the upgrade options to AF2 and things like Homam soon, so that might increase your options.

That's just wonderful. Genkaku and Darthyoda have been telling me to hop back on. Other than that, I have no clue who else still plays and is in Quetz anymore. Bootz still around?

Beats the hell outta me, lol. I wound up staying on Sylph when I came back to the game a while back, and got drafted into an officer position in my shell when the old officer corps basically burned out and quit en-masse.

It's ironic because I really don't play all that much, between my work and school schedule, and of late I can hardly ever even make the event times.

Oh, btw. Your Relic weapon? Next to shit compared to Emp Weapons.

Not really true in Polearm. Camlann's Torment is pretty much the worst of the Empyrean WSs, so Gungnir is probably pretty much on par with Rhongomiant lol.

Though apparently people have been saying that Ryunohige is actually good these days, and I dunno why. Probably because Drakesbane is the best DRG WS still, and Ryu has an Aftermath for it.

I got bored pretty quickly of abyssea. Everything's just too easy there and not that much fun. I quit before the 95 update, but I think the game was heading towards the direction of Voidwatch which I never really got around to trying. It might be fun, but everything else is pretty much duoing/soloing stuff in abyssea. Everyone xp whores now and it's hard to really be all that gimpy since getting gear in abyssea isn't hard, just time consuming.

Hopefully I already talked you out of this when we talked earlier though, lol.

There are varying levels of gimp, lol, and a lot of people manage it quite handily. If you play as a full-time job, yeah, Abyssea is easy enough that you'll blitz through it pretty quickly. If you're more on the level of playing a couple nights a week tops, then it'll still take you quite a while, since you're gonna have multiple sets of AF3+2 to work up.

As for Voidwatch, it's considerably more challenging than Abyssea, but still conducive to casual play, since loot pools are all individual, so you can actually run shout groups without having to worry too much about loot allocation.

Of course, all the old-school elitists are royally pissed off that they can't control who gets what, and there are some genuine complaints about the randomness and inability to add the drops you might already have to the loot pool, but Voidwatch is kinda fun.

I don't find VW fun at all. It's a forced 30 minute fight to even get a chance at drops and every VW I've done, I've only gotten Rocks. Never any gear. Just fucking rocks. It's too fucking random. And a lot of the time, a Mage will get the epic Melee piece and a Melee will get the epic mage piece.

/shrug, it might be that I just enjoy actually going PLD to something for the purpose of actually tanking, rather than just randomly throwing bodies at it Abyssea-style lol.

No, I agree it's a nice change of pace but I still hate the proc shit you need to do to get any decent drops. And I am very pissy that I haven't gotten a single good drop in the 3 months I've been doing it.

Yeah, the loot system would be improved immeasurably by the simple addition of an "Add to Pool" option.

I should come back from level 1.
