Obama:

I dont even need to post a thompson link. Obama is not the candidate I chose, but who cant agree with him on this matter? Note that I didnt just post this as a GTA reference, but for violent video games as an entirety.

Another thing...

MADD is suing Take Two for featuring drunk driving in GTA4... Yes, we all know, drunk driving has been in MANY previous games... The most prominent in my mind is Redneck Rampage, lol. Hilarious game.

I really like Obama for this. At least Obama blames parents for being irresponsible when it comes to kids with MA class video games. 'bout fucking time really.

Mrs. Clinton is probably on lolThompson's side for the whole violent game thing.

Hopefully Obama's message will finally wake parents up >_>

I'm always happy when a politician recognizes some forms of entertainment are designed for adults and that there's nothing wrong with that.

Email From Jack Thompson to Strauss Zelnick's mother said:
Mrs. Zelnick

Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two Chairman’s Mother

New York, New York Via e-mails to intermediaries

Re: Your Son, Strauss Zelnick

Dear Mrs. Zelnick:

Your son, as you may know (or maybe you don’t know), is Chairman of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc., whose most popular video games are the Grand Theft Auto murder simulator games banned in some countries but sold to children here.

Your son last week was reported to have said the following about Grand Theft Auto IV, due to be released Tuesday, April 29:

"We’ve already received numerous [GTA IV] reviews, and to a one, they are perfect scores. My mom couldn’t write better reviews…"

Taking your son’s thought, I would encourage you either to play this game or have an adroit video gamer play it for you. Some of the latter gamers are on death row, so try to find one out in the civilian population who hasn’t killed someone yet.

What you will see in your son’s game, if this iteration of GTA is anything like its predecessors, is incredible interactive violence aimed at police officers (whom you can shoot in the head and see the blood spray), innocent bystanders (whom you can run over with your car just for the heck of it), and of course the plentiful female prostitutes you can have sex with and then filet with a knife or stomp with your feet in order to get your money back. Experts note that the recent plethora of cop killings is caused in part by your darling son’s entrepreneurial energy. There are three policemen dead in Alabama because of Grand Theft Auto. I was on 60 Minutes about it. I hope Strauss has provided you with a flat screen tv to see the grief of the bereaved families that fills the screen.

The pornography and violence that your son trafficks in is the kind of stuff that most mothers would be ashamed to see their son putting into the hands of other mothers’ children, but, hey, your son Strauss has recently assured the world that he is "a Boy Scout, everybody knows that." I’d love to see the merit badges that Scout Troop handed out. Is there a Ted Bundy merit badge? If so, your loving son deserves one now. It should be red and green, for obvious reasons.

With Passover having just come and gone, it is appropriate to note the following from the Old Testament, Proverbs 22:6:

"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."

Mrs. Zelnick, did you train up your son, Strauss, to make millions of dollars by pushing Mature-rated video games to children? Any kid can go right to little Strauss’ corporate web site and buy GTA IV with no age verification. Strauss is even marketing the new Grand Theft Auto IV on World Wrestling Entertainment tv shows seen by millions of kids. If you trained up Strauss to do this, then shame on you.

But maybe the explanation for your son’s corporate sociopathy is to be found in Old Testament Proverb 29:15:

"The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame."

Maybe you, Mrs. Zelnick, were so taken by your handsome son that you spared the rod and spoiled the child. That would explain why he has brought you, by the way he presently acts, "to shame."

There’s another mother you would do well to talk to. Mrs. Crump in Alabama had a son who was a police officer. He’s now dead because a teenaged boy unwittingly trained himself to kill him on Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. She has a grief she carries every day that only a mother can know. There are other such mothers in the heartland of America whose inhabitants your son simply sees as commercial targets.

Your son, this very moment, is doing everything he possibly can to sell as many copies of GTA IV to teen boys in the United States, a country in which your son claims you raised him to be "a Boy Scout." More like the Hitler Youth, I would say.

Happy Mother’s day, Mrs. Zelnick, which this year is May 11, two weeks after your son unleashes porn and violence upon other mothers’ boys. I’m sure you’re very proud.

Sincerely, Jack Thompson

Seriously? Isn't this harassment?

Yea, that's harrassment. lol if she sues for pain and suffering due to the stress that he has placed upon her in which she takes the blame and feels it for her sons actions. Which, in my opinion, are perfectly fine. The game is MA. That doesn't mean to buy it for your children under 18. If my kid wants to see a movie and it's rated MA, think I'll say "Sure, bud. Let's put on this movie and watch him go balls deep on that bitch." Well, yes I would. But I'm sick; and would only do it if he's past the age of 12. But still; parents fault not the makers.

yes, harassment. I know its been said before, but having Jack Thompson target ONLY games is one of his big mistakes that he doesnt ditch. He makes little to no sense now, but if he added the entire library of violent media to his argument, it would be a little more understandable. Books, games, movies and etc. are a huge influence on children, and much like everyone (except thompson) knows, the children have access to these things mostly because of parents.

