This pissed me off to no end...

He should be fired not because of the situation though, but because of his ego, there is no way he is an asset to any force with an approach like that.

Pretty much. Getting caught saying he can ruin someones life in an attempt to control the situation should line up an automatic ban from civic/government jobs.

Well, what he said was very true though. It doesn't take much to get arrested, and depending on your behavior the cop can easily increase the seriousness of the charge. Most cops usually do this if you're being an asshole or uncooperative. Just getting arrested and put in jail puts a bad little mark on your record unless you're able to beat the charges easily. Resisting without violence can be tacked onto your list of charges if you run your mouth and piss the officer off. It's been a while since I've been able to see booking sheets since I don't work with the booking area anymore, but I'm sure there are other charges that can be added. Which by the way increase your bond even further.

The way this officer said what he said wasn't exactly tactful, but it was true. A lot of police use this tactic in hopes it will make the person they may have to arrest think a little bit and 'stfu'. They do have the power to ruin your life if you don't cooperate with them. This cop though, just let that power get to his head. Happens more often than you think. This case really isn't anything special.

Should have got his info them immidiately let him go, then mail the ticket to the address given.

Seriously though, how hard would it have been to tell him that you would escort him to his mother-in-laws room if you didn't believe him? Still disrespectful but at least the guy would have been able to see his mother-in-law before she died.

Pretty sure the wife was with him too, I would be ready to kill someone keeping me from my mom in the hospital like that. =(

when i was 10 about years old my parents out of the blue came into my room in a panic and started grabbing some cloths for me to get dressed. i didnt know what was happening but i went along with it. we got in the car and my dad punched the gas and we sped to a house i didn't know. they run into the house and come out with my brother no more then 5 minutes later. it was dark in the car so i didn't know what was going on. my parents were speaking rappidly and being the goofy 10 year old i was i didnt pay attention. next thing i know we're at the hospital and they are rushing by brother inside.

up to this point i am still in the dark not knowing whats happening. my mother took me into the waiting lobby and asked the nurse there to keep an eye on me. after a few hours i find out what happened. my brother was beaten to within an inch of his life by a local gang. a kid he was with that managed to get to his mother to help him. the woman was a registered nurse and phoned my family immediately. that woman stablized my brother enough for transport but we needed to get to the hospital quickly.

like ecks said my dad "could" have caused an accident or something while speeding through the city. but the point of this whole situation is this. when the life of a loved one it at stake there are some rules that can be omitted for the time.

*on topic edit*

let us all remember that at no time did he tell the cop he was a NFL player. he didn't try to slide his way out of the ticket or anything. getting to his mother-in-law was the only thing on his mind.

No, they can't be omitted. You are, however, fully within your right to not give a flying shit about the consequences.

His wife basically said "fuck you" and ran in though, he should have followed but seeing how the cop was acting, he was probably scared of getting shot in the back.

right my dad is gonna stop for red lights and go the speed limit while his son's life is at risk. i feel sorry for anyone that happens to be in your care in the future.

Did you read beyond the first 5 words?

Just an update, the cop resigned today; no word on what he's going to do in the future.

People that stupid should undoubtedly consider euthanasia.

After this ordeal I don't think any sane employer would take this retard in.

Maybe he can get a job as a mall cop and go apeshit attacking some teenager who looks at him funny.

School rent-a-cop, so he can say lines like "I keep getting older, but they stay the same age", and wear mirrored sunglasses while asking the students if they want to "see his gun".

And then gets fired for strip-searching a girl suspected of having Ibuprofen.

And then he'll get a job as a Wal-Mart janitor, mopping floors 8 hours a day. Of course he'll eventually be fired from that too when he forgets to put out a "wet floor" sign because he's such a tard and someone trips and sues Wal-Mart for 8.bajillion dollars.
