i'm extremely depressed right now. my great grandma has been in the hospital on life support for a few weeks now and i went with my family to visit her while we could. so, we were there visiting her, and she started to say a prayer and then when she was done, she died. and i was right there, i saw everything. and that's not even the worst part. when we were walking out, my grandfather collapsed and went into shock and had to be taken to the ER. about 25 minutes later, a nurse came out and said he had suffered a massive heart attack from 99% blockage in his arteries. so, i'm sitting in the waiting room crying because i don't know if he's going to make it. needless to say, my mom and her siblings were freaking out, too. about 3 hours later, the doctor came out and said that my grandfather had made it, but just barely. they had to put stints in his arteries so that his heart could pump blood through his body. he has about 5 years to live before the stints give out and he dies.
i hate this...

i feel your pain. a couple years ago, my grandfather got put in the hospital because cancer started taking over his whole body. i live in florida and everyone in my whole family lives in michigan or in surrounding areas. everyone had gone to see him already except for me. i had gotten a plane ticket as soon as i possibly could to see him. i arrived there that night and due to the cancer, he couldnt see, move, and was taking very deep breathes and barely got out any type of grumble to talk. i was very choked up. i couldnt say a word. as much as i wanted to tell him how well i was doing and that i loved him and to thank him for his support, i just couldnt do it. as the night passed i went to sleep, woke up. he was still living but just barely. you could hear his life slipping with every deep breathe. as soon as the sun came over the horizon that morning, he watched his last sunrise through the window at 718 am. i believe to this day that he waited to see me for the last time. watching a death of a loved one is something that will live with you forever. however, you have to move on and remember the good times.

All my prayers go out to you and your family, this is really making me sad :( I have a grandma who I -love to death- But she is getting old and her time will be soon, and i hate to think about her passing away

people im sure have heard this before, but once your born, you already start to die. death is inevitable and it shouldnt be feared. its part of the life cycle.

Not wanting to start anything, but I think that's sorta trivializing things. Everyone knows we all have to die sometime. That doesn't mean we shouldn't mourn the emptiness that a loved one's passing can leave in our life.

My condolances to all those who have lost loved ones in this thread. I know from experience, that even when you're prepared for a death in the family, it doesn't make it any easier- in fact, sometimes the waiting can be the hardest part.

The loss of a loved one irregardless of the reason is always hard to endure :(
My sympathies to you and your family.
I lost my grandfather a while back, while I didnt see him actually die, the pain he was in when I visited him for the last time unbearable to watch.

I know it doesnt sound like much right now, but try to find a bit of solace in this: Your Grandmother (like most older people) probably held her faith in the Lord in the utmost regard, and her soul is finally free to inherit the kingdom of heaven.

My Grandmother used those words to comfort us when my Grandfather passed. Her strength through her husbands death kept us all going strong.

While I personally am not all that religious, I will say a prayer for your family .

Good luck to you.

I thank everyone for their support. Master, i feel deeply sympathetic for you and i agree with you that you have to try to remember to good times. My original intention obviously wasn't to upset anyone, and i appologize to those that i have upset. All of you are right, i have to try to enjoy the time i have left with my grandpa. even though i'm only 16, seeing my great-grandma die in front of me made me realize my own mortality, as it would for anyone. i'm feeling a little better about things now, i learned today from my grandma (and my great-grandmothers daughter) that she was in a lot of pain on her death bed and that she just wanted to see her family one last time. so, she's in a better place now. thank you everyone

about 20 years ago i lost my grandfather who i loved dearly. the loss took a long time to hit me too. he died the day after xmas. he sat down with each of his 5 children who were at the house individualy talked with them and died the next day. i was old enough to fully understand what death was at the time but i didnt cry until months later. enevitable as death is and though i beleive it shouldnt be feard its still a ping thats hard to deal with at times.

have him live his remaining days happy and fully and my condolencs go to you for your grandmother.

I know it may be hard for lots of people, but a pastor once told me this.

"We shouldn't be sad because he died,
We should be happy because he lived"

I was born Catholic, but Ive been living in the Seventh-day Adventist community. I started to develop their beliefs. One of their unique beliefs has to do with death.

They don't believe that once you die, you go to heaven. instead you become the dust from where you were created, and rise again in the 2nd coming. You can do more research bout the SDA in the internet, if you think you're interested, a pastor convinced me this is true.