But you cant keep your child from playing the game via his friend(s). Well, you can, but then saying who a kid can and cant be friends with is when parenting goes a little overboard. I remember when I was in HS, my dad tried to keep me from seeing a couple of my friends, specifically a girl. For some reason (I will assume my older brother) he had it in his head that she was a crack addict, which I thought to be hilariously funny. Either way, he tried.

Back on topic... Games DO influence kids/people, and without proper teaching, violence can occur.

Me, I plan to be a good parent if I am one. I am going to give spankings and shit. Putting children in time out is ridiculous, they need to get their butts hurt. I did when I was a kid, and I learned from it lol.

Action --> Reaction. Law of the world in my opinion.

Action: Parent buys child violent video game.
--->
Reaction: Child becomes more and more violent.
--->
Cause: The action of buying the video game for the child BY the Parent.
--->
Effect: The reaction above.

I can't think of any other way to spell this out.

Jack Thompson... AWAAAAAAYYYY!!!!

Kudos to Obama for having the right stance on the adult video game issue. It's not enough to swing my vote, but kudos all the same.

"I sent it to Strauss Zelnick's attorney. I would never send it to his mother," Mr. Thompson told me.

Wow, what a psychopath.

I stopped reading as soon as I saw the word "goo-gobs" used in all sincerity.

I really dont see anything wrong with people using weird words. Everyone has their own dialect to a certain extent. Just like people on the internet love to use the terms "nub, noob, newb, etc." or anything else. Honestly, so what if someone says goo-gobs... Professional or not.

wow...she should so sue him..

when i was picking up my copy of the game i noticed there was a kid there in line maybe 11 or 12 years old with his grandmother there

i really didn't think he should have been buying this game, i didn't even think he shoulda been up that late on that night, shit my parents didn't let me stay up past 11 at that age

kids really shouldn't be playing games like gta, its as simple as that.

I think people need to stop blaming games for violent behavior, regardless of age. Now maybe I just have my head screwed on more tight than most people, idk, but i've been playing violent games since I was in 5th grade so about 11 years old. And by violent I mean games like Socom, Rainbow Six, GTA3 when it came out etc. But I dont go around stealing shit or shooting people. I've never gotten in trouble at school, broken a law blah blah but I still play the worst of worst games (worst according to the media). The game has nothing to do with it, its the fact that my parents taught me doing shit like stealing/killing isnt okay. And if you arent a good enough parent to teach your kid shit like that isnt okay, or you cant recognize your child isn't bright enough to know video game =/= real life, then you probably shouldn't be a parent in the first place. And if you know your kid can't handle that then you shouldn't let them play it.

If some kids whacko enough to bring a gun to school and shoot people, it wasn't GTA that did it, hes probably got some fucked up, deep rooted problems that are the cause.

I agree with Raidrx.

I also agree.

I really wouldn't say kid's shouldn't be playing games like GTA. Simply put, oversensitizing children to violence, sex, drugs, and alcohol can be just as destructive to a psyche as desensitizing. I've seen it with my cousins, who were sheltered from everything from Mortal Kombat to Professional Wrestling. They're scum now. Where as me and my siblings were given the opportunity to experience those things, while being taught whats right and wrong/fantasy and reality. And we've turned out pretty ordinary. Thats with me growing up on Married With Children and Mortal Kombat at 8. And today with my younger siblings, it's Family Guy and Call of Duty.

Forbidden Fruit and all that jazz. Being told to stay away from it just makes them want to do it even more.

As long as the parents do their job, it really shouldn't matter if they're a 12 year old kid playing an MA game.

Edit: By right of "murder simulator," perhaps the "driving simulator" aspect of the game has taught me how to readjust my real car out of a spin after trying to make a turn going 120 in the rain. I'll go try this right now, and if I fail, Jack Thompson owes me a new car.

i agree with this, but there has to be a medium where kids know that its just a game and that the things you do in that game are not acceptable in today's society. how many of these kid's parents who bought them the game are really sitting down with their kids and talking to them about things like this? if these kids are anything like i was when i was their age they prolly begged and screamed and cried until their parents got fed up and just gave in.

i agree that the parents should be at fault and not the video games, that to me is a scapegoat, a scapegoat that jack just loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees to lean on
