As i was saying, this video (App. 35 Mins long) will be a new RTS/Other? game and even if you dislike RTS' (Real Time Strategys) it will make your jaw drop at this new game. It will change all video gaming as we know it. I recommend you watch the whole thing or skip around, it is insane.

It is worth the load!

Aye, posted this video not too long ago (Topic name: The greatest F*cking game ever). I can't WAIT for this game to come out, it will indeed change video gaming as we know it.

Ehhhh, not with anything it showed in this video it isn't.

Don't get me wrong it looks cool but its just taking things already done, mixing them with good graphics, and making people like yourself foam at the mouth and say untrue things to hype it.

Building cities: Sim City
Building Character: Sea Man, and most any MMORPG
Creating or running a tribe: Black and White
etc. etc. etc.

heh, I never really understood the point of games like this.

Seems so much like this DS game my newphew was playing the other day, it has real dogs and stuff that you play with.

I'm thinking like, whats the point? He has a real dog, why not just play with that? Kinda like video tamagochi.

Gimme something to blow up, attack, or compete against, or some shit like that.

It's not just the game that will change it, it's the type of programming it uses that will change gaming. Procedural verbs look like they will be the next step in designing games to be more realistic than they already are.

This game looks amazing. I looked it up and the estimated release date is Q4 2006, I'll probably pick up a copy just because there seems like there is so much to do.

but your doing this in an endless user built universe. you can go from planet to planet and try to associate with the locals, be accepted or attacked. and from the looks of it the amount of planets could be infinite because you can just keep doing deeper and deeper into space. Thats the aspect that i see making this game monumental. Thats the only part that got me saying "wow"

But.. the game does give you stuff to compete against, attack, and/or blow up. Watch the second half of the video, the city and beyond. Gets attacked by tanks, and he sends in aircraft to counterattack, then pulls out a UFO, flys off to another planet, then Death Star's it into oblivion. If blowing up PLANETS doesn't count as something, I don't know what does.

If you wanna make a race that does nothing but wage war and blow shit up... Do it. o_o-b

nice game. but not close to what spore has to offer, did u watch the WHOLE video lol.

Yes, did you read what the whole TCOS game is about, how it plays, and its mechanics?

Strid, you are missing the revolutionary idea behind procedural code. It is designing the game content as you go given the circumstances. Eg: You create a creature with 9 legs, it writes code for how to make that thing walk realistically. The entire game works off this, its creating the world from scratch as you play in real time. This has never been done before and the games you linked don't even touch on that subject. If that is successful, the days of hard coded pre-designed worlds and game mechanics will disappear.

I see. I wish I could have understood this in the beginning. It looked to me as if it was just taking what is in the game and changing forms, structures, etc. Like in TCOS it has a hard set main world but through players the univerese around it is in constant change depending on what clan does what to what planet. Planets can change looks, support life, or go to being unstable and near the brink of destruction. Just seemed like a spoofier looking Sea-Man mixed with Sim-City clone. Then again I'm no coding junky or anything like that I just know what I saw and how it appears to a player only eye. My appologies

It is kind of that same concept, but taken to the nth degree. The ability to create new content from scratch, and then develop new game mechanics built on that is incredible. I hope they share their technique in the future so it can spread, but that may be just my open-source daydreaming.

I'm really hoping that this game comes out to console but I doubt it :(

If it ends up being PC onry, i'm gonna have to upgrade my video card >.<

Eh, new content from scratch though? It will have to have its limits and have certain things already set as a guide. So it's not really a player "creating" something new within a game more as it is "unlocking" or "making a selection" of something already inside the game. I don't see how it would be possible for a game to code by itself on spot unless they created some kind of new console or supermachine for it.

while it's true the game isn't absolute creation it is pretty close to it. The ability to morph your creature into so many different ways is impressive. Buildings can be custom, UFOs he mentioned could be customed. The only part that has the least creativity seems to be the pacman-esque part in the beginning
