I just got back from PAX and wanted to share some links and pics in case anyone was interested.
According to Gabe, there were over 19,000 attendees this year. I don't doubt it for a second considering how long all the lines were.
:shok:
I'm just glad all the exposure to the sun didn't kill me. (blech)
I'm too tired to go into much detail right now seeing how I just got home from an 8 hour drive... which was a bit longer than necessary due to a completely intended detour and nothing to do with being lost.
Honestly.
I passed that freeway exit on purpose because I wanted to explore more of the beautiful towns in Washington.
>.>
Anyway, these are some things I really enjoyed at the expo:
The BALL:
Did I mention that the place was packed and had really long lines? Well, one of the first events had a huge crowd waiting to get in. Huge crowd + nothing to do = danger. Not sure how this game got started but not too far into it, people began chanting, "WE LOVE BALL! BALL IS KING! ALL HAIL BALL! ALL HAIL BALL!!!" It was lots of fun before the ball got stuck on a ledge and then the enforcers kicked everyone outside due to the "fire hazard." (blocked exits due to the large crowd, I suppose)
Anyway, here's a vid from youtube. I'm completely heartbroken that you can't really hear the "All hail ball" chant in any of them. If you want to see other versions, just search "PAX Ball." I chose this one because you can hear a girl scream, "THE BALL IS MY GOD!!!"

The ball was such a hit that it makes a debut in next Wednesday's comic. Check the bottom left corner of the third panel.
:nyam:
Making Wednesday's Comic:
Gabe and Tycho let us watch them make Wednesday's comic strip. They even took suggestions from the audience. I'm not sure how much of it will be left in, but there's a bloody heart being held aloft by an IGN guy because someone mentioned "the phenomenom." Apparently, some fans believe there's a hand that Gabe often draws positioned palm upward... as if it should be holding a heart?
>.>
Yeah, I didn't get it, but Gabe seemed to know what it was all about. It was awesome seeing him draw that in just because someone asked.
Gabe was drawing while Tycho answered questions from the audience. I guess Gabe got a little bored after he finished the strip. He added a "fun layer" in which he drew all over Tycho in the first panel.
Here's some low quality vids of it.

Also, during one of the panels, they actually called Jack Thompson's cell phone... and let us leave a message.
h34r:
The next day they did a follow up and let us hear the reply.
I can't describe to you how fun it is to be in a room with over 4,000 people and be part of a prank call. We all had to be really quiet as he dialed and we could hear in the microphone as it went to voicemail.
Our message was a huge screaming mass of "boo!" and one guy screaming, "I HOPE YOU DIE IN A FIRE!!!"
I hope there's no lawsuits.
Jack's reply on Gabe's voicemail was short:
"Congratulations, I now have your name and number." -click-
yikes. Gabe says we all have to pitch in and bail him out if he's arrested.
^^;
Last thing I want to share is this picture from the Penny Arcade site. There's 3 pictures of PAX posted so far. I was just looking them over and realized I was in it!
XD
I circled myself in red and a friend in blue. I realize no one else really cares but I thought it was cool. My friend, Bill, is standing too close to me so he's in the same circle as I am. I'm the one with black hair and a green shirt. (We were looking over the balcony trying to find the rest of our group.)
Ok, I'm going to bed now.
-_-
G'nite!
Edit*
:shok:
OMG!
Looking at the second PAX photo, I found the friends we were looking for on the balcony!
(This is more fun than "Where's Waldo")
Again... I'm sure you don't care, but here's a pic.
The one in all black is my friend, Bobdobbs, from this site. The blurry one in the front is my roommate and the one in the middle is her brother.
